Cubs optioned OF Justin Dean, LHP Luke Little and LHP Ryan Rolison to Triple-A Iowa; reassigned RHP Vince Velasquez, C Ariel Armas, C Casey Opitz, and OF Brett Bateman to minor league camp.
Dean was claimed off waivers twice this offseason after playing a bench role for the Dodgers in the World Series. He’ll provide bench help if called upon.

Marlins acquired RHP Logan Whitaker from the Twins for RHP Garrett Acton.
The Marlins had designated Acton for assignment earlier in the week, so they were willing to flip him for anything that they could get. Whitaker, 25, was a 19th round selection by the Twins from the 2024 draft class. He posted a terrific 2.11 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 33/10 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita during the 2025 campaign. It’s not crazy to think that he could debut out of the Marlins’ bullpen at some point during the 2026 season.
Hyped prospect Griffin will make his MLB debut
James Schiano reacts to the announcement that the Pirates' No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin will make his big league debut at Pittsburgh's home opener and analyzes his 'massive' upside.

Twins acquired RHP Garrett Acton from the Marlins for RHP Logan Whitaker.
The 27-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment by the Fish on Sunday after they acquired Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays. Acton has made just one appearance in the big leagues since the 2023 season, throwing one scoreless inning for the Rays in 2025. He’ll add extra bullpen depth for the Twins.
  • SF Catcher #6
Daniel Susac will make his first major league start behind the plate on Thursday evening against the Mets.
The 24-year-old Rule 5 pick is functioning as the team’s primary backup behind Patrick Bailey to start the season. He has appeared in one game already as a defensive replacement but has yet to have a plate appearance. He’ll bat eighth against Mets’ left-hander David Peterson on Thursday evening in San Francisco.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #46
Giants recalled RHP Blake Tidwell from Triple-A Sacramento.
Tidwell, 24, was knocked around during Cactus League play, registering a 9.45 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings of work. He’ll function in a middle relief role for the Giants.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #70
Giants placed RHP José Buttó on the 15-day injured list with right forearm fatigue.
No word yet on the severity of the issue or on how much time the Giants expect the right-hander to miss. Blake Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move and will replace Buttó in the Giants’ bullpen.
  • COL Shortstop #8
Rockies optioned INF/OF Ryan Ritter to Triple-A Albuquerque.
No word yet on a corresponding move from the Rockies, though Mickey Moniak (finger) is eligible to come off of the injured list on Friday and could be activated for the team’s home opener. Ritter went 1-for-7 (.143) with a run scored during his limited action with the Rockies.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #56
Rockies recalled RHP Valente Bellozo from Triple-A Albuquerque.
He’ll take the roster spot of the injured Jose Quintana (hamstring). What’s still unclear is whether the 26-year-old hurler will take Quintana’s spot in the Rockies’ starting rotation or if he’ll work as a long man out of the bullpen. Either way, he’s unlikely to carve out any mixed league fantasy value and should be ignored.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #62
Rockies placed LHP Jose Quintana on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 30, with a right hamstring strain.
The 37-year-old southpaw suffered the injury during his season debut against the Marlins on Sunday. Valente Bellozo was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. It’s unclear if Bellozo will assume his spot in the rotation or if perhaps he’ll work as a long man in the bullpen while Chase Dollander slides into the rotation.
  • AZ Shortstop #11
Jose Fernandez is not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s showdown against the Braves.
The 22-year-old has made a major impact in his first two starts for the Diamondbacks but he’ll take a seat in this one with Carlos Santana starting at first base and Corbin Carroll functioning as the club’s designated hitter. Jorge Barrosa will draw a rare start in right field and bat ninth against Reynaldo Lopez and the Braves on Thursday evening.
  • PIT Center Fielder #25
Pirates optioned OF Billy Cook to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Pirates needed to clear a spot on their active roster for the arrival of Konnor Griffin on Friday and unfortunately Cook was the odd man out this time around. The 27-year-old appeared in three games and scored a run during his stay with the Pirates, though he didn’t get a plate appearance. He’ll continue to function as extra outfield depth at the Triple-A level.
