Austin Riley went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in a 9-0 win over the Phillies on Friday.

Riley has finally begun to get going. This was his first multi-homer game since May 4th of last year and he didn’t have a single long ball on his ledger until the Braves’ most recent game this past Wednesday. His quality of contact had been trending up over the last week or so though and suddenly, he’s on a power surge. Here’s to hoping he’s emerged from the two-year funk he’s been trapped in.

Jackson Chourio is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

It appears to just be a day of maintenance for Chourio, and it’ll be his first day off since the start of June. The 22-year-old gets a break with Jake Bauers earning a nod in left field for Saturday’s contest.

    Swanson red-hot in 'unfathomable' turnaround

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the team is “hopeful” Shohei Ohtani (biceps) will return to the lineup against the Padres on Sunday.

Roberts said that Ohani is feeling “considerably better” after dealing with biceps discomfort that will keep him out of Saturday’s game against San Diego. There’s even a chance Ohtani could be available off the bench, but Roberts said he would need to see how the rest of the day goes. Even if he doesn’t return to the lineup this weekend, it does appear that this is mostly precautionary. It still remains to be seen if he’ll make another start as a pitcher before the All-Star break, however.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Evan Phillips (elbow) will come off the 60-day injured list before Sunday’s game against the Padres.

Phillips has missed all of 2026 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old will likely be eased into work after missing the first three months of the campaign, but should be a high-leverage option in the second half of 2026. Just keep in mind that save chances won’t be guaranteed.

Cubs designated RHP Bryse Wilson for assignment.

The Cubs need room on the active and 40-man roster, so Wilson is out to clear space for Jake Woodford. Wilson will hit the waiver wire, and teams could show interest in the 28-year-old as a potential multi-inning relief option.

Cubs signed RHP Jake Woodford to a one-year contract.

Woodford opted out of his deal with the Brewers earlier in the month, and the 29-year-old finds an MLB deal not long after. He’ll get a chance to help the Cubs’ pitching staff as a potential multi-inning bullpen option in the middle frames.

Rockies placed RHP Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Halvorsen will be out of action until at least the All-Star break because of the ailment. The 26-year-old’s spot in the bullpen will be filled by Jordan Romano.

Rockies selected the contract of RHP Jordan Romano from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Romano will get a chance to make his debut with the Rockies after signing with the club a month ago on a minor-league pact. The 33-year-old was once one of the better closers in baseball, but he’s been ineffective to put it mildly over the last few seasons. Even if he somehow earned some save chances, fantasy managers should look elsewhere.

Rockies recalled LHP Sean Sullivan from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Sullivan is up with Tomoyuki Sugano being placed on the injured list with back spasms, and the 23-year-old will make a start against the Giants on Sunday. If that goes relatively well — and even if it doesn’t, it’s the Rockies — there’s a good chance Sullivan will make another start with Sugano unavailable until after the break.

Rockies placed RHP Tomoyuki Sugano on the 15-day injured list with back spasms.

There was conflicting reports as to whether Sugano would need to be placed on the injured list, but the Rockies won’t take any chances. Sugano will likely be back — if there are no setbacks, of course — after the All-Star break. Sean Sullivan is up to take Sugano’s spot in the rotation, for now.

Dodgers recalled C Eliezer Alfonso from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Alfonso gets the nod with the Dodgers sending struggling backstop Chuckie Robinson Jr. to Triple-A to make room. Alfonso will be the backup to Dalton Rushing with Will Smith on the injured list, and isn’t likely to see a ton of playing time while with the club.
