Jaguars RB Chris Rodriguez was the team’s primary running back inside the 10-yard line at Friday’s scrimmage.

Rodriguez got some snaps between the 20s as well, rotating in behind RB Bhayshul Tuten. Per Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley, Rodriguez “got most, if not all, of the goal-line type reps.” In a separate article, Shipley notes that the Jaguars’ running back usage at last year’s scrimmage did not carry over into the regular season, and said it would be “dangerous to use the scrimmage as a data point.” The Jaguars have been easing Rodriguez back into action in recent weeks, following foot surgery. We suppose it is possible that they were just giving him an extended look in this situation. Regardless, at 5'11/224, Rodriguez has the prototypical size for this type of role. Tracking his practice and preseason usage will be worthwhile.
Johnson praises Bears' electric run game in win
Ben Johnson said he was 'proud' of how the Bears battled the heat in their 59-37 win over the Panthers and praised D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai for their combined 224 rushing yards and four TDs.

Rodriguez was the Jaguars’ second running back in the game, but equaled Bhayshul Tuten’s touches on the first drive. He was used both in the red zone and short-yardage situations early on; Rodriguez tied for the lead in backfield snaps in the first half. The game was out of reach in the second half, with Ameer Abdullah taking on garbage time carries and Rodriguez finishing the game second in backfield snaps. Fantasy managers will like the high-leverage utilization but a lack of receiving upside caps Rodriguez’ ceiling. He is firmly in the RB4 range for Week 2 against the Broncos.

As expected, Allen did not practice Wednesday. It’s not that fantasy managers were eager to start Allen this week, but his absence would open up more routes and potential targets for Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez, who are listed as co-starters on Jacksonville’s Week 1 depth chart. Both C-Rod and Tuten would be slightly better options if Allen is sidelined this weekend.

Shipley hedges a bit by noting that there’s a chance that one back simply carries the momentum early in the season forward and never lets up, but ultimately falls on the idea that neither back is likely to hit 1,000 rushing yards in 2026. “I think there is a more likely chance we see both running backs hit 750+ yards than one of them hit 1,000,” Shipley writes. Such a split would probably lean towards Rodriguez at the goal line, making him slightly more fantasy-valuable on a weekly basis barring big plays from Tuten. If this prediction comes true, both backs might have trouble cracking the weekly RB2 ranks.

Coen talked up Ameer Abdullah as a potential replacement for Allen’s duties in pass protection. He also singled out Chris Rodriguez’s abilities in pass pro. Pass protection duties aren’t a direct source of fantasy value, but it usually means that player will be on the field for the two-minute drill, which can generate plenty of receptions for running backs. Bhayshul Tuten not getting those reps would be a notable ding to his fantasy outlook. Allen himself isn’t on the fantasy radar, healthy or not.

Allen suffered a soft tissue injury during Monday’s practice and the Jaguars announced Tuesday morning that he’ll miss the rest of training camp. It’s unclear if he’ll be ready for the start of the regular season. While Allen doesn’t have standalone fantasy value, he seemed destined for a legitimate role as the primary receiving back in this offense. If Allen misses time in the regular season, it would boost receiving opportunities for Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez.

Coen discussed both RB Bhayshul Tuten and RB Chris Rodriguez during his presser. Regarding Tuten, Coen said the second-year back has shown that he has “bought in” over the past year, and complimented his ability to take “hard coaching” while noting his 4.28-second 40 speed. Coen adds that Tuten has to continue working on making his reads and not overthinking things. Regarding Rodriguez, Coen complimented his recent downhill running and blitz pickups. Coen loves consistency at the running back position. This looks like it will be a committee to start the year. That said, if one player separates, things can change quickly. Tuten remains the high-upside pick, although Rodriguez can be productive in his own right.

Despite Tuten impressing in training camp per all eyes on the ground and Rodriguez being sidelined for most of the offseason with a foot injury, it remains a split backfield. That’s not a particularly auspicious sign for Tuten, though we imagine this will be a hot hand backfield and probably split in a way where no one actually leaves happy anyway with LeQuint Allen also siphoning third-down plays. The Jaguars have said they’re not playing their starters in the preseason, so this may remain a murky situation through the end of draft season.

This admittedly isn’t much of an update, but it is something. Rodriguez took his first two reps in team drills at the Jaguars’ fourth training camp practice on Sunday. He took one handoff from QB Nick Mullens and one from starting QB Trevor Lawrence. Rodriguez’s return from foot surgery has been slow going. The Jaguars will host their first padded practice tomorrow. Upgrading to two team-drill reps does not suggest Rodriguez is ready for contact, but we’ll find out soon enough. For now, RB Bhayshul Tuten has the inside track to the starting job.

