Mike Yastrzemski went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, and two runs scored as the Braves took down the Red Sox 8-1 on Sunday.

Yaz, currently in a platoon with José Azocar, drew the start in right field as Atlanta faced Brayan Bello. The veteran outfielder then took advantage of the matchup with a fourth-inning solo homer off Bello, one of two long balls the starter surrendered. Yastrzemski will shift back to left field once Ronald Acuña Jr. returns from injury, and he’ll continue starting against most right-handers.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Chase Lee from Triple-A Buffalo

The 27-year-old has a 2.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 40/18 K/BB ratio in 45 innings at Triple-A so far this season. His 3 1/3 MLB innings have been far less successful.
Trade deadline moves set to shake up AL East race
The AL East was one of baseball's busiest divisions leading up to Monday's trade deadline, leaving CC Sabathia to assess how the Rays and Yankees stack up following their respective moves.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Lazaro Estrada from Triple-A Buffalo

Estrada has a 4.82 ERA in 9 1/3 innings so far this season for the Blue Jays. He was just demoted to Triple-A on Tuesday but is eligible to come right back since Trey Yesavage (knee) was put on the injured list.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Chad Dallas to Triple-A Buffalo

Dallas was needed for three innings out of the bullpen on Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits. He’ll now head back to the minors so the team can get a fresh arm up in the bullpen.

Blue Jays placed RHP Trey Yesavage on the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation.

The latest report was that the Blue Jays were still waiting on MRI results, but it’s clear that they felt Yesavage would not be a good bet to make his next start or the one after. The Blue Jays didn’t fully sell at the deadline, but their playoff hopes remain slim, so they may not be inclined to rush Yesavage and have him pitch at less than 100 percent. We’ll wait for the MRI results before we know more about how long he will be sidelined.

Nationals have requested unconditional release waivers on Joey Wiemer.

We are a long way from March, when Wiemer went 10-for-22 with two home runs, seven runs scored, and four RBI in the first five games of the season. The 27-year-old is hitting .196/.277/.257 in 166 plate appearances at Triple-A. He’ll try to sign a minor league contract somewhere else.

Royals acquired OF Jacob Berry from the Marlins

Berry was the 6th overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft, but he has slashed just .245/.325/.377 across 469 minor league games. The Marlins had also placed him on the development list a few times in the weeks leading up to the trade. Perhaps a change of scenery will help the 25-year-old.

Rangers placed LHP MacKenzie Gore on the paternity list.

Congrats to MacKenzie and his growing family. He pitched six innings on Tuesday night, so this won’t impact his turn in the rotation.

Isaac Paredes is not in the lineup on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

This is a bit of a mental reset for Paredes with a day game after a night game. The third baseman is in an 0-for-15 slump, and manager Joe Espada said, “I see him trying to do a little bit too much at the plate.” Nick Allen will start at third base and bat ninth.

Bryce Eldridge (thumb contusion) is starting at first base and leading off against the Rangers on Wednesday.

This is the first game with Eldridge in the lineup since Luis Arraez was traded. Eldridge has also led off before, but, notably, he’s doing so against a lefty on Wednesday. If this change were permanent, it would likely hurt his RBI totals, but be good for his overall plate appearances and run totals.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not in the lineup for Toronto on Wednesday against the Astros.

It seems like a routine day off for the struggling first baseman, who is slashing .259/.338/.349 with six home runs and 44 RBI in 456 plate appearances. He has a career-low 6.7 percent barrel rate and 43.6 percent hard-hit rate on the season in what has been an incredibly disappointing year. Kazuma Okamoto will first start at first base and bat second, with Josh Smith starting at third base and batting sixth.
