Giants signed EDGE Malik Harrison, formerly of the Steelers, to the practice squad.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Harrison agreed to the deal “with the goal to contribute early.” The pass rusher totaled 28 tackles and seven quarterback pressures last year with the Steelers.

The move frees up $4.75 million in cap space. Harrison was an evidently unsuccessful 2025 free agent poach from arch-rival Baltimore. He made 11 2025 appearances, including nine starts, but registered zero sacks. Now 28 years old, Harrison’s experience could nevertheless earn him some looks on the workout circuit.

Austin has not yet returned to practice after injuring his shoulder in the Steelers’ Week 4 game against the Vikings. The team had a Week 5 bye and declined to put Austin on short-term injured reserve, which would have required him to sit out until Week 10. The Steelers face the Bengals on Thursday Night Football this week. The short week undoubtedly hurt Austin’s chances of returning in time. The Steelers also ruled out S Miles Killebrew (knee) and listed S DeShon Elliott (personal) and LB Malik Harrison (knee) as questionable. Elliott missed Weeks 3-4 with a knee injury.
  • PIT Linebacker #40
The longtime Raven heads to the division-rival Steelers on a $10 million contract. Seemingly an excellent fit in the 3-4 defensive scheme in Pittsburgh, he’ll likely remain in more of a rotational role with the Steelers considering their depth at the position. Harrison has not played more than 438 defensive snaps in a season and has been used primarily as a run defender by Baltimore. He likely replaces Elandon Roberts for the Steelers.
  • BAL Linebacker #40
Harrison played a complementary role for the stacked Ravens interior defense in 2023, doing enough through sub-packages to warrant a return to the team in 2024. The four-year veteran has started 27 games in 61 appearances for the Ravens while on his rookie contract but could carve out a more robust role with the departures of Patrick Queen and Kyle Van Noy this offseason. The details of the contract have yet to be reported.

Harrison ended up missing three games after he was struck by a stray bullet during a visit to his hometown during the Ravens’ Week 8 bye. The 2020 third-rounder was playing a ton of snaps before going down, but not effective ones. The Ravens haven’t really figured anything out during Harrison’s absence, so he should immediately re-join the rotation on Sunday against the Browns.

Harrison was struck by a stray bullet while attending a gathering in Cleveland on Monday. Harrison, an Ohio native, was home during the Ravens’ bye week when the incident occurred but the team announced that the injury was not life-threatening. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he doesn’t believe the injury is severe so Harrison should be back on the field soon. Harrison has 22 combined tackles and a pair of TFLs as a rotational player for the Baltimore defense this year.

Elliott is one of seven “close contacts” of COVID-positive Marlon Humphrey who must miss this week’s practices and quarantine. The other six are: LB Matthew Judon, LB Patrick Queen, LB L.J. Fort, LB Malik Harrison, CB Terrell Bonds and LB Tyus Bowser. Presuming they all keep returning negative tests, all seven players will be eligible to suit up for Sunday’s game against the Colts. An every-down player his third year in the league, Elliott has been providing strong snaps at the back end of the Ravens’ defense.

Harrison (6’3/247) was a two-year starting linebacker at Ohio State who earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior. Especially for someone of his size, he showed above-average straight-line athleticism, particularly in zone coverage where he could run and chase. In man coverage, his sub-par agility was occasionally exposed, so he may be scheme-dependent in the NFL. He’s a physical player with nice vision against the run. He led the Buckeyes in tackles and was used as a spy. Harrison’s 72nd percentile Adjusted SPARQ athleticism and above-average production (75 tackles, 16.5 TFLs) are enough to bet on him as an NFL starter who will be at his best in zone and against the run. Harrison and first-rounder Patrick Queen could easily start Week 1 inside for the Ravens.

Baker Mayfield (thumb) did not practice Thursday.

Mayfield will be ruled out for Week 6 tomorrow. Having not thrown a football since his Week 3 thumb injury, he’s also unlikely to suit up for next week’s game against the Panthers. Jalon Daniels will draw at least one more start versus the Steelers this week. His rushing production will keep him in the QB2 ranks for Sunday’s game, but a lack of passing numbers makes him a weak fantasy option.

Sean Tucker (qaud) returned to practice Thursday.

Tucker missed Wednesday’s session with a quad issue. He previously missed one game due to a hamstring injury. Tucker should be good to go for Week 6, though we don’t expect much fantasy production from the Bucs’ RB3. He has eight carries and zero catches over the past two weeks.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Giants coach John Harbaugh hinted that the Giants have “more in store for the J.J. McCarthy package.”

Who is asking for this? McCarthy was on the field for three plays in Week 5. They gained three yards, two of which came from McCarthy on a pair of rush attempts. After flaming out as a traditional quarterback in Minnesota, McCarthy is working his way toward becoming the next Taysom Hill. Jameis Winston remains the starter, but Harbaugh will use McCarthy as a change-of-pace option a few times each week. He could also take over as the starter if Winston struggles for an extended period of time, though we appear to be at least a few weeks away from that being a consideration.

The Athletic’s James Boyd reports Alec Pierce (heel) is no longer wearing a cast but is not close to a return.

Boyd said he “didn’t get the sense” that Pierce is close to a return. Pierce went on injured reserve with a heel injury after Week 2 and wore a cast on his left ankle/heel while rehabbing. It’s a sign of progress for Pierce, who will have his first chance to come back in the Colts’ Week 7 game against the Vikings.

Davis Allen (foot) did not practice Wednesday.

Allen is dealing with a foot injury and is listed as a DNP on the Rams’ estimated practice report. Fellow tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder) was listed as limited, though he has been dealing with the shoulder injury for a few weeks now and the Rams are likely managing his workload. Parkinson is trending to play. Allen’s potential absence may lead to the Rams activating rookie Max Klare to play alongside Parkinson and fantasy streaming option Tyler Higbee in Week 6.

Ashton Jeanty (foot) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Jeanty’s previous ankle designation was removed from the injury report and he was a full practice participant on Wednesday. His practice participation lines up with Raiders coach Klint Kubiak saying the 22-year-old running back was starting to “feel a lot better.” Though there were rumors of the Raiders resting Jeanty for a week, he is trending to play in Week 6 against the Bills.

Jalen Nailor (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.

Nailor suffered a concussion in the Raiders’ Week 4 loss to the Chiefs, missing Week 5 against the Patriots while still in the protocol. He starts out the week not practicing, indicating he is not close to clearing protocol. Though he still has a chance to play this week, Nailor does not need to be stashed for fantasy purposes amid a murky wide receiver corps.

Brock Bowers (knee) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Bowers continues his trend of practicing limited to open the week before upgrading to a full practice later in the week and getting cleared off the injury report. Fantasy managers can again expect to see Bowers return top-five fantasy tight end value in Week 6 against the Bills.

Ed Oliver (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Oliver was listed as a non-participant in the Bills’ Wednesday walk-through report. He suffered a knee injury in the Bills’ Week 4 loss to the Patriots and avoided long-term injury, though he has yet to see the practice field. Bills fans should stay tuned to his practice status the rest of the week; Oliver will need some level of participation before the Bills can consider making him active for Week 6.

DJ Moore (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday.

Moore aggravated a shoulder injury in Week 4 and only practiced with a non-contact jersey on Saturday of last week. After missing Week 5, Moore starts out as a non-practice participant in the Bills’ Wednesday walk-through. He will need at least a limited practice before fantasy managers can start considering him for Week 6 lineups.
