Lions declared RT Blake Miller, LG Christian Mahogany, CB Keith Abney, EDGE Ahmed Hassanein, CB Ennis Rakestraw, LB Jimmy Rolder and DL Mekhi Wingo inactive for Week 2 against the Bills.

Losing Miller and Mahogany for this one is unfortunate, especially with C Cade Mays (wrist) on injured reserve. The Bills, however, lost DT Ed Oliver to a pre-game hip injury. This should be a high-scoring, fantasy-friendly game environment tonight. Lions CB D.J. Reed (foot) will play.
Is Mother Nature the Defensive Player of the Year?
Andrew Perloff explains why Mother Nature deserves DPOY votes after storms, rain and brutal field conditions wreaked havoc on NFL Week 2. Plus, why fans shouldn't overreact to low-scoring games and struggling offenses.

Christian Mahogany (hip) was also ruled out. The Lions will be without their starting left guard and right tackle for Week 2. Larry Borom will take Miller’s spot in the lineup, while Ben Bartch will handle Mahogany’s duties. Neither player practiced once this week, though the extra rest between Thursday’s game and Week 3 will be good for both of them.
  • DET Cornerback #4
Reed was a mid-week addition to the injury report because of his foot issue. He was limited for the final two practices of the week. Reed is likely on the optimistic side of questionable, but we won’t know for sure until the Lions release their inactives 90 minutes before kickoff.
  • DET Cornerback #4
He was a surprise addition to the report on Tuesday. The Lions secondary, already starting a wave of low-level veteran free agents like Rock Ya-Sin, Avonte Maddox, and Chuck Clark, can ill-afford to lose Reed before taking on the Bills on Thursday night.
  • Miller will clearly have a chance to step in right away as the bookend on the other side of Penei Sewell, it did seem like the Lions were leaning towards having Sewell play left tackle this offseason. Rookie tackles are not exactly a dependable source of solid play right away, but Miller’s career at Clemson leads us to believe he’ll have a decent floor right away, which should help the Lions pass protection and run game this season.
  • Miller (6'7/317) enters the big leagues as a grizzled four-year starter who anchored the Tigers’ right tackle spot for the majority of his collegiate career. Somehow amassing more than 3,700 career snaps, Miller’s college days culminated with a 78.5 overall PFF grade in 2025 and an 83.5 pass-blocking mark, continuing a year-to-year climb in protection efficiency. He allowed pressure on just 1.8 percent of his 2025 pass-blocking reps while surrendering only two sacks, underscoring his consistency protecting the edge. Miller pairs production with outstanding athletic traits, posting a near-perfect 9.97 Relative Athletic Score highlighted by a 5.04s 40-yard dash, 32-inch vertical, 9’5” broad jump and 32 bench reps, placing him among the most explosive linemen in the class. His combination of length (34 ¼” arms), power and movement skills allows him to mirror speed rushers in pass protection while generating displacement in the run game with strong leg drive. With elite testing numbers, multi-year starting experience and elite athleticism, Miller projects as an immediate Lions starter. His selection would seem to mean Penei Sewell mans the blindside.
  • DET Cornerback #4
Reed, a critical part of the Detroit secondary, will suit up for the first time since sustaining a serious hamstring injury in early October and landing on injured reserve. It’s not the best development for Jameis Winston and the Giants pass catchers. The Giants were massively run heavy in Week 11 against the Packers. Lions declared CB Terrion Arnold, RB Craig Reynolds, CB Nick Whiteside, DL Quinton Jefferson, and DL Mekhi Wingo inactive against New York.
  • DET Defensive End #97
Good thing, too, because the entire rest of the Lions defense found their way on to this report. Terrion Arnold (concussion), Kerby Joseph (knee) and Josh Paschal (back) were all ruled out. D.J. Reed (hamstring) and Amik Robertson (hamstring) are questionable. Both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith should see slight matchup uggrades given the CB injuries.
  • DET Defensive Back #32
The Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett reports that Branch “worked out on the side during individual drills at practice Wednesday and had a noticeable limp as he left the locker room Thursday.” The Lions’ secondary could be extremely short-staffed against the Chiefs on Sunday night. Birkett notes that starting CBs, D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold, are out indefinitely with hamstring and shoulder injuries. The Lions placed backup CB Khalil Dorsey on injured reserve this week and No. 3 safety Avonte Maddox “showed up on the injury report Thursday with a hamstring injury.”
  • DET Cornerback #4
Fellow cornerback Terrion Arnold is also expected to miss significant time with a shoulder injury, leaving the team extremely shorthanded on the back end ahead of a Week 6 matchup with the Chiefs. Safety Kerby Joseph has been tending to a knee injury as well.
  • DET Safety #31
As expected, cornerback D.J. Reed was also listed as a DNP. He is a candidate for injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4. With multiple starters in their secondary injured, the Lions look like a relatively easy defensive matchup for Week 5. Unfortunately for the Bengals, their offense doesn’t look remotely capable of taking advantage of such a situation.

Commanders HC Dan Quinn said S Nick Cross spent the night in the hospital on Sunday night due to an “internal injury” he suffered in Week 2 against the Cowboys.

