Broncos placed RB Jonah Coleman (ankle) on injured reserve.

That escalated quickly. Coleman was potentially in line to serve as the starter in Week 3 with both J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey nursing various injuries. Coleman missed practice throughout the week with an ankle injury that wasn’t revealed until Wednesday’s practice report, with the injury now taking the next four games, at minimum, from the talented rookie. Both Harvey and Dobbins have been cleared to play in Week 3, forming a backfield tandem in the wake of Coleman’s injury.

Commanders activated Jeremy McNichols (quad) off injured reserve.

He’ll likely be Washington’s third-string back tonight, but one thing that two years and five weeks of Dan Quinn being in charge have taught us is that no one ever expects that Jeremy McNichols takeover until it’s too late. The backfield mix in Washington is weak and anyone could emerge in a post-'Bill’ world.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said he is undecided on whether or not Josh Jacobs will play in Week 7 against the Lions.

LaFleur said Jacobs will log a full week of practice but also pointed out that the 28-year-old back has “missed the exposure to football” over the last several months while on the commissioner’s exempt list. Jacobs was reinstated by the league late last week and is eligible to play immediately, but whether or not he will be active next week is to be determined. We’ll see how this week unfolds, but it would be a bit surprising if Jacobs was inactive in a pivotal NFC North matcup.

Commanders activated CB Trey Amos (fibula) from injured reserve.

He’ll immediately step in as a starting corner after a long rehab from a broken fibula suffered last November. The Commanders are desperate for better outside cornerback play and will be hoping their 2025 second-rounder can provide it in a hurry.

Commanders placed Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin) on injured reserve.

He’ll miss at least the next four weeks. Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler figure to get the majority of the work from Weeks 6-9. The Commanders also brought Jeremy McNichols off injured reserve and signed him to the active roster.

Patriots placed Romeo Doubs (shoulder) on injured reserve.

Doubs was ruled out in the third quarter of Week 6’s win over the Jets and will now miss at least the next four games. With the Patriots’ bye not coming until Week 11, the earliest Doubs will be able to return to the field will be in Week 12 against the Chargers. Doubs has caught 14 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns this season and has been targeted more than four times in just one game. Doubs can be dropped in leagues that don’t allow players to be stashed on IR.

Christian Kirk (calf) won’t play in San Francisco’s Week 6 game against the Commanders.

He won’t be activated off injured reserve for this one, but he did practice three times this week and he may be a consideration for Week 7’s game if things continue to trend in this direction. This means Brandin Cooks should operate as San Francisco’s No. 2 wideout assuming Mike Evans plays.

Giants coach John Harbaugh, asked about the running back room, said carries are “earned” and told his players to “do something” in their opportunities and more will come.

Tyrone Tracy appeared to do the most with his opportunities last week, scoring the game’s only two touchdowns. Najee Harris was bottled up and Cam Skattebo was soft benched while Devin Singletary led the team in snaps while they were in comeback mode for most of the second half. By the letter of what he’s offering here, Tracy is probably the player who should get the majority of the snaps against the Texans. In actuality, we have no idea what will happen here and this quote doesn’t really help us. “I don’t like (rotating backs) either,” Harbaugh said per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan after the game. “One of those guys needs to step up. Somebody needs to step up and be the back. And none of those guys have done that yet.” We suspect we’ll be diving beat writer opinions ahead of Sunday.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said OC Sean Mannion will continue to call plays.

Mannion is in his first year as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator and has struggled to turn around an offense that ranked 19th in scoring and 24th in total yards last season. The loss of Jalen Hurts (blood clots) will only further complicate life for Mannion and the Eagles, who rank 28th in points scored through six games this season. While Sirianni did say “everything’s on the table” to fix the offense, it doesn’t sound like any dramatic changes are coming just yet.

Bills signed CB Tre’Davious White to their practice squad.

The 31-year-old will be the latest veteran-as-practice-squadder bit corner in Buffalo’s beleaguered room. He has a storied history with the organization and is clearly still a very smart player.

Giants coach John Harbaugh said they’re “working through that now” when asked which quarterback would start against the Texans in Week 7.

The fact that he has to think about it probably tips the hand that it will be J.J. McCarthy sooner or later — if not outright now. Jameis Winston was replaced by McCarthy in the fourth quarter yesterday and McCarthy showcased his deep arm and almost erased a large deficit by throwing for 243 yards on 21 attempts. If McCarthy did start against the Texans, he would likely be a bottom five superflex option on the Week 7 slate because of his established history as a starter.
