Targets & Touches: AFC

Targets and Touches will only have players’ six most recent games, regardless if they were active or on a bye. The data will be in descending order of games played. NFC will debut on Tuesday, and the AFC will be posted on Wednesday. You can see the NFC Targets and Touches here.

All targets and touches data is compiled from Pro Football Reference. Cornerback data is sourced via Pro Football Focus. Click here to see the Week 5 NFC targets.

Note: I decided to include more players into the Targets and Touches format for the rest of the season. For simplicity, cornerbacks who see at least 50 percent of the prior week’s snaps will be included.

Observations: Steve Smith Sr. left this game with an ankle injury and Mike Wallace took over leading the team with 11 targets. Dennis Pitta also saw an uptick in volume with eight targets. Pitta has one red zone target on the year. Kamar Aiken will see an increased role in Week 6 if Smith isn’t able to suit up.

Observations: LeSean McCoy’s strong season continue for the Bills, he has garnered 330 rushing yards in his last three games. McCoy owns 41 percent of the red zone market share of opportunities and 61 percent of the carries from in close. He’s also third on the team in target share, just three targets behind Charles Clay. It may be difficult to count on any of the pass-catchers here in such a low-volume passing offense. Tyrod Taylor has 25 or fewer pass attempts in three of his five games this season.

Cincinnati Bengals

Targets: A.J. Green (13, 8, 11, 12, 8), Brandon LaFell (4, 8, 3, 6, 11), Giovani Bernard (4, 11, 5, 4, 6), C.J. Uzomah (5, 8, 4, 5, 5), Tyler Boyd (3, 8, 4, 3, 5), Jeremy Hill (0, 5, 0, 1, 1), Tyler Kroft (0, 4, 0, 0, 3), James Wright (1, 1, 1, 0, 0), Alex Erickson (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

Observations: The Bengals struggled to get much going in this game, and A.J. Green was limited to 50 yards on seven targets. Jeremy Hill was hampered with a chest injury and played just 15 snaps, while Giovani Bernard was in on 76 percent of the snaps. Brandon LaFell has an intriguing box score, but his two touchdowns came in garbage time. He owns 17 percent of the target share for the Bengals.

CBs Thrown At: Jamar Taylor 5, 6, 5, 6, 9 (4-66, 4-55-1, 2-48, 5-37, 6-54), Joe Haden 2, 7 (2-6, 5-85-1)

Observations: The Browns were throttled by the Patriots on Sunday. Cody Kessler was injured early on, and Charlie Whitehurst took over. Isaiah Crowell had 13 totes, but you can’t establish a run game when you’re down 23-7 at halftime. Whitehurst spread the ball around to Gary Barnidge, Terrelle Pryor, and Andrew Hawkins.

Observations: The entire Broncos offense suffered with Paxton Lynch behind center. C.J. Anderson couldn’t get anything going on the ground, and he saw a mere 11 carries, with Devontae Booker close behind at six carries. Trevor Siemian is expected to be ready Thursday night against the Chargers.

Houston Texans

Targets: DeAndre Hopkins (8, 11, 8, 6, 9), Will Fuller (11, 7, 7, 9, 6), Ryan Griffin (2, 2, 10, 5, 6), Jaelen Strong (0, 1, 4, 6, 9), C.J. RZ Carries: Lamar Miller (2, 5, 0, 1, 0), Braxton Miller (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: A.J. Bouye 4 (3-41), Kevin A. Johnson 7 (5-40)

Observations: It has been tough sledding for any offense against the Vikings’ defense. Trailing early, Lamar Miller failed to reach double-digit carries. Miller has yet to score a touchdown through five games this year. The Texans’ offense should have an easier go of it next week against the Colts.

