Quinn Priester allowed just one hit over seven innings and struck out a career-high 11 in the Brewers’ 5-0 shutout of the Rockies on Saturday.
Aaron Ashby and DL Hall finished the shutout. Michael Toglia had the lone hit, a clean single between the first and second basemen in the fifth. The Rockies had just five hard-hit balls in all: three from Brenton Doyle and two from Toglia. Priester, who topped his previous high in strikeouts by three, wound up with 20 whiffs, including 16 on the 37 breaking balls he threw. It’s the first time in 26 big-league starts that he’s completed seven innings. He’s gone 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA in his last six outings, putting him at 6-2 with a 2.87 ERA overall. He makes for an intriguing play in mixed leagues next week against the Marlins.
