Panthers placed RT Taylor Moton on the reserve/non-football injury list with blood clots.

He’s joined by CB Jaycee Horn, who cut his foot while running and required stitches. Horn’s injury is expected to be a minor one. Moton, on the other hand, is expected to miss the start of the season and the “belief” is he’ll play in 2026. The Panthers later clarified that Moton is hopeful to return from clotting in his lung at “mid-season.” Rookie first-round tackle Monroe Freeling figures to step in for Moton early.

Horn received stitches on his foot after cutting himself running, prompting the move to the NFI list. Now healthy and cleared to practice, Horn moves to an active status and is set to participate in Panthers camp, with today marking the first day of padded practices.

According to The Athletic’s Mike Kaye, the Panthers converted Horn’s 2026 salary earlier in the week, which freed up enough cap space for the Panthers to sign six draft picks and 10 UDFAs on Thursday. Horn signed a four-year extension with the Panthers in 2025 and remains under contract through the 2029 season. Last year he totaled 37 tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions in 16 games and has earned a Pro Bowl nod in each of the last two seasons.
  • The giant Freeling will be blocking for the diminutive Bryce Young in Carolina. The Panthers offensive line in 2025 were graded by PFF as the league’s 17th best pass blocking unit. Freeling (6’7/315) enters the 2026 NFL Draft as one of the most physically gifted offensive linemen in the class, boasting rare movement skills and length for the position. The Bulldogs tackle brings a prototype frame at roughly 6-7, 315 pounds with nearly 35-inch arms, pairing that length with elite athletic traits highlighted by a freakish 9.99 Relative Athletic Score, including a 4.93s forty, 33.5-inch vertical and 9’7” broad jump. Freeling’s athleticism shows up consistently on tape, showing advanced movement capabilities in space, executing reach blocks, lead assignments and screen duties while displaying the quick feet to mirror edge rushers in pass protection. After a developmental sophomore season, Freeling made a major leap in 2025, posting an 86.1 PFF pass-blocking grade while allowing just two sacks and eight total pressures across 469 pass-blocking snaps. His length, quick redirect ability and fluidity passing off twists make him particularly effective against speed rushers and stunts. However, Freeling can struggle to maintain leverage and hand placement at times, with inconsistent run-blocking landmarks and occasional balance issues when he leans into contact.
  • CAR Wide Receiver #4
McMillan was a DNP on Wednesday but was upgraded to a full participant on Thursday and Friday. The rookie receiver is officially off the injury report and good to go for Sunday’s pivotal Week 16 matchup against the Bucs. McMillan profiles as a low-end WR2 after failing to top 43 yards for three straight weeks. The Panthers also listed OG Damien Lewis, CB Jaycee Horn, and OT Taylor Moton as good to go for Sunday’s game.
  • CAR Defensive Tackle #99
Wharton was added to the injury report on Saturday. Panthers DT Bobby Brown is expected to start in his stead. Wharton has 23 tackles, 17 quarterback pressures and two sacks this season. The defense will have No. 1 CB Jaycee Horn on the field, though. Horn missed Week 13 after suffering a concussion in Week 12. The Panthers were on bye in Week 14.
  • CAR Cornerback #8
Horn was injured in Week 12 and missed the Panthers’ Week 13 game against the Rams. The star corner was able to practice throughout this week and has now been cleared in time to take on Tyler Shough and the Saints in a game that could further push the Panthers’ lead in the NFC South. Horn has totaled 25 tackles this season along with a career-high five interceptions and will be a full-go for Sunday.
  • CAR Cornerback #8
It seems likely that he’ll clear concussion protocol and play against the Saints in Week 15 after upgrading from a limited session on Wednesday. LB Claudin Cherelus (concussion) also upgraded to a full practice today and figures to be available as well.
  • CAR Cornerback #8
This is a step in the right direction for Horn. The Panthers’ No. 1 cornerback has been inactive on game day since suffering a concussion in Week 12. He has a chance to return for his team’s game against the division-rival Saints this week. Panthers LB Claudin Cherelus (concussion) was also limited today.
  • CAR Cornerback #8
Horn remains in the league’s concussion protocol, but he’s nearly two weeks removed from the brain injury he suffered in Week 12 against the 49ers. Horn has appeared in 12 games for the Panthers this season, totaling a career-high five interceptions while breaking up an additional six passes. The Panthers, who sit at 7-6 and are in the thick of a playoff hunt, will be in search of their eighth win in Week 15 against the Saints, and will get an added boost if Horn can return. In addition to Horn, Canales also said LB Claudin Cherelus (concussion) is trending toward a return.
  • CAR Cornerback #8
Half of these players, including Horn, were ruled out on Friday due to various injuries. Renfrow is a healthy scratch, which has been the norm for the veteran receiver who hasn’t seen the field since Week 6. Despite being the home team, the Panthers enter Week 13 as massive underdogs to the 9-2 Rams.

