Soto strained his calf on April 3rd and was expected to only be out for three weeks. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza hinted that the team would get “creative” with Soto’s rehab, which might mean that they simulate at-bats for him and don’t send him out on a rehab assignment. It’s starting to look like a potential lost season for one of the most explosive young talents in the game, which is frustrating for everyone.

Martin last appeared in the big leagues during the 2022 campaign when he got into 13 games for the Orioles. The 31-year-old is merely emergency organizational infield depth at this stage of his career.

Woodford hits the free agent pool after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal from Milwaukee’s roster mix. The 29-year-old journeyman posted an underwhelming 6.94 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 20/7 K/BB ratio across 23 1/3 innings during his time with the Brewers. He should be able to latch on somewhere else as emergency relief depth.

He has a real chance to push Matt McLain for the everyday role at second base once Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) is back from the injured list later this month.
