Edwin Díaz, appearing in the eighth inning, allowed three runs while not recording an out against the Rockies on Sunday.

It was Díaz’s first appearance in nine days, and it looked like the rust effected him. His fastball velocity was down with a few 93 mph offerings — he did reach 97 mph a couple of times, to be fair — and his command was awful. He allowed three hits and a walk before exiting, and two runs scored after he exited the contest. The results are ugly, the velocity and lack of movement on his pitches are more concerning. Stay tuned.

Blue Jays activated OF/DH George Springer from the family medical emergency list.

Springer is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Giants in San Francisco, but he’s rejoined the club after taking a couple extra days to be with his family on paternity leave. The 36-year-old veteran hasn’t been able to come close to replicating last year’s remarkable 32-homer, 18-steal effort, slashing .221/.308/.373 with eight homers and six steals through 279 plate appearances over 63 games this season.

Blue Jays placed RHP Braydon Fisher on the bereavement list.

Fisher will be away from the club for a couple days on bereavement leave. The 25-year-old reliever has pitched to a solid 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 46/21 K/BB ratio across 46 innings this season.

Tommy Edman (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Edman receives some additional time off to recuperate after being hit by a pitch from Padres closer Mason Miller over the weekend. He was able to pinch-hit during Sunday’s series finale, which is a positive sign. The versatile 31-year-old has hit .347 (17-for-49) with one homer, nine RBI and one steal in 16 games since returning from the injured list for his season debut last month. It’ll be Miguel Rojas taking over at second base in his absence.

Shohei Ohtani is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Ohtani went 1-for-3 with an RBI in his return to the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Padres following a one-game absence due to biceps discomfort. The 32-year-old two-way superstar’s workload will probably need to be managed closely in the second half if the Dodgers are going to keep him healthy for the postseason. It’s undoubtedly a positive sign that he’s not missing any additional game action following an injury scare over the weekend.

Dodgers activated RHP Evan Phillips from the 60-day injured list.

Phillips blossomed into one of the most effective high-leverage relievers in baseball after being acquired by Los Angeles back in 2021. The 31-year-old has finally made it back after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. He figures to operate in low-leverage spots initially, but should factor into the Dodgers late-inning mix down the home stretch.

Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Carlos Duran from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Duran will remain stationed on the doorstep of the majors after being added to the Dodgers 40-man roster. The hard-throwing 24-year-old reliever hasn’t been back in the big leagues since making one appearance for the Athletics last year. He’s posted an encouraging 3.86 ERA and 50/25 K/BB ratio across 35 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.

Dodgers optioned RHP Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Gervase has been up-and-down as middle relief depth for Los Angeles over the past two seasons. The towering 26-year-old righty has posted a solid 2.35 ERA and 8/5 K/BB ratio across 7 2/3 innings over four appearances in the big leagues this season.

Dodgers designated C Chuckie Robinson for assignment.

Robinson loses his spot on Los Angeles’ 40-man roster amid a flurry of moves. The 31-year-old backstop went 2-for-23 during an eight-game stint with the Dodgers. It’ll be Eliezer Alfonzo backing up Dalton Rushing until Will Smith (neck) returns from the injured list.

    Dodgers released LHP Jake Eder.

Eder allowed one run over four innings across four relief outings for Los Angeles earlier this year. The 27-year-old lefty should be able to latch on somewhere else on a minor league pact.

Cade Cavalli’s seven-game suspension was reduced to five games on appeal.

Cavalli is eligible to start Sunday’s first-half finale against the Yankees following the five-game ban for his on-field actions against the Red Sox last week. The 27-year-old’s velocity was down and he dealt with some dehydration issues during Sunday’s start against the Pirates where he allowed four runs over 2 1/3 innings of work. The rough outing came on the heels of a brilliant 13-strikeout effort against Boston. There are likely to be fluctuations from a results standpoint with Cavalli, but he’s shown enough upside to merit consideration for a roster spot in most fantasy leagues heading into the second half.
