Gordon has a 6.35 ERA in 17 innings with the Rockies this season. He was just sent down to the minors on Tuesday, but is back up with Jimmy Herget (shoulder) being placed on the injured list.

Eisert gets the call to replace an injured Mitch Keller (shoulder) on Pittsburgh’s roster. The 28-year-old lefty reliever was picked up from the White Sox in a trade last month.

Keller’s season is officially over and he’s facing a lengthy recovery process after being diagnosed with a serious shoulder ailment. It’s a bit unclear how much time he’s going to miss, but it’ll definitely be a multi-month absence given the nature of the injury. The 30-year-old starter finishes with an underwhelming 5.29 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 89/42 K/BB ratio across 115 2/3 innings over 22 starts.

May might have peaked in May, but he’s still done quite well in posting a 2.92 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in his last five starts. The Brewers don’t ask for lengthy outings from their starters, which should work in May’s favor. His fantasy value should increase a tad with the deal, though there is the risk that the Brewers will occasionally pull him with a lead in the fifth. The Brewers will have to decide whether to go to a six-man rotation for now or to have May replace Robert Gasser.

Romero is on the shelf after having his appendix removed last month, but he could be back in a couple of weeks. The reliable lefty setup man has a 3.35 ERA in 43 innings this year and has come in at 2.87 in 163 innings since the start of 2024. He’ll be a free agent at season’s end.

Signing May to a $12.5 million deal last winter worked out about as well as the Cardinals could have hoped, as they’re flipping him for a couple of very interesting prospects here. The 18-year-old Frias hit a crazy .441/.518/.678 in 32 games in the Complex League this year before moving up to Low-A ball and coming in at .236/.328/.418 in his first 28 games. He has some star potential as a left-handed, power-hitting corner outfielder.

Ragsdale, 22, was a nice find from the seventh round of last year’s draft. He opened 2026 hitting .327/.447/.528 in 60 games in High-A and has kept it going at .292/.429/.698 with 12 homers in 26 games since moving up to Double-A. He’s also 31-for-34 stealing bases on the year. Strikeouts are a problem and he lacks polish defensively, but the talent is there for him to become a starter in center.

It’s a tough break for Miller’s immediate fantasy outlook as he’ll be stuck behind Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock in Boston’s high-leverage mix. However, he provides the Red Sox with another reliable late-inning option as they attempt to make a real playoff push following the best month in franchise history. The 28-year-old lefty boasts a strong 2.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 45/22 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings this season. His departure obviously leaves San Francisco’s closing situation in flux.

Mayer was viewed as one of Boston’s potential future franchise cornerstones just a few years previously. He simply never found his footing at the highest level despite possessing impressive raw talent and a sweet-looking left-handed swing. The 23-year-old former fourth overall selection from the 2021 draft has struggled to stay healthy at the highest level and the Red Sox ultimately decided to move on, using him as a trade chip to fortify their bullpen. The meteoric rise of Franklin Arias, who has emerged as the club’s potential shortstop of the future, seemingly sealed Mayer’s fate here. It’s a decent move for his long-term future as he’ll get a change of scenery and plenty of opportunities to emerge as a key contributor in San Francisco.

Mitchell joined the Guardians back in 2024 in the Andrés Giménez trade. A former fourth-round pick, Mitchell puts the ball in play as seen in just 54 strikeouts over 329 plate appearances, and he has good speed with 19 steals over 75 games. There’s also very little power in his bat, so Mitchell profiles best as a fourth outfielder who helps a real-life roster a lot more than a fantasy version.

First of all, terrific name. Virguez is a 22-year-old reliever who just reached Double-A and has posted a 45/15 K/BB ratio and 4.13 ERA over 28 1/3 innings, with all but 2 2/3 of those frames coming in High-A. The right-hander has the ability to miss bats, but his command has a long ways to go before it’s ready to help at the highest level. The Nationals will do their best to harness that stuff and turn it into a high-leverage option. Weirder things have happened.
