Blake Dunn went 2-for-6 and knocked in the winning run in the 11th as the Reds edged the Cardinals 7-6 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Dunn’s game-winner was credited as a fielder’s choice. He got a soft liner past the pitcher, and Spencer Steer, who was on third, was able to score just ahead of Masyn Winn’s throw from shortstop. Still, Dunn did have two singles earlier, and he went 1-for-3 in the matinee. He’s batting .351/.400/.541 in 40 plate appearances, and he seems poised to play regularly in the Reds outfield until he slows down.

CIN Starting Pitcher #61

Chase Petty surrendered four runs in five innings and struck out only one against the Cardinals in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Petty was just the 27th man tonight, so he’s going back to Triple-A on Sunday. Still, he didn’t really help his chances of getting a longer look later. He gave up 10 hard-hit balls, and he generated just three misses on 33 swings. Between his three outings last year and two this season, he has a 10.80 ERA as a major leaguer.

Tony Santillan

CIN Relief Pitcher #64

Tony Santillan gave up two runs in the top of the ninth to take his third blown save Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cardinals.

José Fermín started the ninth with a homer that made it a one-run game. After that came a walk to Victor Scott II, a two-out walk to Alex Burleson and a game-tying single from Jordan Walker. It’s Santillan’s third blown save, and it bodes particularly poorly for him that both Graham Ashcraft (1 2/3 scoreless) and Pierce Johnson (scoreless 10th and 11th innings and a win) did very well tonight. It may be some time before Santillan gets another save chance.

Pierce Johnson

CIN Relief Pitcher #52
Pierce Johnson got a win for pitching perfect 10th and 11th innings against the Cardinals in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

This was after Tony Santillan blew a two-run lead in the ninth, so this seems like a big swing in maybe getting Johnson some additional save chances. Graham Ashcraft also helped himself by retiring five of the six batters he faced between the seventh and eighth tonight.

Kyle Leahy

STL Starting Pitcher #62

Kyle Leahy was tagged for five runs in five innings by the Reds in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Leahy struck out a career-best eight, but the Reds got to him with a three-run homer from Elly De La Cruz and a two-run homer from Nathaniel Lowe, both in the fifth inning. Leahy’s ERA stands at 4.44, and he’s gotten a total of five outs after the fifth inning in his 10 starts this year. Maybe he’ll improve, but it’s also quite possible he’d be more valuable to the Cardinals as a reliever. He’s due to face the Cubs next.

Riley O'Brien

STL Relief Pitcher #61

After working a scoreless 10th, Riley O’Brien took a loss by allowing the automatic runner to score in the 11th against the Reds in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The Cardinals didn’t score either inning, so they got what they deserved. In the bottom of the 11th, P.J. Higgins bunted the automatic runner to third to start the frame. Blake Dunn later hit a soft liner up the middle that Masyn Winn played on a hop and tried to throw out the runner at home but was just a tad late. It goes as O’Brien’s second loss, but he won’t take any blame for it.

Jordan Walker

STL Right Fielder #18

Jordan Walker went 3-for-4 went a three-run homer, a double, four RBI and a walk versus the Reds in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

His third hit was an RBI single that tied the game with two outs in the ninth. It took two games, but it was a little seven-RBI day for Walker. That was a typical month for him last year. In fact, he’s overtaken his 2025 total for RBI, 42 to 41, in a mere 61 fewer games (50 vs. 111). His homer tonight left the bat at 112 mph and was projected at 427 feet.

Josh Jung

TEX 3rd Baseman #6
Josh Jung left Saturday’s game against the Angels with left shoulder soreness.

Jung was replaced by Michael Helman, with Helman taking over at shortstop and Ezequiel Duran moving to third base. Jung will likely undergo imaging on the shoulder, and at the very least, it seems unlikely he’ll be in the lineup for Sunday’s finale against Los Angeles.

Teoscar Hernández

LAD Left Fielder #37

Teoscar Hernández went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, six RBI and a walk Saturday as the Dodgers topped the Brewers 11-3.

This was a tight one until the eighth. The Dodgers scored three that inning and four more in the ninth to turn into a laugher. Hernández’s homer gave the Dodgers a 4-3 lead in the fourth, and he singled in one in the eighth and two in the ninth. It’s the fourth time he’s collected six RBI in a game, though the first time he hasn’t needed two homers to get there. He’s 15-for-37 with three homers and 14 RBI in his last 10 games.

Roki Sasaki

LAD Starting Pitcher #11

Roki Sasaki overcame a rough first to earn his third win Saturday after allowing three runs — two earned — in five innings against the Brewers.

All of the runs came in the first, which was prolonged by Sasaki’s own error. He threw 35 pitches in that inning, but no more than 14 in any of his subsequent four frames. It’s another little step forward for Sasaki, who moved to 3-3 with a 4.93 ERA. We still wouldn’t want him active in mixed leagues, but at least that seems like a realistic possibility now. He’ll get the Phillies next weekend.
