TreVeyon out for a while with high ankle sprain

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) will miss multiple weeks.

Henderson suffered his latest ankle injury in Week 5 against the Raiders. Schefter said Henderson is “regarded as a quick healer, so the Patriots are hoping his return is sooner rather than later.” Still, he could be sidelined for the next few weeks, leaving Rhamondre Stevenson as the team’s clear lead back. Corey Kiner, meanwhile, appears to be in line as the Patriots’ RB2 after seeing seven touches last week against the Raiders. Kiner should be stashed in most 12-team fantasy leagues for now. Stevenson profiles as a top-12 play until Henderson returns.
What Rams WR will make up for the loss of Adams?
With Davante Adams missing between 6 and 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter discuss what other Rams' wide receivers could be good fantasy roster replacements.

It’s been a stunningly quick recovery from what looked to be a high-ankle sprain that could sideline him. Henderson has practiced in full both days this week. We’re not concerned that he won’t play, but after fumble problems struck last week and Corey Kiner closed out the Jets in the fourth quarter, we do have slightly lowered expectations for his Thursday night stat line.
  • NE Running Back #9
Even with Rhamondre Stevenson active and TreVeyon Henderson surprisingly playing through his ankle injury, Kiner was called on as the Patriots’ “closer,” with all 11 of his handles coming in the final 16:30 of the contest. The Patriots were winning, but the game was still in doubt. Kiner responded by continually turning his short-yardage opportunities into first downs, while he ended up leading the team in rushing. It wasn’t easy to see that one coming, but it might be difficult for coach Mike Vrabel to un-see it as neither Stevenson nor Henderson impress in their No. 1 or 2 jobs. Kiner is worth an end-of-bench stash in 14-team leagues but is not yet 12-team league relevant.

Surprisingly active, Henderson was unsurprisingly disappointing. Although his lost third quarter fumble was his first of the season, it predictably landed him in the doghouse. He touched the ball just two times thereafter, and the Patriots decided to ride No. 3 running back Corey Kiner is closeout mode. Kiner took 11 carries in the final 16:30 of game time. We know Henderson has big-play ability, but now playing at less than 100 percent in a backfield that is beginning to look like a three-man ordeal, he’s not a particularly appealing RB3/FLEX heading into Thursday’s short-week date with the Bears.

As are A.J. Brown (ankle) and LT Will Campbell (knee). It’s a rare day where all the injury news went right for a team. We can’t imagine Henderson will be in large for a particularly big backup role behind Rhamondre Stevenson, but the fact that a player the Pats didn’t even really “need” for Week 6 is giving it a go suggests he is close to regular health. Henderson is a boom/bust FLEX option. Inactive for the Patriots are CB Carlton Davis, CB Karon Prunty, QB Behren Morton, CB Channing Canada, OT Dametrious Crownover and TE Tanner Arkin.

The same is true of left tackle Will Campbell, who also went down with an ankle injury in Week 5. It’s a remarkable turnaround for Henderson, who was initially expected to miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain. He was limited in practice throughout the week before being listed as questionable on Friday. We expect Henderson to be on a pitch count this week, but he’s still capable of breaking a long run on just a few touches. Henderson is a high-risk FLEX play for Week 6.
  • NE Running Back #32
The Patriots’ No. 2 running back was limited all week after being diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. He told reporters today that he was surprised he could practice this week, and is feeling “pretty good.” If active, he will be a FLEX starter, but Rhamondre Stevenson should lead the backfield in touches.
  • NE Running Back #32
Unlike yesterday, Henderson was spotted at the open portion of practice and appears to be making a real run to play in Week 6. If not for the report that he’d miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain, this would be a pretty clear trend towards Henderson playing. As is, we’ll see what happens on Friday. It sure seems like he’ll hit the questionable line one way or another, but how it looks will be important as far as figuring out his Week 6 status.
  • NE Running Back #32
Henderson wasn’t spotted during the portion of practice open to the media but apparently got on the field at some point later in the session. It’s a truly stunning development for Henderson, given that it was reported this morning that he is expected to miss multiple weeks. We still expect him to sit for Week 6, but even that isn’t guaranteed at this point. Henderson would likely be on a relatively strict pitch count if he plays, but his presence would, at a minimum, be a thorn in the side of Rhamondre Stevenson’s fantasy backers. This is officially an injury report to keep a close eye on throughout the week.
  • NE Running Back #9
Kiner’s seven touches came after TreVeyon Henderson went down with what could be a serious ankle injury in the second quarter. While much of his work came in garbage time, Kiner could work as the Patriots’ No. 2 back behind Rhamondre Stevenson if Henderson is sidelined in Week 6. Kiner is worth a look on waiver wires this week.

