Max Fried blanked Boston for eight innings, striking out nine, in the Yankees’ 4-1 victory on Wednesday.

Brent Headrick spoiled what would have been the Yankees’ second straight shutout in the series by giving up an RBI single to Jarren Duran in the ninth. Fried, who has yet to get the chance to complete a game for the Yankees, allowed just three hits and walked two in the 100-pitch outing. He topped his previous season high in strikeouts by three. Fried is 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA through six starts. He’ll take on the Rangers on Monday.

Ranger Suarez

BOS Starting Pitcher #55

Ranger Suarez failed to make it out of the fifth Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Suarez had good velocity and decent command tonight, but Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer in the first and Giancarlo Stanton doubled twice off him. That he was lifted in the fifth after just 71 pitches was because he was due to face Stanton for a third time, and manager Alex Cora just didn’t think that was a very good idea. Suarez dropped to 1-2 with a 4.00 ERA. He’ll make starts in Toronto and at home against the Astros next week.

Amed Rosario

NYY 3rd Baseman #14

Amed Rosario had a three-run homer and a sac fly before being pulled for a pinch-hitter Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Rosario got to face Ranger Suarez twice, but as soon as a righty came in, he was replaced by Ben Rice. It hurts Rosario’s case for more playing time that he’s just not very valuable defensively. He has an .880 OPS while mostly playing versus lefties, but he’s been lifted midgame in seven of his 14 starts to date.

Jazz Chisholm Jr.

NYY 2nd Baseman #13

Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday to drop his average to .173.

After going hitless against Ranger Suarez, Chisholm is just 2-for-24 with no extra-base hits and nine strikeouts versus lefties this season. He’ll surely bounce back, but with the way he’s looked so far, he might deserve to lose some starts against southpaws after Anthony Volpe returns and José Caballero turns into a utilityman.

Jarren Duran

BOS Left Fielder #16

Jarren Duran went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and knocked in the Red Sox’s lone run Wednesday against the Yankees.

Both doubles came off Max Fried, as Duran was starting against a tough lefty tonight after sitting against a righty on Tuesday. That’s how broken the Red Sox are right now. Duran is batting just .194/.266/.306, but he’s first on the Red Sox in runs scored and tied for third in RBI while being tied for sixth in plate appearances. He needs to play.

JR Ritchie

ATL Starting Pitcher

Baseball America’s Geoff Pontes reports the Braves are calling up pitching prospect JR Ritchie to start Thursday’s game against the Nationals.

Ritchie gets the call after Didier Fuentes and Martín Pérez were both needed during Wednesday’s win over the Nationals. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect has posted a sparkling 0.99 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 28/13 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings over five starts for Triple-A Gwinnett this season. There’s some streaming appeal for fantasy purposes, but this figures to be a one-and-done situation for Ritchie.

Francisco Lindor

NYM Shortstop #12

Francisco Lindor was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Twins with left calf tightness.

Not great. Lindor clearly wasn’t moving at full speed and appeared to be in obvious discomfort while scoring on Francisco Alvarez’s RBI double in the fourth inning. The 32-year-old shortstop was replaced by Brett Baty immediately afterwards. He finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. He’ll presumably undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. There should be a definitive update on his status prior to Thursday’s series finale.

José Berríos

TOR Starting Pitcher #17

José Berríos (elbow) fired four shutout innings on Wednesday in a minor league rehab start for Low-A Dunedin.

Berríos reportedly averaged 93.5 mph on his fastball and maxed out at 94.6 during the 55-pitch outing. He tallied five strikeouts and scattered three hits over four strong frames. The 31-year-old veteran is working his way back from a stress fracture in his elbow and figures to make it back to Toronto’s rotation in early May.

Francisco Lindor

NYM Shortstop #12

Francisco Lindor made an early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Twins.

Things continue to go from bad to worse for the free-falling Mets. Lindor was replaced at shortstop by Brett Baty in the top of the fifth inning after going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. He singled and scored a run in the fourth inning before leaving the contest. He appeared to be in some apparent discomfort while rounding third base to score. An update on his status should be coming shortly.

Cal Raleigh

SEA Catcher #29

Cal Raleigh finished 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and a steal Wednesday in the Mariners’ 5-4 win over the Athletics.

Raleigh homered off Aaron Civale in the fifth. He also had one of the four Mariners’ singles off Joel Kuhnel in the bottom of the ninth and scored the winning run when Josh Naylor walked it off. Raleigh has homered in three straight games, and his five hits the last two days has raised his average to .198.