Indianapolis Colts

Targets: T.Y. Hilton (12, 11, 11, 10, 11), Dwayne Allen (6, 4, 5, 4, 6), Josh Ferguson (2, 5, 4, 10, 4), Phillip Dorsett (6, 5, 4, 3, 3), Frank Gore (6, 3, 3, 6, 2), Jack Doyle (4, 5, 6, 1, 3), Chester Rogers (0, 1, 2, 3, 6), Donte Moncrief (7, 3, 0, 0, 0), Robert Turbin (2, 1, 0, 3, 0), Quan Bray (0, 1, 0, 0, 3)

Observations: T.Y. Hilton now has 25+ more targets than any other pass-catcher on this offense. Hilton owns 27 percent of the Colts’ target share. The next closest is Josh Ferguson and Dwayne Allen with 12 percent. Hilton’s volume should remain high all year, especially while Donte Moncrief is out.

RZ Carries: Jay Ajayi (0, 0, 2, 0, 5), Ryan Tannehill (2, 1, 0, 0, 0), Arian Foster (1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Kenyan Drake (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Byron Maxwell 5 (3-22-1) Tony Lippett 6, 8 (4-72-1, 7-51-1)

Observations: It’s going to be difficult for any pass-catcher to have a nice game when Ryan Tannehill has 18 pass attempts, with zero TDs and two interceptions. Jay Ajayi started this game and out-touched Kenyan Drake 13-to-2. So, that’s something for the Dolphins, right? However, Arian Foster is projected to return soon.

Observations: With Tom Brady back we finally received a glimpse of the old New England Patriots. Julian Edelman’s volume shot back up, which was encouraging. However, with Brady back, it was the TEs that did the majority of the damage for this offense. Martellus Bennett scored three times against the Browns. Rob Gronkowski played a season-high 81 percent of the snaps and ran 34 pass routes. With Brady back, Gronk should be trending upward.

New York Jets

Targets: Brandon Marshall (8, 9, 10, 12, 15), Quincy Enunwa (8, 6, 11, 7, 7), Bilal Powell (4, 2, 7, 9, 8), Eric Decker (7, 8, 6, 0, 0), Matt Forte (7, 3, 4, 3, 2), Robby Anderson (0, 0, 2, 6, 2), Jalin Marshall (0, 4, 4, 0, 0), Charone Peake (0, 0, 0, 3, 1), Austin Seferian-Jenkins (0, 0, 0, 0, 2), Brandon Bostick (0, 1, 0, 0, 1), Braedon Bowman (0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Kellen Davis (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: Matt Forte (22, 30, 15, 14, 12), Bilal Powell (4, 1, 4, 4, 4), Ryan Fitzpatrick (4, 5, 3, 2, 1)

RZ Targets: Brandon Marshall (3, 0, 4, 1, 2), Bilal Powell (1, 2, 2, 1, 0), Eric Decker (2, 1, 1, 0, 0), Quincy Enunwa (1, 0, 3, 0, 0), Matt Forte (0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Matt Forte (6, 8, 2, 1, 1), Ryan Fitzpatrick (1, 2, 0, 0, 0), Bilal Powell (1, 0, 1, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Darrelle Revis 8, 5, 6, 2, OUT (8-83, 2-90-1, 5-45, 2-17, OUT), Marcus Williams 6, 5, 4, 3, 9 (4-91, 3-22, 2-29, 3-36-1, 6-127-1), Buster Skrine 3, 4, 5, 5, 4 (2-24, 2-20, 5-45, 5-56-1, 4-21-1)

Observations: As of writing this, the Jets plan to place Eric Decker on IR with a torn rotator cuff. With Decker out, Brandon Marshall has seen 27 targets the last two weeks. Quincy Enunwa’s role in this offense will remain stable with Decker out. The Jets continue to dial back Matt Forte’s workload after he has 15 or fewer carries every week since Week 3. Bilal Powell is also being utilized more in the passing game. Although Forte ran more routes (24-to-18) than Powell on Sunday, Powell out-targeted Forte 7-to-2.