Quinn didn’t disclose any specifics about Cross’ injury, but he did share that Cross was discharged from the hospital on Monday and is making his way back to the team. We’ll see if Cross is able to get on the practice field this week, but the Commanders could be looking at yet another key player being sidelined for Week 3’s game against a Seahawks team that is off to a 2-0 start.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reports Marcus Mariota is expected to start in Week 3 against the Seahawks.

Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Pelissero’s report shortly after it was announced. The 0-2 Commanders will host the Seahawks for their home opener with Mariota under center in what has become an all-too-familiar sight for Commanders fans. With Jayden Daniels (elbow) out for the foreseeable future, Mariota will likely make multiple starts in the coming weeks. The former No. 2 overall pick threw for 1,695 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 11 games last season while leading the team to a 2-6 record in his eight starts. Mariota has proven to be a viable option in 2QB/Superflex leagues, but he should be avoided in this week’s tough matchup against the Seahawks.

Jayden Daniels (elbow) underwent imaging and he and the team will “consult with a variety of experts” over the next few days.

We’re not likely to hear much on the long-term status of Daniels this week — maybe something breaks by Thursday or Friday — but it is very clear he won’t be starting again in the short-term. Gathering a variety of medical opinions rather than relying on the team doctor is, more often than not, a predecessor to some sort of surgery. It would be hasty to say that’s where this is headed, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it wound up that way given how bad the injury looked on the field.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said Sam Darnold (glute) is on track to practice this week.

FOX Sports’ Megan Olivi reported on Sunday that the Seahawks “are aiming” to have Darnold play in Week 3 against the Commanders. It goes without saying that Darnold will need to get a few days of practice in if he hopes to suit up, making this a big week for the Seahawks’ QB1 as he looks to get back on the field. Darnold’s injury wasn’t as severe as the team initially feared when he exited in Week 1 against the Patriots, but with a game against the 0-2 Commanders on the horizon, it’s possible the team doesn’t look to rush him back to the field if he’s not close to 100 percent. His practice status will be worth monitoring throughout the week, but if he’s held out, Drew Lock will make at least one more start in what should be a plus matchup for fantasy managers.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reports Kyler Murray has cleared concussion protocol and will start in Week 3 against the Buccaneers.

The 2-0 Vikings will hopefully get their first full look at Murray, who exited in Week 1 after just 11 snaps. Murray will face a Buccaneers defense that ranks 24th in points allowed through the first two weeks and has allowed the 11th-most passing yards and the 10th-highest net yards per pass attempt. Murray has a nice supporting cast to work with and brings plenty of rushing upside, but fantasy managers shouldn’t view him as anything more than a mid-QB2 until we see how he functions in his first full game or two with the team.

Saints T Kelvin Banks is expected to undergo ankle surgery after tests revealed a “severe” high-ankle sprain.

He’s out indefinitely and this will be a major blow for the Saints offense. There’s a chance he returns at some point later this season. He almost undoubtedly will end up on injured reserve in the next few days. Banks had a 73.5 PFF grade last year as one of the brighter rookie tackles of the class of 2025. Asim Richards would seem like the likely short-term replacement.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said he “wouldn’t look into too much” about Marvin Harrison Jr.'s usage in Week 2 because “we didn’t throw the ball for crap anyway.”

“Schematically, it wasn’t good,” LaFleur added, presumably while giving himself a wedgie. Harrison only saw one official target — another was wiped away by penalty — and he played just 74 percent of the snaps. The real problem here is that when the Cardinals ran well on offense in Week 1, Harrison had just one catch for 33 yards on three targets. He’s going to be hard to trust in any given week until we see it “click” in some way with LaFleur’s offense.

Speaking on the Pat McAfee show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Puka Nacua (hip) is “trending towards not playing” in Week 2 against the Giants.

The Rams will announce their inactives 90 minutes before kickoff, but this is now the second time in two days that Schefter has suggested Nacua will not suit up tonight. Schefter said the team is “not giving up hope” that Nacua could still suit up, but also added, “it doesn’t sound promising right now.” If Nacua is unable to go in Week 2, Davante Adams would be an obvious favorite to see an increase in targets, while running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Corum could also get more involved as the Rams look for ways to move the ball against a Giants team that gave the Cowboys’ offense fits in Week 1.

Panthers coach Dave Canales said the team is “gathering information” on Jonathon Brooks’ groin injury.

He’s undergoing tests to determine the severity. That’s not normally the sort of story that ends with “and Brooks played a full allotment of snaps in Week 3,” but we’ll see. Brooks should be regarded as a drop candidate in shallow leagues on snaps and opportunities alone, but if he’s not healthy, that may expand to more leagues.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Jadarian Price’s injury is a shoulder issue and “nothing serious, it doesn’t seem.”

He pointed to the ailment being a “technical term for somewhere up in your shoulder, but it’s intact.” It doesn’t sound like we should expect Price to miss major time, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he were limited or missed some practice days this week in the wake of an injury. Emanuel Wilson will be the backup plan and a worthy waiver claim after his 22-carry performance against the Cardinals last week.
