Pinch-hitting for Zack Short in the sixth, Workman homered off Nick Mears with a man on to make it a 5-3 game. He hit that fly 383 feet and then had an impressive flyout at 106 mph in his second and final at-bat. That one had an xBA of .840. A left-handed hitter, Workman wasn’t going to start against the lefty Noah Cameron tonight, but he was doing well enough in Triple-A (.358/.413/.590) that he really should get a look here with Kerry Carpenter out. He’ll probably start at least a couple of games during the Mets series that begins Tuesday.

What year is this? Wrobleski is the first pitcher since Zach Wheeler in 2021 to go at least eight innings and allow seven runs. But only five of Wheeler’s seven were earned. He’s the first since Alex Cobb in 2012 to go at least eight innings with seven earned runs, and he’s the first since Carlos Silva in 2006 to go 8 2/3 innings with seven runs allowed. With one more out, it could have been the first nine-inning complete game with seven runs allowed since Bobby Witt threw 151 pitches on the final day of the 1993 season. Although that would have required him giving up a couple of more hits first; it was actually 5-2 when he was pulled after unfortunately hitting Mike Yastrzemski in the helmet. Wyatt Mills replaced him and allowed two inherited runners to score before finishing the game. Wrobleski, who allowed seven hits and walked one today, threw a mere 100 pitches. He actually struck out seven, besting his previous season high by one. He fell to 5-1 with a 2.42 ERA. He’s due to face the Angels next.

Martin allowed five baserunners while throwing 105 pitches over six strong frames. He’s been a different pitcher thus season after adding a cutter and re-designing his breaking pitches. His slider, in particular, has been a difference-maker and entered the outing with a 59 percent whiff rate on 93 pitches. The pitch models aren’t fully buying in, but his advanced metrics show enough for him to be a must-start option at home against the Cubs next time out.

He did give up seven hits, and he really should be racking up strikeouts against Low-A hitters. Still, this is encouraging. Rodriguez is already up to 94 pitches already, so the Angels could, theoretically, add him to their rotation at any time. However, he’s not their current year’s first-round pick, so they’ll probably want him to face more advanced competition first.

Rodriguez, who had never had a complete game in 242 career starts, was supposed to be done after eight, but he talked manager Torey Lovullo into sending him back out. He just couldn’t do so for a second time after giving up a weak flyball single with one out in the ninth. It was just the fourth hit allowed by Rodriguez. He only had four strikeouts and six whiffs on 48 swings, but he obviously didn’t need them against the lineup the Mets are currently running out against lefties. At 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA on the season, he might seem like a reasonable pickup, but we still dislike the career-low 16.5 percent strikeout rate and the career-high 11 percent walk rate. He’ll face the Rockies in Coors next weekend.

The double off Tobias Myers was a 102-mph shot that traveled 404 feet to center. Waldschmidt is off to a 3-for-8 start, though he has struck out four times already. He played left field today after starting in center on Saturday. Jorge Barrosa was in center today.

He allowed only three hits, a double to Nico Hoerner and singles from Hoerner and Michael Busch, and walked none. It’s his 63rd career 10-strikeout game and 47th start of at least six scoreless innings. It also went as his 99th career win in 256 starts. DeGrom is 3-2 with a 2.62 ERA this season, and he’ll get the Astros next.

Schwarber is tied with Aaron Judge for the MLB lead at 16 homers, with Munetaka Murakami right behind the duo at 15. Schwarber is striking out a little more than typical to begin 2026, but he’s also barreling the ball at a higher-than-normal clip. The Phillies open a three-game series at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

Sánchez needed 103 pitches in the outing, allowing six hits and walking none. In a weekend where neither Jesus Luzardo nor Aaron Nola could take advantage of facing the Rockies on the road, Sánchez made sure to. The 29-year-old southpaw is sporting a career-best K% so far this season and continues to be worth every penny of the big extension he signed before Opening Day. He visits the Pirates next.

Turang’s first career walkoff homer came off David Bednar with the game one out away from going to extras. He has six homers this year, so he’s on pace to top last year’s total of 18. After improving his slugging percentage from .300 as a rookie to .349 as a sophomore to .435 last year, he’s all of the way up to .511 right now.