Oakland Raiders

Targets: Amari Cooper (11, 9, 9, 6, 12), Michael Crabtree (9, 5, 11, 12, 7), Seth Roberts (4, 6, 6, 3, 3), Clive Walford (5, 7, 3, 4, 0), Jalen Richard (2, 1, 1, 3, 7), DeAndre Washington (1, 1, 1, 3, 6), Latavius Murray (2, 6, 1, 2, 0), Andre Holmes (1, 3, 1, 0, 3), Lee Smith (0, 4, 1, 1, 0), Jamize Olawale (0, 2, 1, 0, 1), Taiwan Jones (2, 0, 0, 0, 0), Johnny Holton (0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Mychal Rivera (0, 0, 0, 1, 0)

Carries: Latavius Murray (14, 8, 10, 8, 0), DeAndre Washington (5, 6, 6, 5, 9), Jalen Richard (3, 7, 6, 2, 8), Derek Carr (2, 2, 1, 3, 2), Jamize Olawale (1, 1, 1, 1, 6), Johnny Holton (0, 1, 1, 0, 0), Taiwan Jones (1, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Latavius Murray (1, 3, 0, 1, 0), DeAndre Washington (1, 0, 0, 0, 2), Jamize Olawale (1, 0, 0, 0, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Sean Smith 5, 7, 7, 7, 5 (3-172-1, 6-67-2, 1-19, 4-47, 3-87), David Amerson 5, 6, 11, 6, 5 (5-40, 3-40, 4-38, 3-61-1, 4-148-1), D.J. Hayden 4, 2, 7, 10, 5 (4-21-1, 2-25, 7-94, 5-27, 2-25)

Observations: With Latavius Murray sidelined, the Raiders’ backfield workload was evenly spread between DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard. Washington out-snapped Richard, playing 51 percent of the snaps, to Richards 32 percent. Both RBs saw 15 touches in this game and Washington ran 23 pass routes to Richard’s 15. The difference was Richard garnered 66 receiving yards, to Washington’s 29. Jamize Olawle scored the touchdown for the Raiders’ backfield while seeing six carries. There isn’t much upside to be found in this backfield.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Targets: Antonio Brown (11, 11, 18, 5, 11), Sammie Coates (3, 5, 4, 8, 11), Jesse James (7, 5, 4, 2, 8), DeAngelo Williams (9, 5, 7, 1, 1), Le’Veon Bell (0, 0, 0, 6, 11), Eli Rogers (7, 3, 5, 0, 0), Markus Wheaton (0, 0, 5, 1, 3), Xavier Grimble (0, 4, 0, 2, 2), Darrius Heyward-Bey (0, 2, 1, 1, 0), David Johnson (0, 1, 0, 1, 0), Fitzgerald Toussaint (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: DeAngelo Williams (26, 32, 8, 4, 1), Le’Veon Bell (0, 0, 0, 18, 20), Ben Roethlisberger (1, 1, 1, 1, 0), Fitzgerald Toussaint (3, 1, 0, 0, 0), Landry Jones (0, 0, 0, 2, 2), Daryl Richardson (0, 1, 1, 0, 0), Sammie Coates (0, 1, 0, 1, 0)

RZ Targets: Jesse James (2, 1, 0, 1, 1), Antonio Brown (0, 1, 0, 1, 2), Sammie Coates (0, 0, 1, 1, 2), Eli Rogers (2, 0, 0, 0, 0), Markus Wheaton (0, 0, 1, 0, 1), Xavier Grimble (0, 1, 0, 1, 0), DeAngelo Williams (0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Le’Veon Bell (0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

RZ Carries: DeAngelo Williams (3, 2, 2, 1, 0), Le’Veon Bell (0, 0, 0, 0, 2), Ben Roethlisberger (0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Daryl Richardson (0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Ross Cockrell 6, 8, 2, 4, 11 (4-34, 3-40, 2-20, 4-44, 7-96-1), William Gay 3, 7, 8, 9, 1 (2-17, 4-48, 6-43-1, 5-52, 0-0), Sean Davis 7 (6-60)

Observations: Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, and Sammie Coates all saw 11 targets against this putrid Jets secondary. Most notable, Coates went 6-139-2, but it’s hard to believe he could’ve scored four touchdowns, but dropped a lay-up in the end zone on a short slant, then proceeded to drop another later on. The Steelers draw a juicy matchup against the Dolphins in Week 6. Jam Le’Veon into your DFS lineups.

