Caleb Williams (hamstring) is questionable to play in Week 6 against the Falcons.

The Bears are smartly taking a conservative approach with their franchise quarterback. Williams had a limited practice session last week and practiced fully this week. Bears coach Ben Johnson told reporters that the team should have more clarity by the end of the day on whether Williams has passed his return-to-play plan’s final stress tests. Stay tuned.

Williams marched the Bears down the field for a 17-play opening possession touchdown, snapping a 26-game streak in which the Seahawks kept opponents out of the end zone on first possessions in the process. The two teams traded defensive stops for much of the remainder of the first half before the Bears opened the flood gates after the break, vaulting to a 6-2 record and now just half a game behind the Vikings for the lead in the NFC North. Williams’ ball placement was impeccable in this one, the most notable of which came just after the half on three absolute dimes to Rome Odunze for chunk gains. Two surging teams meet in Week 9 when the Bears host the pass-funnel Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, where Williams will remain a back end QB1.

The enigmatic signal caller also took three sacks, the last of which almost placed the Bears in position to hand the keys to victory to the Patriots. Ben Johnson called a pass play on third-and-five with under two minutes to play in Patriots territory, placing another nod of support toward his franchise quarterback. Things turned dire when Williams took a sack that appeared to take the Bears out of field goal range in a six-point game, with veteran kicker Cairo Santos hitting a career-long 58-yard field goal to dispel the worries. That sequence of two plays displayed Johnson’s unrelenting trust in his players considering the 58-yard field goal was not only the longest of Santos’ 12-year career, but the third longest field goal in Soldier Field history. Either way, Williams and the Bears escaped with the victory and move to 5-2, now 1.5-games behind the Vikings for the division lead in the most competitive division in football. The Bears get a mini-bye ahead of a Week 8 meeting with the Seahawks on Monday Night Football, where Williams will remain a back-end QB1 in fantasy.

Williams was all the way back in this one, returning to action after three weeks on the sideline recovering from a hamstring injury. His only real miss of the day came on a ten yard throw to Colston Loveland that should have been an easy touchdown. Williams tormented the pass-funnel Atlanta defense with middle-of-the-field throws, along with typical out-of-structure passes to the sideline. It was an impressive outing against a Falcons defense giving up the league’s fifth lowest drop back success rate. Williams should remain in lineups in Week 7 against the Patriots.

Williams will make his return to the starting lineup after being sidelined for a few weeks with a hamstring injury while the Bears declared RB Kyle Monangai, CB Tyrique Stevenson, LB T.J. Edwards, LB Keyshaun Elliott, OL Jordan McFadden, DL Jayden Loving, and QB Case Keenum inactive against Atlanta. Monongai’s absence should translate into another big workload for D’Andre Swift, facing a tough Falcons rush defense. Meanwhile, Tyson Bagent will serve as Williams’ backup.

This was expected to be the case but is now confirmed by sources close to the team. Williams returns after missing the previous three games as the Bears look to claw their way back into contention in a crowded NFC North division. Consider it a sizable boost for all Chicago pass catchers.

Normally, social media posts don’t count for much. However, earlier today, Bears coach Ben Johnson said that the Bears should have more clarity on Williams’ status by the end of the day, after the medical team put Williams through “the final stress tests” in his return-to-play program. We are inferring that Williams’ social media post suggests he passed the final medical testing, though we have not officially received word that this is indeed the case. For now, we tentatively expect Williams to play on Sunday. He can be treated as a mid-to-low QB1.

The Bears’ QB1 is seemingly on track to make his return this week, when his team takes on the Falcons. When speaking to reporters after practice, though, Williams said he does not know if he is going to play yet, adding that he still has a number of tests and protocols to go through before he’s cleared. If active, Williams could end up running a little less frequently than he did early in the year, perhaps playing cautiously in his first game back. Regardless, Williams is a low-end QB1 if he is indeed active.

Technically, Williams was estimated as a full participant ahead of the Bears’ Week 6 game against the Falcons. We’ll see if Williams, who has missed the past three games, practices in full on Thursday. Either way he’s likely to be under center against the pass-funnel Atlanta defense in Week 6. He should be in all lineups if he’s active.

Head coach Ben Johnson said on Sunday that Williams would be “close” to suiting up for Week 6, and he reportedly had a good workout before Week 5’s game against the Packers. Williams has missed the last three games with the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2, but the Bears have managed to go 2-1 over that span. Williams logged one limited practice last week, after being a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday. If he can get on the practice field multiple days this week, it would be a good sign for his availability for next week’s game against the Falcons.

