Jaylen Waddle caught 2-of-5 targets for 19 yards in the Broncos’ Week 5 win over the Chargers while adding a nine-yard rush.

Give some credit to the Chargers’ defense, but this was an ugly game for both passing attacks. Waddle has his second dud in three weeks, and doesn’t appear to have great chemistry with Bo Nix thus far. No one really does, to be fair, as no receiver caught more than four passes for Denver. Waddle is a volatile WR2, and that volatility becomes more, well, volatile for Week 6 against the Seahawks.

Waddle was invisible for much of the game until a late red zone touchdown with the Broncos in up-tempo catch-up mode. It was his first touchdown reception as a Bronco. Waddle, who now has three down games in his first four contests as the Broncos’ nominal WR1, will probably struggle until Denver OC Davis Webb figures out how to maximize his personnel, including the struggling Bo Nix. Against the 49ers Waddle was targeted on a meager 16 percent of his routes. Hopefully that rate will rise in Week 5 against the Chargers.

Waddle gave folks a fright, sporting a walking boot after the Broncos’ Week 3 win over the Rams. He practiced in full all week, though, so there are no concerns about his availability. Waddle is a WR2 against the 49ers in what should be a fantasy-friendly game environment.

Waddle was spotted in a boot after Week 3’s win over the Rams. DNVR’s Zac Stevens reported at the time that he was fine and can comfortably take a victory lap now that Payton has said he practiced in full. Waddle posted a dud in Week 3 with two catches for 10 yards, but he ripped off 138 yards the week before that. The production might come in peaks and valleys, but fantasy managers should hold the line and treat him like a WR2 for a potential shootout with the 49ers this week.

Waddle was spotted in a walking boot after the Broncos’ Sunday night win, prompting speculation over his status. Jane reports that Waddle is “fine” while beat reporter Zac Stevens said a source told him “there’s nothing wrong” with the 27-year-old wideout. The boot certainly could have been a precautionary measure but we will wait for Wednesday’s practice report to find out if Waddle is truly dealing with an injury.

Waddle would also add a successful two-point reception in the third quarter to give him a slight boost in counting stats, although the 6.4-point effort left fantasy managers in desperate need of better production from their fourth-round selection in fantasy drafts. Waddle has now sandwiched poor fantasy outings with one usable game through three weeks. Fantasy managers are likely left to ride out the struggles of the Denver offense in hopes of greener pastures, which could come in a Week 4 showdown with the 49ers. Treat Waddle as an upside WR3, at present.

Waddle was targeted on an obscene 42 percent of his pass routes against the Jaguars. He came up a yard short of a long touchdown in the first half and easily led all Denver pass catchers with ten looks from Bo Nix. Broncos OC Davis Webb’s insistence on force feeding Waddle makes the wideout too big to fail in the balanced Denver offense. Despite a letdown of a Week 1 performance against KC, Waddle should be locked into lineups until further notice. He’ll be a top-20 player in Week 3 against the Rams.

Payton was asked if their offseason acquisition, Waddle, was going to be more involved this week than he was in Week 1. Per Payton, they intended to get Waddle more involved, but acknowledged that the team needs to be “more deliberate” about getting him involved, “without forcing it.” The last-second qualifier is a tad unsettling, but we do expect the Broncos to at least look Waddle’s way early, in order to assuage usage concerns. He is a WR2 against the Jaguars this week.

Nix during his postgame presser defended offensive play caller Davis Webb, who took over for head coach Sean Payton this offseason. “The players did not make it easy on [Webb] today,” said Nix, who completed 17-of-28 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Monday night’s loss to Kansas City. “Pretty pitiful, actually.” Denver had the league’s second lowest drop back EPA of Week 1; only the Falcons were worse. Nix, meanwhile, ranked 28th out of 32 qualifying QBs in Week 1 accuracy. “We called exactly what we prepared for and what we wanted to get to and we just didn’t execute,” Nix said. “Then we were behind.” Webb and the Broncos will look to bounce back in Week 2 against a tough Jaguars defense.

The entire Denver offense struggled to get anything going on a night they managed only 176 yards of total offense, clearly no match for Steve Spagnuolo’s Kansas City defense. Most troubling was the fact that this was the first time new offensive coordinator Davis Webb was calling plays after head coach Sean Payton announced this offseason that he would be relinquishing those duties on game days. It is unclear how long the Broncos will stick with that setup if the offense continues to struggle as it did against the Chiefs, particularly considering the team holds the honor of having the most difficult schedule during the first six weeks of the season. Waddle will look to return to his status as an upside-WR2 when the Broncos host the Jaguars in Week 2.

Nix looked mobile and eager to chuck it downfield. He even had a few overthrows, which we suppose is a good thing for a quarterback who spent the offseason rehabbing an ankle injury. The Broncos quarterback linked up with new WR Jaylen Waddle for a 35-yard gain down the seam and targeted WR Courtland Sutton a couple of times along the sideline. He found tonight’s starting RB RJ Harvey speeding down the right side of the field on a wheel route, and linked up with the second-year running back for a 21-yard touchdown to conclude the first drive. New OC Davis Webb regularly dialed up play action, which is great for fantasy purposes. Nix looks like a low-end QB1.