Henderson had 38 yards on five touches before suffering the ankle injury on a sideline tackle in the second quarter. He needed help getting to the locker room and did not return to action. Henderson, who has dealt with a string of injuries over the past few months, could miss significant time, leaving Rhamondre Stevenson as the Patriots’ unquestioned workhorse back for now.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Terrance Ferguson (ankle) “will take some time” to come off injured reserve.

Ferguson is eligible to come off injured reserve next week, but Schefter reports that a source told him Ferguson’s recovery “will take some time.” The Rams placed Davante Adams on injured reserve this week and are in desperate need of pass-catching help behind Puka Nacua. Ferguson is a rising receiving tight end for the Rams, but has been on injured reserve since suffering an ankle injury in Week 3. Though he is a good IR stash for fantasy purposes, Ferguson is going to take longer than the minimum four weeks to return. Without a good timeline for return, he can be released from fantasy rosters in dire need of more immediate help during bye weeks.

Patriots CB Carlton Davis (neck) was limited in Tuesday’s practice.

It was an upgrade from an estimated Monday DNP. Davis has missed Week 2, Week 3, Week 5 and Week 6 to the neck listing so far. Perhaps he’ll try to give it a go on Thursday night, but we’d be surprised if he did better than a questionable tag on Wednesday.

A.J. Brown (ankle) was limited in Tuesday’s practice.

Brown spoke with the media today and there’s no reason to believe he’ll actually miss this game, but he was regarded as “limited” in both sessions this week and it’s fair to wonder if he’s 100 percent just yet after his drop-filled, rough Week 6. He’s best-treated as a WR2 this week — you’re still probably starting him regardless of what the ranking is.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring) and Ben Brown (knee) are unlikely to play on Thursday night.

Matt Pryor and Walter Rouse stepped in for the two guards towards the end of last week’s offensive line apocalypse and would likely be in line to start in Week 7. Neither Vera-Tucker nor Brown practiced on Monday or Tuesday.

Jonah Jackson (hip/quad) was limited in Tuesday’s practice.

Jackson left Sunday’s game with the injury, playing 64.9 percent of the snaps with Luke Newman spelling him. This is a good sign for his availability for Week 7 after Jackson did not practice on Monday, but he’s likely trending towards a questionable tag without a full listing on Wednesday.

Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) did not practice on Tuesday.

He hasn’t practiced yet this week and appears very unlikely to go on Thursday night. It would seem to be trending towards another week with Roschon Johnson as the backup runner for the Bears.

Jordan Schultz reports teams seeking wideout help believe Hollywood Brown could be traded in the coming weeks.

Brown had two rushes for 12 yards against the Titans in Week 2 (not receptions) and has been inactive in every other week of the season. So, yeah, we guess he could be had. As could any of the several veteran receivers on losing teams who actually have caught a pass this year.

Eagles signed RB Eljiah Mitchell to their practice squad.

This time, they mean it. Mitchell has a decent chance to be elevated for Week 7 based on what we know today, which is that the Eagles waived Ian Wheeler from the practice squad and have only Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce on the active roster. This appears to be quite a fluid situation.

    Eagles waived RB Jaydon Blue.

They tacked on a waived/injured listing for Carson Steele, leaving the backfield with just Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce on the active roster. Blue did not officially get into a game with the Eagles after signing at the end of August. He’ll look to catch on elsewhere.
