Diamondbacks signed RHP Junior Fernandez to a minor league contract.
The 28-year-old hurler split his 2025 season between the Royals’ and Mets’ organizations where he compiled a 4.40 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 57/27 K/BB ratio over 43 innings at the Triple-A level. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the Diamondbacks.

Yankees activated SS Anthony Volpe from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
José Caballero has been playing well of late, though Statcast thinks he’s been very lucky with his solid .321 wOBA and poor .269 xwOBA. Meanwhile, Volpe has been hitting the ball hard — nine times in four Triple-A games — with middling results on his rehab assignment. That’s just a bad combination for Volpe, and the Yankees are obviously putting more weight on the actual numbers than the expected ones. Volpe should be the better player going forward, and the Yankees probably will give him another chance, perhaps as soon as a couple of weeks from now.
Twins rise to occasion after Ryan's early exit
Joe Ryan's first-inning departure put pressure on the Twins' pitching, but the rest of the staff came through against the Blue Jays.

The Braves are planning to activate Raisel Iglesias prior to Tuesday’s game.
It’s possible the Braves could have Iglesias set up for Robert Suarez in his first appearance or two back from shoulder inflammation, but Iglesias figures to reclaim his job, even if Suarez has been outstanding this season.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher
Cubs claimed LHP Luis Peralta off waivers from the Cardinals; optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.
The Cardinals had just claimed him from the Rockies six days ago. Peralta, 25, has a 6.03 ERA in 31 1/3 innings major league innings, all with Colorado. He’s opened this year by walking 13 and giving up 14 runs in 7 1/3 innings in Triple-A.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #48
The Astros will have Steven Okert open against the Dodgers on Monday.
Ryan Weiss could serve as a bulk guy, though the Astros might also add a pitcher before the game. Okert has a 4.50 ERA in 16 relief appearances this season.
  • MIA Catcher #50
The Marlins will send down Agustín Ramírez and bring up fellow catcher Joe Mack prior to Monday’s game.
Doing this but sticking with Chris Paddack is a choice. Ramírez, though, isn’t doing enough offensively to justify putting up with his defense, even if he has shown some improvement there this year. Mack is a weaker bet than Ramírez on offense, but he’s an excellent defensive catcher who takes walks and hits the occasional homer. He’s batting .244/.388/.378 in Triple-A. Liam Hicks and Mack figure to split time behind the plate, with Hicks also serving as a DH. Mack won’t get Ramírez’s DH at-bats, so that could open some playing time for Christopher Morel.
  • HOU Right Fielder #11
Cam Smith went 3-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th as the Astros beat the Red Sox 3-1 on Sunday.
The Astros nearly botched a golden opportunity after loading the bases with none out in the 10th, with Jose Altuve hitting into an unusual 6-2-5 double play. Smith, however, then plated two with a two-out liner off the Green Monster. It gave him his second three-hit game of the year. He’s hitting .229/.316/.381 through 137 plate appearances.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #58
Cody Bolton pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday in his spot start against the Red Sox.
AJ Blubaugh followed him and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run. That might open the door for him to start next time through the rotation. Or Bolton could get the call again. The Astros have Thursday off, so depending on how they want to play it, they won’t need a fifth starter again until May 12.
  • BOS Left Fielder #16
Jarren Duran went 2-for-5 and homered for Boston’s only run against the Astros on Sunday.
Duran also homered Friday, so he finishes the series against Houston having driven in four of the Red Sox’s seven runs. He had just one homer in 26 games entering the weekend.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #52
Bryan Abreu pitched scoreless ninth and 10th innings for a win Sunday against the Red Sox.
Abreu entered the day with a 12.54 ERA, and his velocity in this one was about as bad as it’s been this season; he averaged 93.5 mph with this fastball, 1.6 mph off his season average and 3.8 mph less than his 2025 average. Still, he was more than a match for the punchless Red Sox. The one hit he gave up was an infield single that was originally ruled a double-error on Abreu; he failed to pick up Willson Contreras’s dribbler on the first try and then threw the ball past the first baseman to allow Contreras to take second. No matter, though, since Roman Anthony had a horrendous at-bat afterwards. The Astros still shouldn’t have much faith at all in Abreu. He only pitched in the tight situation today because everyone else was tired.
  • CHC 1st Baseman #29
Michael Busch went 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead the Cubs to an 8-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Busch had a big day at the plate on Sunday, starting with a double and a run scored in the second inning. After drawing a walk in the third, he drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple in the fifth. Busch would drive in a fourth run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The 28-year-old first baseman is hitting .218/.317/.339 with two homers, 15 runs scored, and 17 RBI across 145 plate appearances.
