Justin Slaten fired a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Rays to collect his second save of the season.

It was Slaten’s first save since getting the call back on Opening Day against the Rangers. The 27-year-old righty was summoned by Red Sox manager Alex Cora to protect a one-run advantage with Aroldis Chapman unavailable after pitching three of the last four nights. He got Junior Caminero to fly out before striking out Christopher Morel and José Caballero to end it. He’ll continue to vulture the occasional save chance for Boston whenever Chapman needs a breather.

Dodgers activated RHP Jack Dreyer from the 15-day injured list.

Dreyer had been sidelined since May 17 due to discomfort in his left shoulder. He has been exceptional out of the club’s bullpen this season, posting a 2.08 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 24/6 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings. Paul Gervase was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Ryan O'Hearn

PIT Right Fielder #29

Pirates activated 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn from the 10-day injured list.

On the day that Konnor Griffin (forearm) heads to the injured list, the Pirates offense gets reinforcements with O’Hearn returning from his stay there. O’Hearn had been shelved since May 16 due to a right quad strain. He returns to a solid .289/.368/.459 slash line with seven homers and 29 RBI over his first 182 plate appearances with the Bucs.

Konnor Griffin

Pirates placed SS Konnor Griffin on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor tendon strain.

The Pirates are calling the injury minor and expect Griffin to miss only the minimum amount of time on the injured list. The 20-year-old phenom has hit .270/.327/.402 with four homers, 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases through his first 208 plate appearances with the Pirates. Ryan O’Hearn was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Giants recalled RHP Tristan Beck from Triple-A Sacramento.

Beck rejoins the Giants’ bullpen in place of Ryan Borucki who was designated for assignment on Sunday. The 29-year-old righty has made two appearances with the big league club this season, hurling three scoreless frames with a 0.67 WHIP and a 1/0 K/BB ratio. He’ll function in a middle relief role for manager Tony Vitello.

Giants designated LHP Ryan Borucki for assignment.

The 32-year-old left-hander struggled in 21 appearances with the Giants this season, posting a 4.94 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings. Given the overall lack of quality left-handed bullpen options around the league though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another team take a chance on him on waivers.

Jonah Cox

Giants selected the contract of OF Jonah Cox from Double-A Richmond.

It’s not often that you see players make the jump right from Double-A to the big leagues, but Cox was lighting the world on fire there — slashing .400/.453/.644 with six homers, 35 RBI and 27 stolen bases — so they’ll see if any of that can carry over and help out a struggling Giants’ offense. If he somehow finds himself in an everyday role, his speed makes him an intriguing deep league addition from a fantasy perspective.

Giants optioned OF Will Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento.

Brennan’s stay with the big league club lasted just one game this time around, as he heads back to Triple-A Sacramento for the third time this month. Jonah Cox was promoted from Double-A Richmond in a corresponding move on Sunday to take his place on the Giants’ active roster.

MIA Starting Pitcher #59

Marlins recalled RHP Josh White from Triple-A Jacksonville.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old hurler and is certainly well deserved after two years of dominating batters at the Triple-A level. In 17 appearances at Triple-A Jacksonville this season he holds a minuscule 1.33 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 28/15 K/BB ratio across 27 innings of work. Expect him to be used in a middle relief role initially for the Marlins.

Janson Junk

MIA Starting Pitcher #26

Marlins placed RHP Janson Junk on the 15-day injured list with right shin inflammation.

Junk suffered the injury when he was hit by a comebacker during Monday’s start against the Blue Jays. The Marlins had been hopeful that he would be able to make his scheduled start on Sunday, but Junk did not improve at all throughout the week, so they’ll sit him down for a bit to make sure that it heals properly. John King will start a bullpen game for the Marlins on Sunday.
