Triston Casas clobbered a three-run homer, leading the Red Sox to a 6-5 victory over the Twins in Wednesday’s Grapefruit League nightcap.
Casas took Twins starter Joe Ryan deep in the opening frame for his first round-tripper of the spring. The 25-year-old former top prospect was derailed last season by a rib injury, which cost him nearly four months. The talent is undeniable and it’s not a stretch to forecast a leap into the 30-homer range, if he stays mostly healthy. The lingering durability concerns push him a bit lower into the top 10-12 range at first base from a fantasy standpoint in drafts this spring.

Jordan Beck went 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of stolen bases on Thursday night, propelling the Rockies to a 7-4 victory over the Rangers in their Cactus League tilt.
Beck drew a walk to leadoff the second inning, then swiped second base and scored on Sam Hilliard’s two-run blast. He then singled in the third inning and again thieved second base before being stranded there. The 23-year-old outfielder then swatted a 420-foot (106.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Dane Dunning in the fifth inning that made it a 5-2 ballgame. With the two-hit attack, Beck is now hitting .235 (12-for-51) with three homers, seven RBI and six stolen bases on the spring.

Germán Márquez struggled in Thursday night’s victory over the Rangers, allowing three runs on six hits over his 4 2/3 innings.
Márquez walked one and struck out three in the ballgame. The big blow against him came in the opening inning on a two-out, two-run blast by Joc Pederson. The 30-year-old hurler settled in afterwards and kept the Rangers off the board until Corey Seager got him for a solo shot with two outs in the fifth. He now holds a 5.73 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over 11 innings through his first four Cactus League starts.
  • TEX Left Fielder #4
Joc Pederson slugged his fourth home run of the spring on Thursday night but it wasn’t enough for the Rangers to overcome the Rockies.
Pederson tagged Rockies’ right-hander German Marquez for a two-run blast in the opening inning that gave the Rangers an early 2-0 edge. The 32-year-old slugger also lined out to left field and drew a walk in the contest, finishing the evening 1-for-2. He’s now hitting .250 (8-for-32) with four homers and 12 RBI in his first spring with the Rangers.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #80
Kumar Rocker turned in a solid performance in Thursday night’s start against the Rockies, striking out eight batters over 4 2/3 innings of two-run baseball.
The 25-year-old right-hander allowed six hits on the night while allowing one base on balls. While there was a parade of baserunners against him, the only damage came in the second inning on a two-run blast by Sam Hilliard. Rocker had looked like he would secure a spot in the club’s Opening Day rotation, but that picture is a bit cloudier after they brought in Patrick Corbin earlier in the week. Through four Cactus League starts, the 25-year-old right-hander holds an uninspiring 13.00 ERA, 2.33 WHIP and a 12/6 K/BB ratio across nine innings.
  • NYY Center Fielder #13
Jazz Chisholm Jr. belted his third home run of the spring and drove in five runs on Thursday night, propelling the Yankees to a 9-7 victory over the Orioles.
The dynamic 27-year-old infielder got the Yankees on the board in the opening inning with a two-run double off of right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. He then demolished a three-run homer in the third that extended the Bombers’ lead to 5-1. He’s hitting just .214 (9-for-42) in Grapefruit League action this spring, though that has come with three homers, 11 RBI and a stolen base.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #98
Will Warren was victimized by the long ball in Thursday’s spring tune-up against the Orioles, giving up four runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Warren also issued two free passes while striking out three opposing hitters. All of the damage done against him came via the home run, with Ryan O’Hearn crushing a solo shot in the opening inning and Adley Rutschman blasting a long three-run homer in the third. If Warren was going to usurp the fifth starter’s spot from Carlos Carrasco to begin the season, he probably needed better results in this outing. For the spring, he holds a 4.19 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a strong 19/5 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings. He does have minor league options remaining though, which could end up costing him in that competition.
  • BAL Catcher #35
Adley Rutschman went 1-for-3 and swatted a three-run homer on Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Orioles past the Yankees.
Rutschman victimized Yankees’ right-hander Will Warren for his three-run blast in the third inning, pulling the O’s to within a run at 5-4. That would be as close as they would get. The 27-year-old backstop is having a terrific spring at the plate, hitting .361 (13-for-36) with three long balls and eight RBI. He’s being selected as the second catcher off the board on average in fantasy drafts this spring, behind only William Contreras.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #19
Tomoyuki Sugano was hit hard in Thursday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up five runs on six hits across his 4 2/3 frames.
The 35-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out four batters on the evening. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was his nemesis in this one, as the Yankees’ infielder smacked a two-run double in the opening inning and added a three-run blast in the third to account for all of the damage. Even with this rough outing though, Sugano has been awfully impressive in his first spring stateside, registering a 3.00 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP with 15 strikeouts across 15 innings.

Luis Torrens has a monster day at the dish in Thursday’s 10-3 rout of the Nationals, going 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI.
Torrens led off the second inning with a single and scored the Mets’ first run on a two-run knock off the bat of Luisangel Acuna. He then smacked an RBI triple off of Shinnosuke Ogasawara in the third inning and raced home on a run-scoring single by Jose Siri. Torrens also added a two-run single in the fourth and scored on Siri’s RBI double. With his three-hit attack, the 28-year-old backstop is now hitting .275 (11-for-40) with a homer and seven RBI in Grapefruit League play.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #34
Kodai Senga looked sharp in Thursday’s victory over the Nationals, allowing only an unearned run on two walks in his 3 2/3 innings of work.
Senga racked up six strikeouts on the evening and didn’t allow a single hit against the Nationals. The only blemish on his day came in the opening inning as CJ Abrams led off with a walk, stole second base and wound up scoring on a throwing error by catcher Luis Torrens. The 32-year-old right-hander has quietly had a terrific spring for the Mets, posting a 2.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 9/2 K/BB ratio over nine innings.