Shipley acknowledges that he keeps writing about how good Tuten has looked, but he reasonably counters that he can only report what he’s seeing. Evidently, he’s seeing Tuten “building a lot of momentum” while RB Chris Rodriguez (foot) is stuck in individual drills. Drafting players in ambiguous backfields has been an established, sharp strategy for years now. Although this bunch could be losing its ambiguity a tad, Tuten’s Rounds 5-6 best ball ADP could still end up being a bargain.
  • JAC Running Back
That timeline his far more ambiguous than we had previously thought, even though Rodriguez is currently participating in individual drills at training camp. Head coach Liam Coen later added, “We’re trying to get him back without any sort of hiccups or bumps.” It sounds like workload management more so than any risk of Rodriguez actually missing the Jags’ opener. Still, needing your training camps managed because of an offseason foot procedure isn’t ideal. With some lingering concerns around this foot issue, Bhayshul Tuten is pulling away as the clear favorite to lead the Jags in carries this year.

Justin Jefferson caught 8-of-9 targets for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ Week 2 win over the Packers.

Kyler Murray left in the first quarter with a head injury, but even Carson Wentz is good enough to keep the fantasy points flowing for Jefferson. Wentz found his star receiver on a deep end zone shot late in the second quarter and put the final nail in the coffin with a nine-yard strike to Jettas late in the fourth. Jefferson has now matched his 2025 touchdown total. Even with Wentz likely under center for Week 2, Jefferson will remain near the top of the WR1 conversation versus the Bears.

Cade Otton caught 3-of-5 targets for 26 yards in the Bucs’ Week 1 loss to the Bengals.

This is about a standard Otton statline, though this one came on a day where Baker Mayfield attempted fewer than 30 passes. With Jalen McMillan sidelined, Otton probably would have exceeded five catches had the Bucs not kept killing drives with sacks and turnovers, alas. Otton is always good for a few PPR points on the back end of the TE2 ranks, but that appears to be his ceiling heading in to his age-27 campaign.

Ashton Jeanty rushed 23 times for 102 yards in the Raiders’ Week 1 win over the Dolphins, adding six receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns.

Any lingering concerns over Jeanty’s ankle injury can be put to rest. The second-year running back served as the Raiders’ offensive focal point from start to finish, regularly shaking defenders and plowing through contact. Jeanty scored two touchdowns on routes run out of the backfield, beating Dolphins rookie CB Chris Johnson with a cut on the first and barreling through a would-be tackler as he entered the end zone on the second. His six catches tie for a team-high. Jeanty is a locked-in RB1 against the Chargers next week.

Omarion Hampton had 12 rushes for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ Week 1 loss against the Cardinals.

Hampton got away with it thanks to a first half touchdown plunge before the LA offense imploded following Ladd McConkey’s chest injury. Hampton was not targeted on 17 pass routes while Keaton Mitchell saw one target on 13 routes. Mitchell had four rushes on the day. Mike McDaniel’s offense collapsed immediately after the Bolts marches downfield on their first drive of the game, making it hard to tell exactly how Hampton (and Mitchell) will be used in neutral game script. That the Chargers were dominated by the Cardinals could be a bad sign for everyone in the Chargers offense, including Hampton. He’ll be a top-20 option next week against the Raiders.

Jordan Love completed 21-of-42 passes for 387 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Packers’ 22-39, Week 1 loss to the Vikings.

With Kyler Murray exiting this game early, the Packers appeared to be coasting to an easy win until the fourth quarter. Minnesota, however, slowly mounted a comeback that coincided with Love melting down. It started with a fumble that Minnesota took back to the one-yard line. Love got the ball back after a Jordan Mason touchdown and was immediately intercepted on his own side of the field, extinguishing any hope of a rebuttal from the Packers. Some garbage time production turned this into a strong fantasy outing from Love, but he will need to clear things up ahead of Week 2. Love will be in the QB2 mix versus the Jets.

Ted Hurst caught 3-of-3 targets for 36 yards in the Bucs’ Week 1 loss to the Bengals.

Hurst’s first NFL reception was a sure-handed grab against tight coverage as he went to the ground. Pro Football Focus charted Hurst as playing 43-of-57 snaps. That’s an extremely strong mark for a rookie third-rounder, though it will only last as long as Jalen McMillan is on the shelf with his knee injury. The Bucs declined to formally rule McMillan out until this morning, so there is a chance he is back for Week 2 against the Browns. For now, Hurst remains waiver wire fodder in 12-team leagues.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reports that Jets WR Omar Cooper is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1 against the Titans.

Pelissero also reported that Cooper will undergo an MRI to further assess the injury on Monday, confirming NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport’s report from earlier this evening. Cooper could be looking at a multi-week absence, but only time will tell. Hopefully, it is just a mild injury.
