Guardians selected the contract of INF Travis Bazzana from Triple-A Columbus.
Bazzana will make his MLB debut Tuesday against the Rays in Tampa Bay and hit seventh while starting at second base. The 23-year-old was hitting .287/.4221/;511 with two homers and eight steals prior to the promotion. Bazzana doesn’t project to be a superstar and may deal with some struggles to begin his career — many top prospects do — but he’s worthy of consideration for those who may need middle-infield help.

Dansby Swanson was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Padres with a left glute cramp.
There’s really no other way to describe it. Swanson is presumably day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale. The 32-year-old shortstop was 1-for-2 with his second stolen base of the season prior to leaving the contest.
What happens with Castillo once Miller returns?
Eric Samulski unpacks Seattle Mariners' starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, and his early season struggles. He discuss what could happen with Castillo when Bryce Miller returns from an injury.

Clay Holmes tossed six scoreless innings and got the win in the Mets’ 8-0 victory over the Nationals on Tuesday.
  • MIA Catcher #34
Liam Hicks was a late scratch from Tuesday’s lineup due to illness.
Hicks was replaced by Agustín Ramírez behind the plate with Connor Norby taking over at DH. He’s presumably day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale.
  • PIT Shortstop #85
Konnor Griffin went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday’s loss to the Cardinals.
Griffin’s home run was his second of the year. The 20-year-old hit a solo shot off Matt Svanson in the ninth inning. In 24 games, Griffin is hitting .226 with nine runs, 13 RBI and six steals. Even with the home run, Giffin has a .119 ISO over his first 92 plate appearances in the major leagues. He had a .194 ISO in 122 minor league games last year, but most projection systems see him hitting only 11-12 more home runs this year.
  • STL Center Fielder #11
Victor Scott II went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday’s win over the Pirates.
Scott’s home run was a solo shot off Braxton Ashcraft in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old outfielder is out there for his speed and defense, but is hitting just .192 with three steals. It’s fair to wonder how much longer the Cardinals might stick with Scott over an intriguing prospect like Joshua Báez.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Blake Snell (shoulder) fired three scoreless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Low-A Ontario.
Snell had no trouble overwhelming hitters in the lower minors, striking out six of the first seven batters he faced while giving up just one hit. He wound up retiring nine of the 10 hitters he faced on 39 pitches (29 strikes). He’ll keep building up his pitch count and stamina during his next rehab outing and should be ready for his season debut at some point in May.
  • DET Shortstop #28
Javier Báez will undergo an MRI on his right ankle.
“That one looked scary,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters after Báez was carted off the field during Tuesday’s game against the Braves following an awkward feet-first slide into first base attempting to avoid a tag. The fact that there isn’t an immediate update from the club following the contest suggests that Báez is probably dealing with a serious injury. There should be some clarity on his status at some point soon. Any sort of extended absence would likely open the door for top prospect Max Clark to take over in center field.
  • STL 3rd Baseman #16
Nolan Gorman went 1-for-3 with a run, a home run and three RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Pirates.
Gorman’s home run was his fourth of the season. He’s hitting .221 with four home runs, 11 runs and 18 RBI in 28 games this year. Gorman hasn’t had a league average wRC+ since 2023. Even after hitting his fourth home run, his .147 ISO would be the lowest of his career. Turning 26 next month, Gorman appears closer to losing playing time to someone like Thomas Saggesse than breaking out.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #35
Braxton Ashcraft allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Ashcraft allowed six hits, walked three and struck out seven. He fell to 1-2 with the loss. The 26-year-old right-hander now has a 3.71 ERA and 3.42 xFIP on the year. In 34 innings this season, he’s struck out 39, walked 12 and allowed three home runs. Ashcraft’s clunky start Tuesday included two of those home runs, but he’s still worth consideration for fantasy managers in standard mixed leagues. He’s lined up to face the Reds at home on Sunday.
  • CIN Shortstop #44
Elly De La Cruz finished 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and two steals in the Reds’ 7-2 defeat of the Rockies on Tuesday.
De La Cruz really filled up the box score in this one, finishing with a homer and multiple steals for the third time in his career. The other occasions were both in 2024. As of the moment, he’s tied for fourth in MLB with 10 homers, ninth with eight steals, tied for fourth with 26 runs scored and tied for ninth with 24 RBI.
