Abrams was away from the team Saturday due to a death in his family. Nasim Nuñez will get the start at second base after filling in at short for that contest, and Luis Garcia begins Sunday’s contest on the bench.

Anytime you see prospects scratched around the deadline — aka Hug Watch 2026 — you have to wonder what’s going on. Hope is considered one of the best outfield prospects in baseball, and George is a 2023 first-round pick that offers some upside with the bat as well. The Dodgers are expected to make a blockbuster move before the deadline, and Hope is certainly the type of prospect who could headline a deal for one of those better players, with George more of a secondary — but valuable — piece.

That series starts begins Monday and goes through Thursday. Harrison pitched Thursday in a strong rehab start for High-A Wisconsin, so a return Wednesday seems the most likely landing spot for the 24-year-old. Harrison had scuffled in his previous few outings before his forearm injury, but his ability to miss bats makes him certainly worth consideration for the remaining two months.

Rodriguez will be out of action for at least a week and a half, but an elbow injury often leads to longer stints away from the team. The 24-year-old will be replaced by Nate Furman on the active roster.

Furman will have a chance to make his MLB debut after spending four seasons in the minors. The 25-year-old has forged a .770 OPS with seven homers and 18 stolen bases in Sacramento prior to the promotion. It seems likely that Furman will just be a bench bat while he’s with the team as the replacement for Jesús Rodriguez, with Rodriguez hitting the shelf in a corresponding move due to elbow bursitis.

Springer has hit in seven straight games, and he’s at .303 with four homers, 15 RBI and just eight strikeouts in 17 games since coming off the injured list last month. With the way he’s bounced back, he should net the Jays a significant prospect if, as a 10-and-five player, he’s willing to accept a trade.
