Allen handles RB2 duties, delivers 31-yard TD

Rosenblatt led his breakdown by noting that Davis and Braelon Allen will both get snaps, so there isn’t likely to be a clear winner behind Breece Hall. Allen missed most of the 2025 season with a knee injury. In his absence, the Jets leaned on Davis as a pass-catcher to give Hall the occasional breather. He was targeted 28 times and brought down 21 of them for 186 yards. Davis has also been effective between the tackles, averaging 5.6 yards per carry through two seasons compared to 3.7 for Allen. The Jets’ backup job could have some appeal in deeper fantasy leagues, but it sounds like fantasy managers will want to get more info from training camp before placing their bets.

Glenn reportedly wanted to use his backfield in a similar fashion last season before Allen went down in Week 4, according to an article published by ESPN. This would be potentially brutal news for fantasy managers eyeing Breece Hall in drafts, although it is worth pointing out that in the three complete games both Hall and Allen played together, Hall appeared on 59 percent of the team’s snaps while Allen played on 29 percent of snaps, and Davis just 15 percent. Hall also had 51 total opportunities over that span, while Allen and Davis combined for 22 opportunities. Time will tell if Glenn and offensive coordinator Frank Reich really do lean into this “three-headed monster” idea, but it’s hard to imagine Hall, who recently signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract, losing enough work to be forced out of the mix as a fringe RB1/RB2 given his three-down skillset. That said, both Allen and Davis could serve as viable late-round handcuffs for Hall should he ever miss time.

Despite adding 15 pounds since entering the NFL, Allen said this is the lowest his body fat percentage has ever been. Allen missed most of the 2025 season with a knee injury that eventually required surgery. At this point, it sounds like his recovery is complete. Head coach Aaron Glenn talked up his potential in the passing game, though he said that he views Breece Hall, Allen, and Isaiah Davis as a “three-headed monster.” Allen could have some minor stand-alone value as a short-yardage back this year, but the presence of Davis will likely prevent him from making much of an impact on the redraft fantasy landscape.

Allen suffered a knee injury in Week 4 of last season, which was classified as “pretty serious” by head coach Aaron Glenn at the time. Despite the team’s hope that Allen could return at some point in the season, the injury proved to be season-ending and required surgery to correct. Allen saw 21 opportunities in the four games he appeared in for the Jets last season and rushed for 92-334-2 as a rookie in 2024. While he figures to earn the RB2 role behind Breece Hall for this season, we wouldn’t expect Allen to have much standalone value as long as Hall is healthy.

Graziano adds that “a couple of weeks ago,” he expected the Jets “to deal Hall just to get something in return before he left as a free agent” at the end of the season. Hall’s standout showing in Week 8 may have changed minds inside the Jets’ front office. Per Graziano, “there are people in the Jets building who are leery of the idea of trading Hall, who showed Sunday that he can still be a dynamic threat and a key element of their offense.” Jets No. 2 RB Braelon Allen (knee) remains on injured reserve. Jettisoning Hall would leave them only with the albeit intriguing backup RB Isaiah Davis. If the Jets continue using Hall like they did last week, he can consistently return RB1 value down the line this season. Of course, Graziano adds that “if a team gives the Jets a strong enough offer for Hall, they would probably take it.”

In a linked article, Fowler identifies the Chargers, Chiefs and Texans as the best fits for Jets RB Breece Hall and puts Hall’s odds of being traded at 35.0 percent, for what that’s worth. The 24-year-old running back is scheduled to enter free agency at the end of the year, and the Jets currently have RB Braelon Allen (knee, injured reserve) and RB Isaiah Davis under contract through 2027. Davis can be stashed, speculatively, at this time. Acquiring draft picks in exchange for Hall makes sense from a team-building perspective. Should he land with the Chargers or Chiefs, Hall’s fantasy-scoring ceiling could rise considerably, operating as a featured player in a high-scoring offense. Things could become complicated upon Chargers RB Omarion Hampton’s (ankle) return from injured reserve in the former scenario. Hall would undoubtedly become the Texans’ lead running back but the positional rotation gets a bit murkier. The ESPN reporters also list EDGE Jermaine Johnson and CB Michael Carter II also potential trade candidates.

An eight-week absence would put Allen on course for a return around Week 12 or 13. A 12-week absence would put Allen more in the Week 15 or 16 range. Regardless, it’s the long-term absence many feared after the team went and placed Allen on injured reserve earlier in the week, and also floated around the possibility of surgery for the second-year back. Glenn reiterated on Friday that the option of surgery remains on the table. The Jets already signed Khaili Herbert as added depth for their backfield, but Isaiah Davis will get the first crack at backing up Breece Hall, and is worth a stash wherever still available.

Allen’s injury continues to sound worse with every subsequent report. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, surgery remains a possibility and it’s “too early to say if it’s season-ending.” Allen is required to miss at least four weeks while on injured reserve, but we expect him to be out much longer than a month. His absence will increase Breece Hall’s role in short-yardage situations, meaning more opportunities for him at the goal line. Allen has six red zone carries this year to Hall’s three. Isaiah Davis is now in line to back up Hall going forward.

Allen picked up the knee injury on a kick return in Week 4 against the Dolphins. Glenn said Allen is seeking secondary medical opinions on the injury before the team makes a decision on how much time he’ll miss. If it’s a season ending injury, Breece Hall should see a bump in weekly touches and perhaps goal line usage. Isaiah Davis, meanwhile, would likely operate as the Jets’ No. 2 back and should be rostered in 12-team leagues. Davis had five touches for 28 yards in Week 4 with Allen sidelined for much of the contest.

Isaiah Davis will likely absorb some snaps, but this should be great news for Breece Hall-reliant managers as Allen’s goal-line/early-down role would seem to fit Hall much better than Davis. Allen is still looking at different opinions on the injury, meaning we’ll probably get an update with a firm timetable when he’s actually placed on injured reserve. For the next few weeks at least, though, Hall is likely to get an uptick in usage that should put him in a good place to showcase his skills ahead of the trade deadline.