Why the Bears went through the dog and pony show of labeling Williams as “questionable” when everybody knew he would not be playing, nobody knows. Either way, Williams appears to have a strong chance of returning for Week 6 against the Falcons. Expect another run-heavy game plan, even without Monangai, in what should be the final game of the Tyson Bagent experience for the time being.

Jake Ferguson (knee) is questionable to return to Week 9 against the Colts.

The term “questionable” is a vast understatement based on the replay, although the veteran tight end did walk off the field under his own power. The replay and initial reaction from Ferguson did not look good. Expect an update from the team following the game. Ferguson caught both targets for 21 yards and a touchdown prior to departing.

J.J. McCarthy (hip, questionable) returned before the end of the third quarter in the Giants’ Week 9 game against the Eagles.

McCarthy, who presumably received some sort of pain-killing injection after twice collapsing in the third quarter, returned for the final play of the frame. He screamed at his offensive linemen to pump them up before doing so. Never a dull moment.

49ers declared WR Mike Evans, WR Deebo Samuel, QB Kurtis Rourke, OT Enrique Cruz, LB Tatum, Bethune, and DL Khalid Kareem inactive for Week 9 against the Raiders.

Evans will miss at least one game with his lingering Achilles injury. Look for the Niners to be careful with their WR1 in the coming weeks. Demarcus Robinson, coming off an injury, will return to the lineup against Vegas and likely operate as the Niners’ top wideout. Robinson will be flex-viable against a porous Vegas secondary.

J.J. McCarthy suffered a hip injury in the Giants’ Week 9 game against the Eagles and is questionable to return.

Jameis Winston, of course, is now in the game. McCarthy took a thunderclap third quarter hit from Eagles LB Zack Baun and struggled to his feet. He attempted to warm back up on the sideline before literally collapsing while trying to throw. He then headed to the blue tent before making his way to the locker room. We suppose he is genuinely questionable, but on the wrong side of the tag. McCarthy had been taking an absolute beating before going down, absorbing five sacks, many of which were of the spine-rattling variety.

Broncos CB Riley Moss suffered a concussion in Denver’s Week 9 game against the Panthers and will not return.

Attempting to help out in run defense, Moss took a second quarter knee to the hit and went down in extremely concerning fashion. He was ruled out after the break. The Broncos’ thinned out pass defense has been struggling since Moss’ departure.

Seahawks declared QB Sam Darnold, WR Rashid Shaheed, T Charles Cross, G Quenton Nelson, LB Uchenna Nwosu, DT Brandon Pili, and DT Leonard Williams inactive for Week 9 against the Cardinals.

Darnold was ruled out earlier in the week while Shaheed misses his second consecutive game with a knee injury. Drew Lock gets the start under center for the second time this season while veteran receiver Cooper Kupp could see a slight uptick in usage with Shaheed sidelined. Injury trouble along the offensive line could lead to a more ball-out-quick offensive game plan as the Seahawks look to keep pace in the NFC West.

Hunter Henry (foot) is active for Week 9 against the Packers.

It was reported earlier in the day that Henry had a “realistic” shot at suiting up this week after he managed to log a limited practice on Friday. Henry will profile as a high-end TE2 with A.J. Brown (ankle/knee) out this week. In addition to Brown being out, the Patriots also declared RB TreVeyon Henderson, CB Charles Woods, OT Dametrious Crownover, and QB Behren Morton inactive for Week 9.

Cardinals declared RB Bam Knight, CB Starling Thomas V, LB Eku Leota, OL Jayden Williams, OL Jon Gaines III, and OL Albert Reese IV inactive for Week 9 against the Seahawks.

Knight’s absence due to a concussion leaves Tyler Allgeier alone atop the running back depth chart with rookie Jeremiyah Love on injured reserve. The matchup is far from ideal against the Seahawks on the road, but Allgeier appears to be in line for a legitimate workhorse role and can be started as a viable RB2. The Cardinals press forward with veteran journeyman Gardner Minshew under center following the trade of Jacoby Brissett this week.

Chargers did not activate David Njoku (fibula) from injured reserve for Week 9 against the Texans.

Njoku entered the contest listed as doubtful, although he practiced in a limited capacity all week. He might be able to return next week, but he does not need to be added in 12-team leagues. The Chargers declared LG Kayode Awosika (fibula), S Kendall Williamson (calf), CB Deane Leonard (concussion), WR Brenen Thompson (quad/hamstring) and WR Theo Wease inactive for Week 9 against the Texans.
