Orioles agreed to terms with RHP Rico Garcia on a one-year contract.
The 31-year-old Garcia, who didn’t pitch in the majors in 2024 and saw action with three teams this year, gets his 2026 deal squared away quickly after a nice run for Baltimore in which he had a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings out of the pen. The Orioles still could put him on waivers later in the offseason if they need his 40-man roster spot. It’s unusual for a pre-arbitration eligible player already under control by a team to sign a new deal in October, so we suspect that this contract has a little extra guarantee in order to make it less likely that he’d be claimed on waivers.

Orioles optioned LHP Nick Raquet to Triple-A Norfolk.
Raquet was only up for a day and didn’t make an appearance in his latest stint with the O’s. He heads back to Norfolk with Trey Gibson recalled to start Wednesday’s game against the Rays.
    Sabathia digs into baseball superstitions
CC Sabathia and Ahmed Fareed weigh in on baseball superstitions, including ones from CC's playing days and a quirky routine he never forgot about one of his former teammates in New York.

Orioles recalled RHP Trey Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk.
Gibson is up and will make the start Wednesday against the Rays. The 24-year-old is one of the best pitching prospects in the system, but he’s been shaky in his limited action with Baltimore while allowing four runs over 6 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Gibson, but he’s more of a long-term play right now.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #47
Royals recalled RHP Mason Black from Triple-A Omaha.
The Royals need a fresh arm in the bullpen, so Black will return to Kansas City to operate as a middle-inning option who can work multiple frames if need be.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #36
Royals designated LHP Bailey Falter for assignment.
This comes a day after Falter was shellacked by the Yankees; giving up seven runs over 2 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and his previous success — mixed though it may be — gives him a decent chance to be claimed or traded. If he’s not, he’ll be able to elect free agency or report to Triple-A Omaha.
  • TOR 1st Baseman #27
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (elbow) is back in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Marlins.
Guerrero Jr. will hit second and play first base. The 27-year-old missed two games while dealing with soreness in his elbow, but he’s good to go for the series finale against the Marlins on Wednesday. Fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief.
  • TEX Center Fielder #32
Evan Carter finished 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as the Rangers bested the Astros 10-7 on Tuesday.
The Rangers exploded for eight runs in the first tonight and then held on to win as the Astros kept threatening. Carter had a two-run triple in the first and added a little insurance with his homer in the sixth. There’s still some hope for him turning into a useful mixed-league outfielder, but it hinges on him establishing himself in the top half of the Rangers’ lineup and the team as a whole producing more offensively. Carter is at .178/.293/.350 to date, but he has eight steals in eight attempts. He’s 27-for-29 stealing bases in 644 plate appearances as a major leaguer.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #22
Jack Leiter allowed four runs through six innings in a victory over the Astros on Tuesday.
Leiter’s mission was to throw strikes after getting eight runs to work with in the bottom of the first, but he did go on to walk three batters anyway. Still, it proved to be a pretty easy victory for the 26-year-old, and he definitely deserved one after going 0-4 in his previous nine starts, including a loss to the Astros on May 15 in which he allowed just one run over seven innings. Leiter still isn’t pitching up to his potential, but since he has a very favorable home park backing him up, he seems worth rostering in mixed leagues. He’s due for another home start Sunday against the Royals.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #67
Jacob Latz picked up his sixth save despite giving up a solo homer while getting four outs Tuesday against the Astros.
Jeremy Peña homered in the ninth, but Latz, who qualified for the save because he entered with a 9-6 lead in the eighth, had a four-run cushion at that point. The homer was just the second Latz has allowed in 25 innings this season. He has a 2.16 ERA, and he’s set to remain the Rangers’ primary closer going forward.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #54
Jason Alexander gave up nine runs in six innings to take a loss in Arlington on Tuesday.
The Rangers were angry that day, my friends. After getting no-hit on Monday, the club responded with eight runs in the first inning Tuesday. Alexander survived the thrashing and allowed just one run over the following five innings, but this still leaves him with a 9.33 ERA after two starts and two relief appearances. The Astros have Monday off, so Alexander will probably head to the pen for a spell.
  • HOU Designated Hitter #44
Yordan Alvarez homered twice to drive in four runs against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Alvarez hit one 449 feet off Jack Leiter and another 422 feet versus Jalen Beeks. He has 18 homers this year and 50 points of OPS on anyone else in the league (1.045 to Ben Rice’s .993).