Alvin Kamara exited Tuesday’s scrimmage against the Cowboys with a knee injury.

The Saints are obviously going to take every necessary precaution, but it’s still a situation to monitor. The 31-year-old tailback is likely to have a reduced role after the club brought in Travis Etienne in free agency, but because of his ability as a pass-catcher, still has a chance to be a productive fantasy player. There should be further updates on Kamara’s knee soon.

Jaydon blue missed Tuesday’s scrimmage against the Saints due to a shoulder injury.

Blue was able to go for the preseason opener against the Seahawks on Saturday, but was held out of action for the combined practice. He’s attempting to win the backup tailback job and competing with Malik Davis for that honor.

Ronnie Bell was carted off during Tuesday’s scrimmage against the Cowboys with a heat-related issue.

Bell should be able to return to practice in the coming days. The 26-year-old is one of a handful of wideouts competing for the final spots in the Saints’ receiving room.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Nick Bosa (knee) is making progress.

Shanahan noted that the tendinitis that has been bothering Bosa has been “subsiding” over the past few days. The 28-year-old defender missed Tuesday’s scrimmage against the Chargers, but it sounds like he should be back in action in a relative short time.

Ronnie Bell left Tuesday’s scrimmage against the Cowboys with an apparent lower-body injury.

Free agent WR Chase Claypool worked out for the Saints on Tuesday.

He was joined by Josh Reynolds. The Saints are apparently looking to add to the depth of the room with the news that Jordyn Tyson will miss time early in the season with a hamstring injury. Claypool worked out for the Colts in late July and with the Packers in rookie minicamp. He’s trying to find another shot in the league.

Free agent CB Trevon Diggs worked out for the Seahawks on Tuesday.

Perhaps they’re looking for shorter-term help than Terrion Arnold is able to give them now that he’ll be on the commissioner’s exempt list if signed. Diggs worked out with the Lions earlier in August. He’s looking to find a new team after hitting free agency for the first time this offseason following a tumultuous ending with the Cowboys.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Quentin Johnston (undisclosed) is not expected to miss much, if any, practice time.

Johnston limped off at today’s 49ers-Chargers joint practice but it seems like this isn’t serious. A source told Schefter that Johnston was “totally fine.”

Colts CB Charvarius Ward (back) is sidelined indefinitely.

Ward was contemplating retirement this offseason due to a scary amount of documented concussions, but gave it a go at training camp only to wind up missing tons of time due to this back injury. The 30-year-old will start for the Colts if he’s healthy for Week 1, but that sounds like an open question at this time.

The Athletic’s James Boyd left DJ Giddens off his 53-man roster projection.

It’s been hard to find a good word from a beat on Giddens this offseason, so this isn’t an overly surprising conclusion to see listed out. He’s been sidelined for most of camp with a hamstring injury. The Colts look like they’ll keep Seth McGowan as their main backup to Jonathan Taylor. In this projection, Giddens loses the third running back spot to Ulysses Bentley IV.
