Bears WR Rome Odunze said his foot “feels amazing.”

Odunze caused concern earlier this offseason, saying his 2025 foot injury created “a different type of foot structure” and that he was learning to deal with the “new normal.” Speaking with ESPN’s Courtney Cronin today, Odunze said he articulated his prior comments poorly and that his foot issue is “not even really something that I think about anymore.” Sounds like he has successfully adjusted to the new normal, which is great to hear. Odunze is jockeying for position in the Bears’ target pecking order with TE Colston Loveland and WR Luther Burden this summer.

Odunze had 661 yards and six touchdowns last season over 12 regular season games before sustaining a foot injury that would linger into the postseason, when Odunze had four grabs over two playoff games. “This is my new normal,” Odunze said of the nagging foot injury. “And it’s not from a standpoint that I’m always in pain but the way my foot broke there’s callouses in there that, like, creates a different type of foot structure with those bones — different types of things that kind of shift things around.” Odunze added that the foot issue was not “going to prohibit me from making plays but I feel like with the break it’s just like when you tear your AC (shoulder joint) it’s never really back to normal.” The Bears, after trading DJ Moore to the Bills in the offseason, are hoping Odunze’s injury doesn’t flare up in 2026. He’ll likely be the team’s No. 2 wideout behind Luther Burden.

“It was rough, man. It was rough,” Odunze said. “I’m not going to sit here and say I can barely — you know, it is what it is. We play through injuries. It’s part of the game. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses about the foot, but something I was dealing with.” Odunze managed identical 2/44 lines in both Bears playoff games while playing through the foot injury. It’s great news that the injury won’t be a long-term concern for Odunze, who should be high in the Bears passing game pecking order again in 2026.

Despite making some obvious strides in his development in his second season, Odunze still has a way to go if he hopes to look like a player worthy of the No. 9 overall pick the Bears used to draft him in 2024. Were it not for five games missed due to injury, Odunze would likely have been looking at a career-year in 2025. Instead, his 44 receptions and 661 receiving yards both fell below his rookie line of 54-734-3 from last season. Depending on what happens with DJ Moore this offseason, Odunze could have a chance to see an increased role in 2026. Of course, he’ll also be battling with second-year players Luther Burden and Colston Loveland, who made notable strides of their own late in the season. Odunze will likely settle in somewhere as a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 in fantasy drafts next season, but could turn into a nice value if he’s able to take another step in his third season.

Despite the questionable listing, we expect Odunze to play on Sunday. This is the exact same pattern (limited, limited, full) that he had ahead of the Wild Card round — the only difference is that Odunze was cleared off the injury report altogether for that one. Odunze had a 2/44 game in his return against the Packers after missing Weeks 14-18 with the foot injury.

He practiced in full the Thursday ahead of Chicago’s Wild Card game against the Packers and we’re expecting this to be a similar situation. Odunze hasn’t exactly been as huge a part of the offense as he was earlier in the season since returning, but he should still be a key figure in Chicago’s passing game against the Rams.
  • CHI Wide Receiver #15
Odunze was a bit rusty last week, but he appears to have made it through the game without suffering a setback. The Bears face the Rams’ explosive offense in the Divisional Round on Sunday, which should result in a fantasy-friendly game script.

Odunze was unable to get the ball into the hands for most of the game despite a solid number of targets, but he came down with a massive 27-yard catch on 4th-and-8 to help the Bears complete the three-score comeback. This was Odunze’s first game since November 28, and it did appear there was some rust to shake off. The ultra-talented 2024 first-round pick will likely be a factor in the passing game next week against either the Eagles or Rams.

Odunze got in his first full practice on Friday and was removed from the injury report — his return figures to be key as the Bears try to take two of three games against the Packers. Chicago’s star receiver finished his season with a 44/661/6 line in 12 games and has not played since November 28. Lowered expectations make sense in a DFS setting, but the full practice gives us a little optimism.

Odunze has now logged three straight limited practices dating back to last week. Rest was prescribed as the fix for his stress fracture, but an aggravation occurred during pre-game warmups in Week 15, when he hurried back after taking just one week off. Odunze sat out of practices and games until he resumed practicing late last week. After practice today, Odunze told reporters he plans on “playing” against the Packers on Saturday.
  • CHI Wide Receiver #15
Odunze practiced on Friday of last week, and while this is not a sure sign he’ll be ready for Saturday’s game against the Packers, it’s certainly a promising start of the week. This is an estimation, so we’ll probably get better confirmation later. It is worth noting that Caleb Williams addressed a question about Odunze’s return as if it was going to happen — he’d know better than we would, of course.

Jakobi Meyers did not practice on Sunday.

Meyers was spotted with some sort of brace on his right hand at Friday’s preseason game against the Panthers, but we have not yet received word on what he’s dealing with. Hopefully we’ll get some answers from Liam Coen the next time he speaks to the media, but between what we saw on Friday and his absence on Sunday, it’s fair to wonder whether the veteran receiver is dealing with something that could cause him to miss some time. Meyers has reportedly had a nice camp in his first offseason with the Jaguars and is vying for WR2 duties this season.

