Kyle Pitts does a thing, scores touchdown in loss

Kyle Pitts caught 5-of-6 targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons’ Week 5 loss to the Ravens.

Pitts remained largely confined to short area work with his game-long reception going for only 13 yards. A second quarter touchdown from five yards out gave the veteran tight end his first trip to paint through five games and his five receptions doubled that of his previous four appearances. Pitts remains a difficult weekly start for as long as Drake London and Bijan Robinson remain healthy. A Week 6 meeting with the Bears in Atlanta should see him remain in the TE2 ranks.

Pitts played just one snap on the team’s first two possessions before seeing modest usage the rest of the game. His counting stats were padded in the second half with a 28-yard, catch-and-run reception on a play action pass out of the flat. Pitts isn’t getting the snaps or route participation to return consistent fantasy production and is best left on fantasy benches for as long as Drake London remains healthy. That won’t change ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Ravens.

Pitts was the recipient of Michael Penix’s first completion of the 2026 season, with the latter making his season debut following ACL surgery. The return of his starting quarterback was not enough to give Pitts his first fantasy-relevant performance of the season as he watched blocking tight end Austin Hooper score the lone receiving touchdown of the evening from five yards out in the second quarter. Fantasy managers are stuck in the constant hype cycle with Pitts with very little to show for it through three games, making Pitts a difficult start on the road against the Saints in Week 4.
  • ATL Tight End #8
Cooper Rush was a disaster once again, tanking the fantasy prospects of every Falcon. Pitts narrowly avoided his second straight bagel with a lone catch late in the second quarter. He failed to catch his only target last week. There’s not much to say about Pitts and the entire offense when Rush simply shuts down all production from the jump. Pitts will reclaim a spot in the TE1 ranks if Michael Penix is back for Week 3. He is not on the fantasy radar if Rush is under center once again.
  • ATL Quarterback #9
Fowler said Penix, still recovering from his 2025 ACL injury, “wants to be fully confident before stepping onto the field. And my understanding is the Falcons are leaving the comfort level part of his recovery up to him.” “Penix is coming off his third ACL reconstruction, which is a lot of ACL reconstructions,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano added. “I believe it takes a lot of mental work to convince yourself it’s OK to go back out there and play. If Penix needs more time, I’m sure the Falcons will give it to him, though I believe we will see him on the field at some point this season.” That would leave Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s presumed starter if Tua can play through the oblique strain that sidelined him in Week 1 against the Steelers. If Tua can’t go, the Falcons could be forced to start Cooper Rush for another game or two. Rush, who had the lowest drop back EPA of any QB in Week 1, makes Drake London and Kyle Pitts iffy starts in 12-team fantasy formats.

Pitts owes most of this to a poor performance by Cooper Rush under center. Pitts played on 39 of the team’s 61 snaps and ran a route on 22 of their 29 dropbacks. He simply wasn’t a factor with Rush struggling to move the ball down the field. We should note that the Falcons were very run-heavy with Rush at quarterback, and Charlie Woerner played 38 snaps and was on the field for 22 run-blocking snaps to just 16 for Pitts. If the Falcons are going to continue to be so focused on rushing the ball, that could cut into some of Pitts’ snaps and usage.
  • ATL Tight End #8
Pitts ripped off multiple double-digit gains, moved well and looked tough to bring down. He delivered a 37-yard catch on the Falcons’ first drive, securing the pass on a quick out route from bunch formation before taking off down the right sideline. He later had a 16-yard gain on a sort crossing route, where he again chewed up yards after the catch. Pitts is a mid-tier TE1 entering the year.
  • ATL Tight End #8
Fowler settles on Pitts being a “certified first or second option in the passing game.” Pitts sets up as a potential high-end TE1 on an offense that loves to use the tight end, and the fact that he finished second in fantasy points among TEs last year is proof of concept that he was already playing better in 2025. With his contract taken care of, perhaps this will be the year Pitts ascends to the top of the tier, the writer said forgetting any of the last five years had happened.

The Falcons had previously waffled a bit on potentially making Pitts available after “President Of Football” Matt Ryan took over, but must have liked what they saw in the early offseason. Pitts currently looks to be slated for the No. 2 receiver role in Atlanta behind Drake London and should be a fantasy-viable TE1 this year. (Words that have never come back to bite anyone.) Pitts settles for slightly below George Kittle’s $19.1 million per year and Trey McBride’s $19 million per year and will remain in Atlanta for the near future.

Just yesterday, ESPN’s Dan Graziano opined that the Falcons might want to see how Pitts fits in their new offense before committing to a long-term contract. Today, his colleague Marc Raimondi published comments from Pitts, who described the tag as being “kind of like my fifth-year option, but it’s a sixth-year option.” Pitts believes that the new staff’s tag use shows that they see something in him and “trust” him. Tagged players sometimes hold out or argue for a long-term deal. Not Pitts. He is ready to play. Stefanski, a former tight ends coach, has helped deliver TE1 results over the years. Per PFF, flats and hitches were Pitts’ most run routes last year. Based on Stefanski’s 2025 play designs with the Browns, Pitts could run them even more this year, while also running more drags, curls and potentially, overs. Pitts is a TE1 this season, but his range of potential outcomes is still being decided. Hopefully, we learn more during training camp next month.

