Diamondbacks optioned RHP Juan Burgos to Triple-A Reno.
Burgos apparently checked out fine from a physical standpoint after being struck by a comebacker during Monday’s extra-inning affair versus the Rangers. The 25-year-old has been shipped out to enable Arizona to bring in a fresh relief arm.

Phillies placed RHP Aaron Nola on the paternity list.
The 32-year-old hurler will be away from the team for a couple of days as he welcomes a new addition to the family. Nolan Hoffman was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move to add a fresh arm to the Phillies’ bullpen.
Pirates' Jones to make season debut vs Twins
James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #23
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Friday that David Peterson has been moved to the team’s bullpen.
Sean Manaea will be given the opportunity to work as a bulk reliever, likely behind an opener, in Peterson’s spot in the rotation beginning on Monday. The last straw for Peterson appears to have been giving up six runs on 11 hits over five innings against the Reds on Tuesday. He holds a miserable 5.57 ERA and 1.67 WHIP across 53 1/3 innings on the season.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #64
Orioles transferred RHP Dean Kremer to the 60-day injured list.
The Orioles needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster to re-sign Albert Suarez on Friday, so Kremer was shifted to the 60-day injured list. He has been shelved since the end of April due to a right quad strain and now he won’t be eligible to return until the end of June at the earliest. There’s still no clear timeline for when he may be ready.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher
Orioles optioned RHP Cameron Weston to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 25-year-old hurler was promoted from Triple-A prior to Thursday’s game. He made his big league debut in that contest, striking out one batter in his scoreless inning of work. Weston should get another opportunity with the O’s before the summer is through.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #49
Orioles re-signed RHP Albert Suárez to a one-year contract.
Once again, the 36-year-old hurler re-signs with the O’s after being designated for assignment. He has pitched well in seven appearances with the club this season, posting a 2.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 10/9 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings. Cameron Weston was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #63
Edwin Uceta (shoulder) suffered another setback in his throwing progression and has been shut down once more.
It’s another discouraging development for the 28-year-old right-hander who is trying to return from a shoulder impingement that has bothered him since the spring. There’s no clear timeline for when he may be able to join the Rays’ bullpen, but it’s going to be a while.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #20
Nick Sogard isn’t in the starting lineup for Boston’s Friday game against the Guardians.
Caleb Durbin will bat ninth as Sogard sits for the first time in the last six games against RHP Slade Cecconi. Sogard is off to a .273/.368/.394 start and figures to keep getting chances so long as Durbin remains ice cold.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #40
White Sox recalled LHP Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Charlotte.
Gilbert was blown up in two appearances with the White Sox this year, but holds a 3.09 ERA in 23 1/3 innings with the Knights, including 21 strikeouts against just five walks. He’ll get another chance to establish himself in the White Sox bullpen pecking order while Jordan Leasure is out.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #49
White Sox placed RHP Jordan Leasure on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain.
Leasure had a 6.27 ERA in 18 2/3 innings for the White Sox this year, struggling again even after a demotion last weekend. He’ll try to get right on the injured list.
  • TB Shortstop #6
Taylor Walls (hamstring) is not in Friday’s lineup for the Rays as they take on the Angels.
It’s his third straight day on the bench since he was scratched with hamstring tightness ahead of Tuesday’s game. Ben Williamson is starting at shortstop against RHP Walbert Ureña.
