Nolan Schanuel was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Astros with left calf tightness.

Schanuel, who has been battling a lingering ankle issue the past couple weeks, was hit by a pitch on the lower left leg before making an early exit from Tuesday’s contest. He’s presumably day-to-day for now.

    Rangers released RHP Chris Martin.

Martin has almost always been effective when healthy, but that stopped at age 40 this year, as he gave up 14 earned runs in 14 innings for the Rangers. Still, given that his velocity hasn’t changed much, we’re guessing he’ll be offered minor league deals by a bunch of contenders.

Shohei Ohtani played catch in the outfield prior to Saturday’s game against the D-backs.

It’s been 2 1/2 weeks since Ohtani was last known to have thrown. It’s doubtful he’ll be back on the major league mound before Sept. 1 as he recovers from left knee and right biceps issues, but he is in the Dodgers lineup as a DH tonight.

Walbert Ureña allowed four runs with two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings in a loss against the Marlins on Saturday.

Ureña pitched two quiet innings against the Marlins before completely losing it in the third. A base hit and two walks loaded the bases for Xavier Edwards, who doubled to drive in two runs. Another walk loaded the bases again before Otto Lopez drove in two more runs on a single. That would do it for Ureña, ending his day with one out in the third inning. The 22-year-old right-hander will take a 2.83 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 97/55 K/BB ratio across 101 2/3 innings into a start against the Rangers in Anaheim on Thursday.