Pitts is set to play on the franchise tag worth $15.045 million if he and the Falcons don’t agree to an extension by July 15. With Drake London signing a $141 million extension and Bijan Robinson also set to cash in this offseason, it’s unclear if the Falcons will also extend Pitts. The 25-year-old tight end had an excellent season in 2025, but was inconsistent in the previous four seasons. Graziano writes that if no extension is agreed upon and the Falcons struggle early in the season, he could become a trade candidate. He mentions the Raves as a team that would likely have interest.

Rams declared WR CJ Daniels, QB Ty Simpson, TE Max Klare, DE Larrell Murchison, and OL Bill Murray inactive for Week 5 against the Bills.

Klare had been active from Week 2 through Week 4 but retreats to the inactives list with Colby Parkinson returning from a one-game absence. Puka Nacua’s absence Week 2 and Week 3 could have also played a role in Klare’s game-day status during that period, with the Rams now set to face the Bills with just three active tight ends after going through multiple games with either four or five active.

Bills WR DJ Moore (shoulder) is inactive for Week 5 against the Rams.

Moore’s absence leaves only Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Greg Dortch, and Skyler Bell as healthy wide receivers on the active roster with Joshua Palmer also sidelined. Expect heavy snap rates for Coleman and Shakir alongside tight end Dalton Kincaid, with the possibility the team elevates their 12-personnel rates through the inclusion of Dawson Knox. Also inactive for the Bills are WR Joshua Palmer, OL Jude Bowry, OL Ar’maj Reed-Adams, DL Ed Oliver DL, Landon Jackson, and NCB Dee Alford.

Browns signed RB Audric Estime from the Vikings’ practice squad.

Estime’s signing comes as Quinshon Judkins is dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 5. Estime, who is only 23 years old, already feels like an NFL journeyman as he now heads to his fifth team in three seasons after brief stints with the Broncos, Eagles, Saints, and Vikings. The former fifth-round pick has rushed for 508 yards and three touchdowns in his career and rushed for 76-310-2 as a rookie with the Broncos. Estime could see snaps in Week 6 against the Ravens if Judkins is unable to play, but we wouldn’t expect to see anything close to a meaningful workload at this time.

Broncos EDGE Jonathon Cooper was granted permission to travel to the team’s away games this season.

Cooper, who is facing felony assault charges and domestic violence and harassment charges, appeared in court on Monday and is currently on the commissioner’s exempt list. With his pretrial set for February 19th and his new trial date set for March 2nd, it’s possible Cooper could be removed from the exempt list now that his trial is set for after the season. Cooper has not played a game for the Broncos this season.

Vikings worked out WR JuJu Smith-Schuster on Monday.

Smith-Schuster was released by the Giants in training camp, and last worked out for the Jets in September. The 29-year-old receiver caught 33 passes for 345 yards and one touchdown last season, but wouldn’t be anything more than a depth signing if he were to sign with the Vikings or another team this season.

Seahawks listed Jaxon Smith-Njigba (ankle) as limited on Monday’s estimated injury report.

With the Seahawks preparing to face the Broncos on a short week, it would be a bit more concerning if JSN were listed as a DNP. The team listing him as limited on the first day of the week is encouraging after he clearly battled through an ankle injury in Week 5’s loss to the 49ers. Smith-Njigba still topped 100 receiving yards for the fourth time this season and made several big plays despite being in visible pain. We’ll continue to update his practice status throughout the week, but as long as he’s active come Thursday, JSN should be in your fantasy lineups.

Talanoa Hufanga (ankle) did not practice on Monday.

It was an estimated session, but one that probably bodes pretty prescient since Hufanga left Week 5’s game with the ankle injury and was ruled out. Riley Moss (ribs) was listed as limited and would appear to have a chance to come back after being ruled out for Week 5.

Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said Kirk Cousins is the starter “but if Fernando [Mendoza]'s number is called we have confidence in him.”

No real surprise after Mendoza’s mop-up appearance in Week 5. It doesn’t appear that he’s taken a major step towards unseating Cousins — who has played well — just yet. But it remains a reasonable bet to happen in the near future.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said he’s “hopeful” he will receive offensive reinforcements in Week 6 when asked about Saquon Barkley’s (hamstring) status.

Sirianni was asked about both Barkley and DeVonta Smith, who is also dealing with a hamstring injury. Sirianni didn’t commit to either player practicing this week, but we’ll see how things look on Wednesday when the Eagles release their first injury report. Philly suddenly finds itself in desperate need of help at running back after Tank Bigsby (core) was placed on IR last week and Will Shipley (foot) was diagnosed with a partial tear in his plantar fascia that’s expected to sideline him for several weeks. If Barkley is unable to play in Week 6, Dameon Pierce and Jaydon Blue would be next in line to lead the Eagles’ banged up backfield.
