Josh Downs caught 2-of-4 targets for 37 yards in the Colts’ Week 1 loss to the Ravens.

Both of Downs’ catches came on the Colts’ opening drive. The fourth-year receiver looked explosive on his first reception when he turned a short catch into a 25-yard gain to move his team into Ravens territory, and he picked up another 12 yards through the air two plays later. Three of Downs’ four targets came on that drive, as he managed just one target the rest of the way. Downs’ drop-off after the opening possession largely stemmed from the Colts’ inability to move the ball. They averaged just 4.2 yards per play after that first drive and totaled only 107 passing yards over that span. The early targets were encouraging. Hopefully Downs will be in line for a better outing in Week 2 against the Chiefs. He shouldn’t be treated as anything more than a WR3 in next week’s game.

Downs was cagey when asked on Wednesday morning whether he had officially asked for his ticket out of Indianapolis, but Fowler maintains the wideout has requested the Colts trade him before the NFL’s trade deadline. That could very well happen in the coming days with the miserable Colts in fire sale mode, having dealt Quenton Nelson to Seattle and DeForest Buckner to the Niners. Downs, who has 26 receptions for 307 scoreless yards this season, would make sense as a trade target for the wideout-needy Chiefs, the Steelers, and perhaps the Seahawks.

Schefter listed out DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, and Downs as players that could potentially be on the move as the Colts continue what from all outside appearances looks to be a fire sale. He thinks Buckner will be the next player on the move and likely go for less than Quenton Nelson. Downs certainly hasn’t impressed with his opportunity this season, but he’s a valuable receiver and Indianapolis didn’t exactly but him in an ideal scenario with Alec Pierce hurt and Keenan Allen playing alongside him while Daniel Jones struggles to regain his 2025 form.

Downs’ four targets were the most on the team, though he caught just two for 18 yards. His lack of red zone usage and deep targets cap his ability to get explosive plays or touchdowns. He led all Colts wideouts with 52 snaps, tallying seven more than second-place Laquon Treadwell. Even with Tyler Warren (groin) out, Downs is losing middle-of-the-field targets to Keenan Allen. Given his low output with both Warren and Alec Pierce out, Downs is a low-ceiling WR4/FLEX play for Week 8 against the Jaguars.

Pierce, dealing with a heel injury since mid-September, will continue rehabbing and remain on injured reserve ahead of the Colts’ Week 7 game against the Vikings. Since Week 3, Keenan Allen leads the Colts with a 24 percent target share, while Josh Downs has 17 percent of the team’s targets and 26 percent of the team’s air yards. Neither wideout is a great option in Week 7 against a marauding Minnesota defense.

It was a rough fantasy day for Downs, who committed two terrible drops and was stopped at the one-inch line on his second quarter end-around. He was also the intended target on one of Daniel Jones’ two interceptions, though the miscue was Downs’ fault after he bobbled a ball up into the air. On top of everything, Downs also tweaked his shoulder. He did at least remain in the game. Just not looking up to the No. 1 receiver task as the Colts await Alec Pierce’s return, Downs is sadly maxing out as a low-ceiling WR3 option in fantasy leagues.
  • IND Wide Receiver #2
Given how Downs’ season is going, it’s hard to believe he’s going to do much with the extra runway, but Tyler Warren (groin) popping up on the report could shift more targets to Downs and Keenan Allen on Sunday against the Titans.
  • IND Wide Receiver #2
The good news is that it looks like Downs is trending towards getting off the injury report on Friday. The bad news is that it’s hard to make much more than a WR3 case for the receiver given how bogged down Indianapolis’ passing offense looks at the moment.

Typically, rest days are entirely inconsequential. Recently, the Colts listed Keenan Allen with a rest designation on Wednesday. He picked up a groin injury during the practice week, and although they added the groin injury to the injury report, they kept the rest designation on there as well. He didn’t play. Downs could end up being perfectly fine, but given the Colts’ recent handling of a similar situation, his participation levels on Thursday and Friday are worth monitoring.

