49ers DT Alfred Collins suffered a torn patellar tendon and is out for the 2026 season.

Collins tore his patellar tendon during the 49ers’ first Australia practice last night. It’s an unfortunate break for the 2025 second-round pick, set to start Week 1 for the 49ers defensive line against the Rams. Collins’ biggest play last season was forcing a goal-line Kyren Williams fumble in Week 5. He will instead need knee surgery and begin a journey back from injury for 2027. The 49ers will reach into their defensive tackle depth and may activate Kevin Givens or Sebastian Valdez from the practice squad for Week 1 in Australia against the Rams.

Speaking to the media Saturday, 49ers general manager John Lynch said that Kittle, Alfred Collins, and Isaac Guerendo will be moved to the PUP list ahead of the start of camp but that he is “optimistic on all of them hitting the practice field sooner than later.” As a reminder, players can be moved from the PUP list at any point during camp, meaning the fact that they currently find themselves with that designation does not mean they will miss anything meaningful to their fantasy value in 2026.

The 49ers also listed LB Tatum Bethune (thigh), DL Alfred Collins (hip), DL Kalia Davis (ankle) and DL Keion White (groin) as questionable and are expected to place DL Mykel Williams (knee) on injured reserve. Williams’ expected injured reserve placement, after suffering a torn ACL, will make him the fourth San Francisco pass rusher to be moved there this season. Williams’ 19 quarterback pressures rank second on the team. 49ers LB Fred Warner was placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending dislocated ankle injury in Week 6, yet Warner still accounts for the team’s second-highest tackle total (39). Winters leads the way with 53. Rams QB Matthew Stafford should have comfortable pockets this weekend, and RB Kyren Williams could have fairly easy sledding on runs up the middle, 49ers’ questionable statuses pending.

DT Alfred Collins (sprained knee) also was hurt in Thursday’s latest injury game for the 49ers, though it’s not known if he’ll miss time. The 49ers have been as banged up as any team in the league besides the Ravens the last four weeks.

Collins signing is notable as the 2025 second-round picks have been in a stand-off from signing due to disputes over contract guarantees. ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes that the 49ers signing their No. 43 overall pick “is expected to trigger multiple second-round signings.” Collins gets a four-year, $10.3 million deal that includes over $9 million guaranteed; 88 percent of his deal is guaranteed, a jump from last year’s No. 43 pick. Houston’s Jayden Higgins and Cleveland’s Carson Schwesinger signed fully-guaranteed deals that kept this year’s second-rounders in a holding pattern.
  • SF Defensive Tackle
The 49ers continue to build the trenches back out, as Collins (6'6/322) is the second defensive lineman in as many picks. Returning DC Robert Saleh’s influence is already being felt. A former five-star recruit, Collins was used primarily as an early down plugger for his first four years on campus. Despite his mammoth size he lined up as a starter in the B-gap last year and thrived recording 27 stops, a microscopic 3% missed tackle rate and a pristine 87.2 defensive grade. The Second Team All-American graded out in the 79th percentile against true pass sets with a decent 6.9% pass rush win rate, so he has utility in both phases. Collins has a tantalizing combination of height/weight with 34 3/4th” arms and the raw strength that goes along with it. While his edge days are likely behind him, Collins still retains a jarring club/swim combo move that he wins with 24.1% of the time. Though he is now a massive 332 pounds, he still possesses advanced agility and quickness that made him an effective five tech. Being a taller player, he can get stuck on blocks when his pad level elevates and he sometimes lacks explosiveness off the snap. Collins has the raw-boned, well-proportioned frame that NFL organizations covet in a developmental IDL prospect.

Epenesa was one of the highest-recruited commits to the Hawkeyes back in 2017; ranking 30th overall and getting a five-star designation from Rivals. Collins isn’t a five-star player, but he was considered one of the top defensive ends, and Farrell and Gorney acknowledge they have similar skill sets. “Epenesa was a powerful end coming out of high school who could beat you inside or outside and had great balance,” writes Farrell. “Collins could have a similar career at Texas.” The Longhorns probably wouldn’t complain.

  • SF Defensive Lineman #95
Collins (6'5/275) opting in with Texas is not only a real coup for the Longhorns on its face, it also has the added benefit of keeping the Bastrop, Texas, native out of Oklahoma’s clutches. The Sooners were in this race right down to the wire. Collins has position versatility along the defensive line and comes equipped with a huge motor. He has work to do in shoring up a number of technical fronts, but the talent and upside, here, is on the money. The 247Sports composite board ranks Collins as the No. 62 overall prospect in the 2020 class.
  • SF Defensive Lineman #95
Collins (6'5/275) is down to OU, Baylor, Texas and Alabama. Spiegelman notes that in addition to the Sooners, the Bears likewise are trending in the right direction, here. The Bastrop, Texas, native tentatively plans on taking unofficial visits to all four of his finalists in January. Rivals ranks Collins as the No. 150 overall prospect in the 2020 class.
  • SF Defensive Lineman #95
Collins (6'5/275) is a key recruit for Texas, as the program has lost multiple verbal pledges this fall including DE Prince Umanmielen. The four-star defensive end from Bastrop, Texas is also said to be considering Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, so at this point it appears safe to assume that he’ll be playing his college football in either the Big 12 or SEC. LSU is the only school in the list that Collins has yet to visit, with Texas A&M and Texas hosting him in mid-October.

Malik Willis completed 9-of-17 passes for 85 yards in the Dolphins’ 10-15, Week 4 loss to the Vikings, adding two rushes for 11 yards and one fumble lost.

