A solid first start for Alvarez this year after he previously posted a 4.02 ERA in 15 2/3 innings over five relief appearances. There’s no real upside here, but Alvarez is more likely to give the Nationals five decent innings each time out than a few other pitchers the team has tried in recent years. He’ll likely continue to start for now and face the Giants next week.

Woo noted that Glasnow’s fastball was sitting 95-97 mph during the session. The team plans to have him throw to live hitters one more time before sending him out on a rehab assignment. That means Glasnow could begin his rehab assignment this weekend or early next week. He would likely need about three starts before returning to the Dodgers, which means he might be an option for them during the first week of September. Just in time to get him ready for the playoffs, which has always been the Dodgers’ primary concern.

Seager remains without a definitive return timeline but he’s expected to head out on a minor league rehab assignment later this week. The 32-year-old shortstop has been out with lower back inflammation since early July. There’s a chance he’s back in the Rangers’ lineup at some point in early August.

Snell is scheduled to throw four innings and roughly 60 pitches in his next rehab start on Wednesday, and, as Woo notes, the Dodgers would likely “prefer to wait to activate” the left-hander. However, starting on Tuesday, the Dodgers don’t have an off-day until August 6th, which means 10 days in a row with a game. If the team wants to avoid using Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on regular rest, as Woo indicates they might, then activating Snell and having him on a strict pitch count is something that the Dodgers would consider doing.

Early is scheduled to throw again later this week. Nationals president Paul Toboni told reporters earlier on Monday that Early will begin a minor league rehab assignment in early August. The 24-year-old, who was acquired from the Red Sox for Curtis Mead last Friday, has been out with posterior elbow inflammation since late June. He’ll need a couple weeks to build up his pitch count and stamina in the minors before making his Washington debut.

Montgomery returns to Chicago’s lineup at DH and hitting cleanup following a one-game absence after fouling a ball off his lower right leg for the second time in the last week. The 24-year-old slugger will probably need a couple extra days of rest and treatment before he’s able to return to playing shortstop, but it seems highly unlikely that he’ll require a trip to the injured list.

De León is the 7th-ranked prospect in the Orioles system, according to MLB Pipeline, and the 2nd-ranked prospect on the Orioles and the 95th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to FanGraphs. The 23-year-old posted a 4.33 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 100/ 42 K/BB ratio in 81 innings at Double-A this season. If he ends the season strong in Triple-A, he could battle for a rotation spot in 2027.

This is a tough break for the 20-year-old, who has a 2.43 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 118/31 K/BB ratio in 71 innings across 18 starts this season at Single-A and High-A. The injury occurred during his last outing on July 24th, and there is no timeline for his return right now.

At this point, you have to wonder how much longer Marsee can hold off Esteury Ruiz, and he could be in line for a trip to Triple-A when Owen Caissie (calf) is back from the injured list. Marsee is hitting .195/.315/.288 on the season with five home runs and 19 steals in 410 plate appearances. He does have an Outs Above Average of 5 in center field, which is likely saving his job right now, but his Defensive Runs Saved is -12, so not all metrics are convinced that he’s a good defender.

Not only is Acuña Jr. at the top of the lineup, but he’s right back into the outfield, which is a great sign for his health. Drake Baldwin will DH this game and hit second, with Joey Bart starting behind the dish and hitting eighth.

This is Beavers’ fifth straight start and fourth straight start as the leadoff hitter. The 24-year-old has received inconsistent playing time this season, but he is hitting .321/.406/.393 in nine games since the All-Star break with four RBI, one steal, and an 8/3 K/BB ratio. Of course, he has only been caught stealing twice, which isn’t ideal, but his pulled groundball approach has been working for his batting average, and hitting atop the batting order should hopefully begin to lead to some runs scored for Beavers as well.