Rams signed K Blake Grupe off the Jets practice squad.

Going 5-for-9 on the season will get you replaced in the modern NFL, as Thiccer Kicker Harrison Mevis is learning. It’s not totally fair, one of those was blocked, but clearly the Rams were not happy with how things were trending. Grupe is a worthwhile pickup in leagues that still use kickers. He went 11-for-11 for the Colts last year after being released by the Saints at midseason.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Chargers would not consider trading Justin Herbert.

Schefter reached out to the team after a league source told him the Chargers could get upwards of three first-round draft picks in exchange for Herbert. The Chargers source told Schefter the team has “never” discussed the idea of dealing Herbert, even as the Chargers start the season 0-5 and rank near the bottom in almost every offensive category. It would seem unlikely that the Chargers would consider trading Herbert even if they go all in on a rebuild following the 2026 season. Herbert, 28, who ranks 33rd out of 34 qualifying quarterbacks in EPA per drop back this year, is signed through the 2029 season.

Bengals TE Tanner Hudson (pec) is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Hudson tore his pec in Week 5’s win over the Dolphins. The injury will likely keep him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. Hudson had played 28 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and seen seven targets through five games, mostly functioning as a blocker. Drew Sample would see more snaps with Hudson sidelined.

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows believes Brandin Cooks is the “next man up” in the 49ers receivers room.

With Deebo Samuel sustaining a serious hamstring injury in Week 5 against Seattle, Cooks stepped in and functioned as San Francisco’s No. 2 receiver behind Mike Evans. Cooks was targeted on 17 percent of his pass routes against the Seahawks and caught a touchdown on his only reception. Though Jacob Cowing could mix in with Samuel sidelined, Cooks should be in line for a few targets a game. The well-traveled veteran can be picked up in deeper fantasy formats this week.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) will miss multiple weeks.

Henderson suffered his latest ankle injury in Week 5 against the Raiders. Schefter said Henderson is “regarded as a quick healer, so the Patriots are hoping his return is sooner rather than later.” Still, he could be sidelined for the next few weeks, leaving Rhamondre Stevenson as the team’s clear lead back. Corey Kiner, meanwhile, appears to be in line as the Patriots’ RB2 after seeing seven touches last week against the Raiders. Kiner should be stashed in most 12-team fantasy leagues for now. Stevenson profiles as a top-12 play until Henderson returns.

Jaguars OL Anton Harrison will undergo knee surgery and will miss at least 3-5 weeks.

Harrison, who sustained the injury in Week 5 against the Eagles, could miss the rest of the season once doctors determine the severity of his knee injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Harrison had protected Trevor Lawrence’s blindside before the injury. His absence could be a problem for a Jacksonville offensive line that has the league’s third worst pass blocking win rate.

Davante Adams caught 5-of-7 targets for 51 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams’ Week 5 loss to the Bills.

Adams cashed in on a corner fade from four yards out in the second quarter and ran a beautiful route on a double move slant from five yards out for his second score in the fourth quarter, proving that he remains an elite red zone weapon for an offense that has now attempted 51 or more passes in three straight games. Adams is back to modest target rates following the Week 4 return of Puka Nacua but remains a weekly WR2 due to his red zone acumen, which remains true ahead of a much more forgiving matchup against the Cardinals in Week 6.

Tyler Higbee caught 5-of-6 targets for 83 yards in the Rams’ Week 5 loss to the Bills.

Higbee continued to operate as the primary pass-catching tight end against the Bills, something that must please fantasy managers considering Colby Parkinson returned from a one-game absence. Furthermore, the team carried only three tight ends on the active game-day roster after being at either four or five through the first month of the 2026 season. Higbee is a middling TE2 in fantasy circles ahead of a juicy matchup against the divisional rival Cardinals in Week 6.

Puka Nacua caught 17-of-24 targets for 138 yards and a touchdown in the Rams’ Week 5 loss to the Bills, adding nine yards on two carries.

Nacua operated as the primary option through the air for a Rams team that attempted more than 50 passes for the third straight game. The veteran alpha was mostly confined to short-area work, something that could be attributed to the groin injury that continues to have his name on the injury report in practice, but that would not keep Nacua from returning another elite WR1 performance. Nacua was also inches away from padding his stat line further after failing to come down with what would have been a 51-yard touchdown reception on the final play of the first half. Nacua and the Rams fall to 2-3 ahead of a Week 6 divisional showdown against the Cardinals, where he will remain one of the top fantasy assets in the league.

Blake Corum rushed five times for 19 yards and a touchdown in the Rams’ Week 5 loss to the Bills, adding 53 yards on three receptions.

Corum provided a much needed spark in relief of lead back Kyren Williams, contributing three clutch receptions that kept drives alive in addition to a third quarter touchdown. That said, his modest volume continued while Williams turned in a third straight game with 20 or more opportunities, including 28 total targets in that stretch. Corum remains a top fantasy handcuff but is unlikely to return useful fantasy weeks for as long as Williams is healthy.