Willis’ biggest plays of the day are the ones that didn’t count. Willis rolled out of the pocket, escaping pressure, on the Dolphins’ third drive and hit Chris Bell downfield for what could have been a 68-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, the officials determined that the tiniest edge of Bell’s right cleat grazed the sideline pre-catch, during the scramble drill, negating the play altogether. Heartbreaking. Willis also had a 10-yard scramble called back due to holding on the Dolphins’ fifth drive. He attempted a running fadeaway pass 25 yards downfield to Bell on 3rd-and-8 on the Dolphins’ ninth drive, but the catch was contested and ultimately fell incomplete. He is a QB2 against the Bengals next week.

Travis Kelce caught 2-of-4 targets for 15 yards in the Chiefs’ Week 4 win over the Raiders.

Kelce was held in check throughout the entirety of this one and has been targeted just six times in his last two games. Were it not for an 11-yard score in last week’s win over the Dolphins, we would be looking at back-to-back disappointing fantasy weeks for the future Hall of Famer. Kelce and the Chiefs are now heading into their bye week. He could see an increase in targets with Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) both at risk of missing multiple weeks, but Kelce now has three games on his 2026 ledger with five or fewer targets.

Marvin Mims caught 1-of-3 targets for ten yards in the Broncos’ Week 4 loss to the 49ers.

Mims also lost a fumble in the loss. Mims has been virtually invisible in the Broncos offense through four games, though that could change if Pat Bryant’s injury proves to be the long-term variety. Even in that case Mims would be nothing more than an ultra deep league option.

Courtland Sutton caught 1-of-6 targets for four yards in the Broncos’ Week 4 loss to the 49ers.

Sutton was the recipient of a couple off-target intermediate looks from Bo Nix, who struggled to place the ball against the 49ers secondary. Sutton could see an expanded role in the Denver offense if Pat Bryant is out long term following his leg injury in Week 4. Sutton has been targeted on 16 percent of his pass routes this season; he has nine receptions through four games. Sutton should only be rostered in deeper leagues.

Xavier Worthy caught 4-of-7 targets for 70 yards in the Chiefs’ Week 4 win over the Raiders.

Worthy saw a season-high seven targets in this one after Rashee Rice (hamstring) exited just a few plays into the game. Worthy came up with a handful of key plays for the Chiefs, with his biggest coming on a 41-yard reception that put the Chiefs in position for a short touchdown pass to Tyquan Thornton a few plays later. The Chiefs now head into their Week 5 bye, but they could be down multiple receivers, with Rice and Thornton (ankle) both suffering injuries in this one. While we don’t yet know the extent of Rice’s injury, Thornton’s ankle injury looked like a potential season-ender. Worthy could well be worth a stash in leagues where he is still available, as he could soon be the top receiver for the Chiefs when they return in Week 6 to face the Chiefs. Second-year receiver Jalen Royals, who ran 21 routes in this game, could also see an expanded role in the coming weeks.

Demond Claiborne rushed three times for 12 yards in the Vikings’ Week 4 win over the Dolphins.

Claiborne was given chances to contribute on the Vikings’ seventh and 10th drives. The rookie was unable to maximize his touches and had a catch behind the line of scrimmage that he took back to the line, negated by a holding penalty. Claiborne’s best play was an eight-yard run off the right tackle. That said, he out-touched DeeJay Dallas, who bagged only a 10-yard checkdown on the opening drive.

Tre Tucker caught 4-of-8 targets for 44 yards in the Raiders’ Week 4 loss to the Chiefs.

Tucker’s longest catch came on a 23-yard reception late in the fourth quarter as the Raiders looked to drive and tie up the game. Had the replay officials called for a review of the play in time, the catch likely would have been overturned, but the play was upheld, much to the disappointment of the Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid. The eight targets Tucker saw in this one set a new season high. He’s totaled 44 or fewer yards in three of four games this season and will be hard to trust as anything more than a dart-throw WR4 in Week 5 against the Patriots.

Mike Evans caught 5-of-8 targets for 76 yards in the 49ers’ Week 4 win against the Broncos.

Evans toughed it out through a painful rib injury. He endured a couple shots to the midsection in the first half and remained in the game, eventually leading the Niners in targets and receiving yards. Accounting for 31 percent of the team’s air yards coming into Week 4, Evans profiles as a high-upside WR2 in most formats. Evans and the rest of the 49ers have a tough Week 5 matchup against a Seahawks secondary that has smothered opposing passing offenses so far this season.

Mike Washington rushed nine times for 18 yards in the Raiders’ Week 4 loss to the Chiefs.

The Raiders have struggled on the ground for most of the season, and that didn’t change in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. Washington’s biggest gain came on an 11-yard run, as he averaged less than 1.0 YPC on his other eight carries. Washington remains the top Raiders back to hold in the event of an injury to Ashton Jeanty, but he has no stand alone fantasy value at this time.

Brock Purdy completed 19-of-30 attempts for 218 yards and two touchdowns in the 49ers’ Week 4 win against the Broncos, adding ten rushes for 29 yards.

Purdy’s ten rushing attempts were a season high, and the product of Denver’s secondary blanketing Niners pass catchers for much of the game. Injuries to both starting Broncos corners eventually loosened things up for Purdy and the 49ers. He connected with George Kittle on a fourth quarter screen pass that went for a 58-yard score — the biggest play of the game. Purdy, who now has 11 touchdown passes through four games, is a weekly top-10 fantasy play even on his less-than-efficient days. He gets a tough matchup against Seattle in Week 5.