The good news is that Downs ran a route on 44 of the Colts’ 47 dropbacks. He was also targeted down the field a few times. The bad news is that Daniel Jones was not effective and hasn’t been throughout the season. Downs did have another 15-yard completion called back due to a penalty away from the ball, but it wouldn’t have made a huge difference in his day. Downs is still on the WR3 radar because the Colts play the Titans next week, but until Jones can get it going, it’s hard to trust anybody other than Tyler Warren in this passing attack.

With Alec Pierce and IR and Keenan Allen ruled out, this was supposed to be Downs’ breakout performance. Instead, Downs went missing for most of the game. He caught two passes in the first quarter, another in the second, and did not touch the ball again for the remaining 35 minutes of the contest. Downs finished fourth on the team in targets and was used primarily for check-down duties, though that’s all Daniel Jones was capable of today. Downs should still be treated as the team’s No. 1 receiver for Week 5 versus Pittsburgh, but his stranglehold on the targets is at least in question now.

Trent McDuffie (groin) resumed practicing on Wednesday.

This is McDuffie’s first practice since he injured his groin during a Week 6 practice. He will be limited on the official injury report. Rams LB Nate Landman (concussion) will be listed as a full participant.

Lamar Jackson (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 8 against the Bills.

It’s Jackson’s first full practice since suffering the ankle injury in Week 4. Even with the many twists and turns in this latest injury saga, we’re comfortable assuming Jackson will play this week. The fact that he was held out this long hopefully means that he’s close to 100 percent healthy. Facing a likely shootout with the Bills, Jackson projects for the second-most fantasy points at his position, behind only Josh Allen.

Colby Parkinson (ribs) will not practice on Wednesday.

Parkinson has meaningfully contributed to the Rams’ offense in each of the last two weeks, but he is now at risk of missing his team’s Week 8 game against the Chargers. Were Parkinson to sit out on Sunday, Tyler Higbee would likely benefit.

Eagles placed Dameon Pierce on injured reserve.

Jaydon Blue was signed from their practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move. Pierce went down with an injury on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter of Monday’s game. The team has not announced the exact injury yet, but Pierce will now miss a minimum of four games. Blue will back up a still-very-injured Saquon Barkley. Barkley returned from his hamstring injury in Week 7, only to suffer a back injury in the process. Blue has an outside chance at starting for the Eagles this week, making him worth a look on waivers.

Carson Beck (back) will be limited on Wednesday.

The Cardinals’ No. 3 quarterback has been dealing with back spasms in recent weeks, likely delaying his rookie season debut. Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Beck threw the ball well on Tuesday. Today, they will see how things go. Stay tuned.

Walter Nolen (ankle) will not practice on Wednesday.

Nolen did not play in Week 7 against the Broncos. Were he to miss this week’s game against the Cowboys, his absence would only further insulate this game as a fantasy-friendly environment. The Cardinals’ permissive defense is a unit to target via matchups.

    49ers released Jack Jones.

Jones was released to create room on the roster for DeForest Buckner, whom the 49ers just acquired from Indianapolis. Jones hasn’t played much this year, but he has been active in all seven games and sees some work on special teams. He started 17 games for the Dolphins in 2025 and 16 games for the Raiders in 2024. He shouldn’t have any issues finding a new team.

Jeremiyah Love (ankle) will be limited on Wednesday.

We were hoping to see Love practice in full after taking two weeks off. While today’s limited session puts him on track to play in Week 8 against the Cowboys, Bam Knight and Tyler Allgeier are still worth stashing on benches, just in case. The Cardinals are finally handling Love’s recovery patiently, after giving him far too many touches early in the preseason.

Dolphins claimed Christian Haynes off waivers from the Seahawks.

It was initially reported that the Ravens claimed Haynes off waivers. The Dolphins, however, also claimed him. A worse record than the Ravens gave Miami a higher priority on waivers and they were awarded Haynes. The former third-round pick will be a useful depth option for the Dolphins.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Davante Adams (hamstring) successfully underwent surgery, and his return timeline is “probably closer” to the shorter end of the expected 6-10 week timeline.

If Adams hit the absolute soonest return date, week-wise, he theoretically could face the Chiefs in Week 13, but that game takes place on Thursday night. We suspect facing the 49ers in Week 14 is more likely, though nothing is guaranteed for a 33-year-old player. Adams should be stashed in injured reserve spots, where possible. He makes for a tough cut in leagues without them.
