The Athletic’s Mike Silver believes Rashee Rice (hamstring) could be out for several weeks.

After the game, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Rice “tweaked” his hamstring, seemingly downplaying the severity of his injury. It’s possible Silver is speculating on how long Rice could be out given what we know about soft-tissue injuries. Rice didn’t return to the game on Sunday against the Raiders, but he could be seen working out on the sideline at various times and was also on the exercise bike. With the Chiefs now entering their bye week, it’s possible we won’t have more clarity on Rice’s potential absence until they return to prepare for Week 6 against the Chargers. We will check back in with any updates as the team provides them.

The Chiefs aren’t formally ruling him out just yet, but Rice’s day is as good as done with this latest update. He continues to go through tests on the hamstring he injured in the first quarter of Sunday’s game and will likely be ruled out in the near future. If his day is done, Rice will finish with zero receptions on zero targets in just six offensive snaps.

This news comes from the team’s X account. Rice exited in the first quarter of Sunday’s game and eventually made his way to the locker room after initially refusing to leave the field. CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson reported that Rice was noticeably frustrated on the sideline, which isn’t an encouraging sign as far as his return for this game is concerned.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
It’s hard to tell what may have happened here, but Rice appeared to land awkwardly on his left foot after making a catch on a play that would be overturned by a penalty. Rice appeared to be grabbing at the back of his leg and immediately made his way to the sideline. We will provide an update when we receive one.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
Rice’s seven receptions were easily a new season best, though he’s now cleared 80 yards in back-to-back contests. Rice’s nine targets were no joke on a day where Patrick Mahomes was limited to 24 attempts as the Chiefs ran just 49 plays. Rice was also the intended target on Mahomes’ “interception,” which in reality was a ball Rice batted into the air. Not good, but neither was the pass. It was behind the wideout, who was laying on the ground. We doubt Mahomes holds it against him. Rice will remain a solid WR2 for Week 4 in Vegas.

An interesting development from this one were the 10 targets filtered to running back Kenneth Walker, who gained emphasis through the air in the short areas of the field typically accounted for by Rice and tight end Travis Kelce. The Colts also utilized elevated rates of man coverage until the departure of cornerback Charvarius Ward, against which Rice has clear negative splits. He did break free for a 31-yard gain, one of two Mahomes completions to go for more than 30 yards. Rice remains a volume-driven WR2 with clear WR3 downside, in an offense now more intent on featuring the backfield. He remains a touchdown-dependent WR2 against the Dolphins in Week 3.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
Rice earned only two targets in Week 1, yet still technically warrants WR2 treatment based on his theoretical role in the offense, along with his past WR1 performances. The Chiefs notably faced the Broncos’ top-tier defense last week and will get a far softer matchup against the Colts in Week 2.
  • KC Quarterback #15
Rashee Rice (knee) is also practicing in full. Both players underwent offseason knee procedures and had slow ramp-ups during the summer. Both players were active for Week 1 and found the end zone. Mahomes did so on the ground, putting the notion that he would be hampered by the knee issue to rest. The passing attack still looked shaky in Week 1, but there are no health concerns for either player. Mahomes will be a low-end QB1 versus the Colts, and Rice will hold a spot in the WR2 ranks.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
Rice saw only two targets as the Chiefs clearly had a ground-heavy game plan to ease quarterback Patrick Mahomes back into action in his first game since tearing his ACL in 2025. Furthermore, Rice was largely unable to generate separation against a stingy Denver secondary, oftentimes locked down in man coverage. Even his touchdown was uninspiring aside from a great effort to bounce off the first tackler. Rice appears to be a shaky fantasy bet for managers that invested an early-round pick into his services, particularly in the coming weeks against poor competition. Rice will be a speculative WR3 against the Colts in Week 2.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
Rice is evidently good to go for Week 1 after a tumultuous offseason, which included a knee operation and a jail stint. The Chiefs’ No. 1 wide receiver looked sluggish in training camp while rookie WR Cyrus Allen shined, but Rice’s status as the entrenched top target earner counts for something. Rice should be viewed as a WR2 entering the season.
  • KC Wide Receiver #4
Andy Reid also echoed this sentiment earlier in the offseason. As Rapoport points out, Rice was already suspended for his involvement in a hit-and-run car crash in 2024. He violated his probation this year and spent 30 days in jail, but it doesn’t sound like the league plans to punish him any further. Rice is also recovering from offseason knee surgery and has received mixed reviews over the first two weeks of training camp. For fantasy purposes, as long as Rice can soak up check-downs, the PPR points will flow.

