Joe Musgrove struck out three and allowed one run over two innings on Wednesday against Great Britain.
Musgrove returned to game action in a big-league setting for the first time since October 2, 2024. The 33-year-old veteran averaged a robust 94 mph on his four-seam fastball and his stuff looked back to pre-Tommy John surgery levels as he prepares to open the season in San Diego’s rotation. There are very few questions from a performance standpoint as Musgrove holds a career 3.73 ERA and 23.9 percent strikeout rate in 1,056 innings since 2016. He’s a decent late-round rotation stabilizer in fantasy drafts this spring.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said a live BP is “getting close” for Zach Wheeler (shoulder) in his ramp-up.
MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki believes an April return is in play for Wheeler, and adds that it wouldn’t be surprising if he pitched in a game before the end of camp. All reports out of Spring Training have been optimistic for Wheeler so far, making him a reasonable gamble at ADP.
Ohtani, Judge shining in WBC amid peak of careers
Dan Le Batard reflects on the days of United States-Japan exhibition games before debating Shohei Ohtani vs. Aaron Judge and the World Baseball Classic's place among international competitions.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman #11
MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reports “the plan” is for Jorge Polanco to play first base “more often than not.”
For those of you hoping Polanco would slide right into first base eligibility, it’s good news. Polanco seems like a good bet to hit in the middle of the Mets order and, if he hits, will have plenty of RBI chances behind Francisco Lindor, Bo Bichette, and Juan Soto.

Cristopher Sánchez will start the Dominican Republic’s World Baseball Classic quarterfinal game against Korea on Friday.
Sánchez should receive plenty of help from the Dominican Republic’s loaded lineup, which scored a tournament-leading 41 runs through four games in pool play. The 29-year-old fantasy ace allowed three runs (two earned) over 1 1/3 innings last Friday against Nicaragua.
  • NYM Right Fielder #22
Juan Soto went 2-for-4 and hit the first of the Dominican Republic’s four homers in Wednesday’s 7-5 defeat of Venezuela.
The win means the D.R. will avoid a matchup against Japan and face Korea in the quarterfinals. Ketel Marte, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. also homered tonight, and Austin Wells reaches three times. The game got interesting in the ninth, when Abner Uribe, working with a 7-3 lead, walked all three batters he faced, and Elvis Alvarado committed an ugly error on a comebacker after taking over on the mound. However, Salvador Perez grounded into a double play to end the game.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #22
Sandy Alcantara yielded three runs and five hits in three innings Wednesday against Venezuela.
Alcantara gave up two hits and a walk in the first, producing one run, and three hits and a walk in the third, plating two. His stuff was fine tonight, and he wound up as the winning pitcher after leaving with a 4-3 lead. Still, there have been few signs of dominance from the former Cy Young winner thus far.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #57
Eduardo Rodriguez gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
Rodriguez surrendered homers to Juan Soto and Diamondbacks teammate Ketel Marte, but he struck out five against the best lineup baseball has to offer. Rodriguez averaged 93.5 mph tonight. He was at 93.1 in his first spring start, so both marks are clearly better than the 92 mph that’s been his norm in recent years. His stock is trending up at least a little.
  • KC 3rd Baseman #11
Maikel Garcia finished 4-for-4 with a double, a walk and two steals against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The rest of the Venezuelan lineup combined for three hits in the 7-5 loss, but Garcia excelled. His softest hit came in at 97 mph, with the other three leaving his bat at 104-108 mph. Garcia finishes pool play 6-for-16 with three steals in three tries.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #55
Ranger Suárez will start for Venezuela in Saturday’s World Baseball Classic quarterfinal matchup against Japan.
Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto will toe the rubber for Japan as the defending WBC champions host Venezuela at loanDepot park in Miami. It’s a challenging assignment for Suárez having to face a loaded Japan lineup that is headlined by generational talent Shohei Ohtani. The winner of Saturday’s contest will face whoever emerges from a highly-anticipated matchup between Puerto Rico and Italy in the semifinals.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb will start for Team USA in Friday’s World Baseball Classic quarterfinal showdown against Canada.
It’ll be Michael Soroka drawing the starting assignment for Canada after they advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in tournament history. Webb, who will be making his final WBC appearance on Friday, struck out six over four innings of one-run ball last week against Brazil.
  • KC 1st Baseman #9
Vinnie Pasquantino contributed three solo homers Wednesday as Italy defeated Mexico 9-1 to win Pool B.
It’s the first three-homer game in WBC history. Italy’s win means Team USA advances as well and will face Canada in the quarterfinals. Italy will take on Puerto Rico. Jon Berti also homered for Italy, which went undefeated in pool play. Pasquantino didn’t get all of the way into any of his three homers, which checked in at 342, 349 and 337 feet. For the Royals last season, the shortest of his 32 homers was hit 358 feet. He’ll have a chance to hit a few homers in that range this year with Kauffman Stadium bringing the right field corner in from 353 to 344 feet.
