Cecconi served up a two-run homer to Shea Langeliers in the first inning. Three base hits would bring another run in to score in the fourth. Langeliers would get to Cecconi again with a solo blast in the fifth. A single, a double, and a sacrifice fly made it five runs against Cecconi before he was relieved with one out in the sixth at 69 pitches. He struck out three, picking up his first win with 14 runs of support. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 6.56 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and a 28/13 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings into a start against the Royals in Kansas City on Thursday.

An MRI on the injured back of the 32-year-old hurler revealed “nothing really significant” according to Roberts. The team is not currently considering a stint on the injured list, but they’ll wait and see how he progresses before determining when exactly he’ll slot back into the club’s starting rotation.

The versatile 24-year-old will return to add an extra bat to the Pirates’ bench with Jake Mangum (hamstring) heading to the injured list. Yorke has hit just .221/.308/.309 with one homer and six RBI in 78 plate appearances with the Bucs this season.

Mangum was a late scratch from Thursday’s lineup due to the hamstring issue and was feeling even worse on Friday, so the Pirates felt it was prudent to place him on the injured list. Nick Yorke was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move to take his place on the Pirates’ active roster.

The 39-year-old southpaw is working his way back from a left hamstring strain. He’ll repeat the process again on Sunday and then progress to a full bullpen early next week. If all goes well, he could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment the following week. Barring any setbacks along the way, Thielbar should be able to return to the Cubs’ bullpen before the month of May is through.

Azocar was designated for assignment earlier in the week but passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Braves at Triple-A Gwinnett. The 29-year-old went hitless in two at-bats and stole a base during his limited action with the big league club.

The 27-year-old right-hander is doing well in his recovery so far and is counting down the days until he’s able to get back on the mound again. We still have yet to hear from the Astros on a potential timeline for his return, but based on his current trajectory it’s looking like he won’t be back until sometime in June.

Yankees’ skipper Aaron Boone noted that Gil won’t throw for at least the next three weeks due to the issue. Boone also clarified that this is a new injury and not something that that was causing his poor performance during his time with the Yankees.

Harvey had been working his way back from a triceps strain but suffered a setback while progressing through his throwing program. At this stage, there’s no clear timetable for when he may be able to rejoin the Cubs’ bullpen.

Woodruff had a minor procedure done on Tuesday to have a cyst drained from his shoulder. If all goes well with that session, he’ll progress to a bullpen session and then to a simulated game. The 33-year-old hurler is in great spirits and is ready to get to work as soon as possible in order to return to the Brewers’ rotation as quickly as possible.

The 34-year-old hurler elected free agency from the Mets after he was sent outright to Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the week. Given his experience and veteran moxie, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get an opportunity to pitch out of a depleted Tigers’ bullpen in relatively short order.
