Devin Williams was charged with three runs and his first blown save after failing to retire any of the three batters he faced Friday against the Blue Jays.
Brought in with a two-run lead, Williams gave up a single, hit a batter on a 2-2 pitch and then surrendered a two-run double. The Yankees quickly ushered him out at that point, and the runner later came around to score. Williams also gave up three runs last time out. That technically wasn’t a blown save, though it might as well have been. We imagine this outing will earn him a hopefully brief respite from closing duties, with Luke Weaver taking over for now and Fernando Cruz probably second in line. Dropping Williams in fantasy leagues seems like the wrong call, but it’s probably fine to bench him where applicable. Weaver should be picked up everywhere.