Parker Washington (undisclosed) returned to practice on Sunday.

After missing last week due to an undisclosed issue, Washington was back on the field Sunday, participating in drills and working in seven-on-sevens. Whatever he was dealing with doesn’t appear to be anything too serious, which is a good sign for the fourth-year receiver who is looking to build on last year’s breakout campaign.

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said J.J. McCarthy got “banged up” in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Ravens.

McCarthy appeared on four for series, playing on 18 snaps while going 5-for-10 passing for 81 yards. According to KOC, he would have preferred to play McCarthy longer, but the third-year QB “was a little hobbled,” which led to the decision to pull him. O’Connell said he expects McCarthy to be fine and will look to provide an update soon, but given some of the hits he took from the Ravens on Saturday, this news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. McCarthy will get one more look this preseason in next week’s game against the Broncos if he’s able to go.

Cyrus Allen caught 3-of-5 targets for seven yards in the Chiefs’ preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday.

Allen saw action through the first three quarters of play. His 29 snaps were the third-most of any Chiefs receiver, while his 23 routes run were the second-most on the day. All three of his catches came in the short areas of the field, as evidenced by the -1.7 ADOT he averaged on his three receptions, per TruMedia. One of the most hyped players of this training camp season, the rookie fifth-rounder has a 5-27-0 receiving line on 10 targets in his two preseason games thus far.

Ty Simpson completed 8-of-12 passes for 73 yards in the Rams’ preseason win over the Saints on Saturday.

Simpson sat the entire first half of Saturday’s game and didn’t get on the field until midway through the third quarter, thanks to a long opening drive by the Saints after halftime that ended in a pick-six by the Rams’ defense that immediately gave the ball back to New Orleans. In the 34-0 win, Simpson wasn’t asked to do too much. He dropped back to pass on 14 of his 26 offensive snaps and stuck mostly to short completions, as only three of his attempts on the day traveled 10 or more air yards. Both Simpson and Stetson Bennett, who started this game, will see extensive work in next week’s game against the Chargers before the real games begin in Week 1 with the Rams playing “host” to the 49ers in Australia.

Jaydon Blue rushed 15 times for 75 yards in the Cowboys’ preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Blue led all Cowboys running backs in snaps, but played on just two snaps on the team’s opening drive of the game compared to Malik Davis’ 10. Davis would see just four snaps the rest of the way compared to Blue’s 24, but the second-year back made the most of his opportunities. Blue’s 75 rushing yards led all Cowboys players, with eight of his carries going for five or more yards. His usage, which extended into the third quarter, suggests Blue is battling with Phil Mafah and Israel Abanikanda for the RB3 role, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise after it was reported last week that Blue was the fourth player up in drills. It was a strong showing for Blue, who will need another convincing outing in the team’s preseason finale next week against the Saints.

Spencer Rattler completed 14-of-23 passes for 141 yards and one interception in Saturday’s preseason game against the Rams.

It was another tough day at the office for Rattler, who remains in a battle for the Saints’ QB2 job with Zach Wilson. After losing a fumble last week, Rattler drove the Saints all the way down the field to the Rams’ six-yard line this week, only to throw an interception to Alex Cook in the end zone that was returned 100 yards for a touchdown. Rattler tried to force a pass to tight end Treyton Welch through what nearly looked like quadruple coverage, only for Cook to jump the route and run untouched to the end zone. Zach Wilson, who made the start, didn’t fare much better, completing 6-of-12 passes for 55 yards and an interception. Both QBs should see plenty of work in the Saints’ preseason finale next week against the Cowboys.

Bucky Irving rushed three times for 14 yards in the Buccaneers’ preseason Week 2 game against the Chiefs.

The starting offense played two series consisting of eight plays before giving way to the second unit, wherein Irving saw a carry on the first three plays from scrimmage before Gainwell entered the game. Gainwell received his lone carry on the following play, with neither back seeing another opportunity before departing. Previous talk surrounding this backfield hinted at more of a “1A-1B” situation than what was seen in their first preseason action, widening the range of outcomes of Irving in a fantasy setting for the coming season. That leaves potential room for upside considering Irving’s No. 55 overall aggregate ADP across all platforms, particularly considering how much the coaching staff has talked up his receiving chops this offseason. Consider Irving an interesting upside bet in the fifth round.

Baker Mayfield completed 2-of-4 passes for 10 yards in the Buccaneers’ preseason Week 2 game against the Chiefs.

Mayfield played just two series and was without his top four receivers, with only Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell joining him as presumed regular starters. Even so, the offense was hardly able to showcase its upside against backup members of the Kansas City defense. Whether Mayfield and the rest of the starters play in the team’s final preseason game next week remains to be seen, but there appears to be significant room for improvement before they kick off the regular season against the Bengals in three weeks.

49ers RB Jordan James (ribs) returned to practice Saturday.

James missed almost a month of camp and preseason activity after suffering a fractured rib in late July, with his appearance at practice Saturday marking his first time in pads since 29 July. He returns to a backfield currently missing All-World running back Christian McCaffrey and will join Kaelon Black in a battle for primary backup duties until games begin to count in three weeks.