San Diego Chargers

Targets: Travis Benjamin (8, 6, 7, 7, 11), Tyrell Williams (5, 6, 9, 8, 6), Dontrelle Inman (3, 3, 4, 11, 3), Hunter Henry (2, 0, 5, 7, 4), Melvin Gordon (0, 3, 7, 7, 1), Antonio Gates (4, 5, 0, 0, 5), Danny Woodhead (7, 1, 0, 0, 0), Keenan Allen (7, 0, 0, 0, 0), Dexter McCluster (0, 0, 3, 3, 0), Derek Watt (0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Kenneth Farrow (0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Sean McGrath (0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

Carries: Melvin Gordon (14, 24, 16, 19, 16), Danny Woodhead (16, 3, 0, 0, 0), Philip Rivers (2, 1, 1, 1, 0), Kenneth Farrow (0, 4, 0, 0, 0), Dexter McCluster (0, 0, 0, 1, 1), Kellen Clemens (0, 2, 0, 0, 0), Derek Watt (0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Travis Benjamin (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: Tyrell Williams (1, 3, 2, 2, 0), Antonio Gates (1, 3, 0, 0, 1), Dexter McCluster (0, 0, 3, 2, 0), Travis Benjamin (3, 1, 0, 0, 1), Hunter Henry (1, 0, 0, 2, 1), Melvin Gordon (0, 1, 1, 0, 1), Danny Woodhead (2, 0, 0, 0, 0), Dontrelle Inman (0, 2, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Melvin Gordon (3, 8, 3, 6, 4), Danny Woodhead (3, 0, 0, 0, 0), Dexter McCluster (0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Kenneth Farrow (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Casey Hayward 6, 4, 1, 5, 9 (3-39, 2-38, 0-0, 4-44, 6-83-1), Steve D. Williams 7 (3-54), Craig Mager 5 (4-24)

Observations: Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin each went for 117 yards and a touchdown, but Benjamin out-targeted Williams 11-to-7. While Antonio Gates was active for this game, he played 35 percent of the snaps to Hunter Henry’s 82 percent. Gates managed 30 yards and a TD on five targets, but it would be nice to see his snap counts rise. Henry will remain a viable TE streamer.

Tennessee Titans

Targets: Tajae Sharpe (11, 7, 7, 7, 4), Delanie Walker (5, 6, 0, 8, 8), DeMarco Murray (7, 7, 5, 2, 6), Rishard Matthews (4, 6, 8, 2, 4), Andre Johnson (7, 2, 3, 5, 4), Harry Douglas (5, 0, 4, 0, 0), Anthony Fasano (0, 3, 0, 1, 1), Jace Amaro (0, 0, 4, 0, 0), Kendall Wright (0, 0, 0, 3, 1), Derrick Henry (2, 1, 0, 0, 0), Phillip Supernaw (0, 1, 1, 0, 0), Jalston Fowler (0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

Carries: DeMarco Murray (13, 12, 16, 25, 27), Derrick Henry (5, 9, 10, 3, 7), Marcus Mariota (4, 2, 3, 4, 7), Matt Cassel (0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: DeMarco Murray (5, 1, 1, 0, 2), Tajae Sharpe (1, 1, 1, 1, 0), Andre Johnson (1, 1, 0, 0, 1), Delanie Walker (1, 0, 0, 1, 1), Harry Douglas (1, 0, 2, 0, 0), Rishard Matthews (1, 0, 0, 0, 1), Jalston Fowler (0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: DeMarco Murray (1, 0, 2, 6, 3), Derrick Henry (0, 1, 0, 0, 1), Marcus Mariota (1, 0, 0, 0, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Jason McCourty 9, 9, 6, 3, 3 (3-52, 5-53, 2-26, 1-6, 2-61), Perrish Cox 4, 10, 10, 7, 0 (3-31, 6-85, 6-89, 5-47-1), Brice McCain 0 (0-0)

Observations: Delanie Walker is going to remain the only reliable pass-catcher on this offense. He has now seen 16 targets the last two weeks. Tajae Sharpe has quickly fallen into an unusable fantasy commodity. DeMarco Murray continues to be heavily used with 52 carries the last two weeks, along with being tied for the second-most targets on the team with Delanie Walker. Murray owns 51 percent of the market share of opportunities for the Titans and 75 percent of the red zone carries. Murray could be in for a big game against the Browns this week.