Panthers designated OT Taylor Moton (blood clots) for return.

Moton was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list entering camp after it was revealed that he was dealing with blood clots in his lungs. The 32-year-old tackle now has 21 days to be activated from IR or be ruled out for the season, but we would expect him to be activated in the coming weeks. Moton earned a PFF offensive grade of 80.5 last season and allowed just three sacks and 22 pressures. In addition to Moton, the Panthers also designated DL Tershawn Wharton (neck) for return.

Tom Kennedy (knee) suffered a significant MCL injury that is expected to require season-ending surgery.

The 30-year-old culture tonesetter has mostly only turned to fantasy relevancy when injuries piled up. The Lions had to use Amon-Ra St. Brown on returns after his injury and will likely seek a new returner off the practice circuit this week.

Fernando Mendoza completed 6-of-8 passes for 48 yards in relief of Kirk Cousins in Las Vegas’ Week 5 loss to the Patriots.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Mendoza is going to take the reins this week; we expect Cousins to continue starting even if Raiders coach Klint Kubiak didn’t affirmatively get ahead of the situation in Sunday’s post-game. But Mendoza looked reasonable and this will obviously be something that will bubble up eventually. No. 1 overall picks don’t typically stay on benches too long.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said “there’s a chance” A.J. Brown (ankle) will practice this week.

Brown has been rehabbing from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the season-opener. It was reported on Sunday that Brown was walking without a limp, and last week NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that “the hope is” Brown will play in Week 6 against the Jets. The team has not opened his return window, which they will need to do in order for him to practice this week. Once that happens, the focus will then move to his practice status and whether or not he can log a full practice or two before the weekend. We would expect Brown’s 21-day return window in the next 24 hours if the team really believes there’s a chance he could return this week.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said David Montgomery will be week-to-week with the groin injury he suffered in Week 5 against the Titans.

Ryans said Woody Marks “will carry the load” for the team while Montgomery is sidelined. It’s been a tough start to the season for Montgomery, who scored three times in Week 1 but has been locked out of the end zone ever since while averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per touch. Marks has been slightly more efficient than Montgomery this season, but the Texans’ running game as a whole has left much to be desired. Marks’ expected workload makes him worth a waiver wire claim where available, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect anything more than RB3 levels of production at this time. The Texans will take on the Jaguars in London in Week 6.

Packers DT Javon Hargrave suffered a torn Achilles in Week 5’s win over the Bears, ending his season.

It was reported after Sunday’s game that the Packers believed Hargrave suffered a torn Achilles, so this news doesn’t come as a surprise. The 33-year-old lineman will now miss the remainder of the season and look to rehab in hopes of being back in time for training camp next season. Hargrave signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the Packers this offseason and has totaled six tackles in four games played.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Browns LB Carson Schwesinger is dealing with a Grade 1 ankle sprain.

Schwesinger has not been ruled out for Week 6’s game against the Ravens, and attempted to play through the injury at one point. With a big AFC North matchup on tap for this week, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Browns gave Schwesinger every opportunity to play. His practice status will be one to keep an eye on throughout the week. The 2025 Defensive Rookie of the Year has totaled 43 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble this season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Eagles RB Will Shipley (foot) suffered “a partial tear of his plantar fascia” in Week 5’s loss to the Jaguars.

The Eagles’ running backs room continues to take hits. After losing Tank Bigsby (core) last week to a multi-week injury, the team is now preparing to be without Shipley for multiple weeks. Saquon Barkley, who missed Week 5 with a hamstring injury, could be back as early as Week 6 against the Panthers, but if he’s unable to play, the Eagles could be looking at Dameon Pierce and Jaydon Blue as their top two backs. Shipley totaled 13 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on six touches before going down yesterday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said “all signs point” to Caleb Williams (hamstring) returning in Week 6 against the Falcons.

Head coach Ben Johnson said on Sunday that Williams would be “close” to suiting up for Week 6, and he reportedly had a good workout before Week 5’s game against the Packers. Williams has missed the last three games with the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2, but the Bears have managed to go 2-1 over that span. Williams logged one limited practice last week, after being a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday. If he can get on the practice field multiple days this week, it would be a good sign for his availability for next week’s game against the Falcons.

Cardinals TE Teagan Quitoriano caught 2-of-2 targets for 15 yards and two touchdowns in Arizona’s Week 5 loss to the Lions.

(The Aristocrats voice) The Lions defense! Quitoriano, Arizona’s No. 2 tight end, remains outside of the fantasy TE2 discussion. These were his first touchdowns since the 2022 season, doubling his career total to four.
