ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots will likely activate WR A.J. Brown (ankle) to play against the Jets in Week 6.

Brown returned to practice this week after going on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain. While nothing is official yet, it’s a great sign that Rapoport is anticipating a return for the 29-year-old wide receiver in Week 6 against the Jets. Brown may not play a full complement of snaps in his first game back, but is still essentially a must-start for fantasy managers.
Vikings: How Mason's return impacts the offense
Jordan Mason returned to a full participant practice Wednesday after his thumb injury, likely returning to gameplay soon. Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter explain why Aaron Jones should be locked into RB2.

Brown practiced in full on Friday. It is his first time doing so since returning from injured reserve last week. This is great news for his Week 7 outlook. The Bears field a beatable pass defense, setting up Brown for a bounce-back performance after last week’s disappointing showing.

Brown spoke with the media today and there’s no reason to believe he’ll actually miss this game, but he was regarded as “limited” in both sessions this week and it’s fair to wonder if he’s 100 percent just yet after his drop-filled, rough Week 6. He’s best-treated as a WR2 this week — you’re still probably starting him regardless of what the ranking is.

Active for the first time since Week 1, Brown had an even more disastrous outing than that inefficient box score would indicate, as he was charged with at least three official drops and could end up with 4-5 when it is all said and done. One was a potential long score where the ball literally went through his hands. It was unbecoming of a highly-paid No. 1 wideout. Brown also looked stiff moving side to side, and might not be particularly close to 100 percent health returning from his high-ankle sprain. We assume things can only get better from here, but they absolutely have to in Thursday evening’s short-week potential shootout with the Bears’ leaky defense.

As are A.J. Brown (ankle) and LT Will Campbell (knee). It’s a rare day where all the injury news went right for a team. We can’t imagine Henderson will be in large for a particularly big backup role behind Rhamondre Stevenson, but the fact that a player the Pats didn’t even really “need” for Week 6 is giving it a go suggests he is close to regular health. Henderson is a boom/bust FLEX option. Inactive for the Patriots are CB Carlton Davis, CB Karon Prunty, QB Behren Morton, CB Channing Canada, OT Dametrious Crownover and TE Tanner Arkin.

Brown was activated from injured reserve this week and will suit up versus the Jets. It was reasonable to expect some sort of snap count in his first game back, but it sounds like Brown will be a full-go after looking great in practice this week. In desperate need of a true WR1 to step up, the Pats should pepper Brown with targets this week. He is back in the fantasy WR2 ranks after the lengthy absence.

Brown makes his return from a four-game absence following a Week 1 injury to his ankle, reintegrating into an offense that has found their stride in recent weeks. After leading the league in turnovers through the first three games, quarterback Drake Maye has accounted for a league-leading eight touchdowns since Week 4. Although Brown could be on a snap count in his first game back, fantasy managers have to be feeling ecstatic to get their second round pick back on the field.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said they’d make the decision on whether to activate him off injured reserve on Saturday, so at least Brown won’t be a game-time decision. Brown can be started with confidence if he’s active, though he’d potentially be in line for a pitch count to the point where he’d be more of a WR2 than a WR1 in his return.

Brown was a limited participant on Wednesday. He is reportedly taking a “one step at a time” approach to his return. We’ll see how his ankle responds to Thursday’s limited practice “with full shoulder pads.” Per Brown, the team is not rushing him back and will keep the long haul in mind when deciding whether to activate him. The Patriots (3-2) are in second in the AFC East.

Brown will return to practice today, likely for a limited session. The team now has 21 days to officially activate him from IR. That could happen later this week, which would mean he’s ready to suit up for Week 6 against the Jets. He would likely be on some sort of pitch count in his first game back, but even a limited AJB would be worthy of a spot in the WR2 ranks.

Brown has been rehabbing from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the season-opener. It was reported on Sunday that Brown was walking without a limp, and last week NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that “the hope is” Brown will play in Week 6 against the Jets. The team has not opened his return window, which they will need to do in order for him to practice this week. Once that happens, the focus will then move to his practice status and whether or not he can log a full practice or two before the weekend. We would expect Brown’s 21-day return window in the next 24 hours if the team really believes there’s a chance he could return this week.

Emeka Egbuka (concussion/foot) did not practice on Thursday.

The Buccaneers’ No. 1 wide receiver is now firmly on the wrong side of questionable. It is a huge bummer, particularly after Egbuka earned 16 targets last week. Chris Godwin and rookie Ted Hurst earned targets most effectively behind him, though they are likely best viewed as FLEX starters at this time.

Alvin Kamara (back) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

He’s played through this listing for a few weeks now, and though he’ll sometimes get dinged up in game, appears no worse for the wear. Kendre Miller feels like the more viable back in a normal game script right now, with Kamara playing more on passing downs.

CJ Donaldson (shoulder) practiced in full on Thursday.

The pass-protecting back looks likely to continue to mix in and limit snaps for the fantasy-valuable members of the backfield in Week 7.

Saquon Barkley (hamstring) resumed practicing on Thursday.

Barkley has been sidelined since straining his hamstring in the Eagles’ Week 4 loss to the division-rival Giants. He is now on track to make his triumphant return against the division-rival Cowboys in Week 7’s Monday Night Football game. The Eagles threw the ball at an 84 percent rate in neutral situations with Tanner McKee at the helm last week. Barkley’s expected return will allow them to run the ball more often, though they will likely remain a pass-first offense. Although Barkley’s rushing workload may decrease, his passing game involvement could get a serious boost, benefiting him in the box score.

Ben Skowronek (calf) will not play in Pittsburgh’s Week 7 game against the Saints.

Ruled out on Thursday before traveling, Skowronek probably has a real chance to get back in Week 8. With Marquez Valdes-Scantling now on the roster, Skowronek has likely lost whatever desperation fantasy value he might have had either way.

T.J. Watt (calf) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

It’s a new injury today that kept Watt to a limited session. We’re not overly concerned about it, and the fact that the Steelers are traveling overseas will likely keep practices lighter anyway. We expect the 32-year-old to suit up again on Sunday morning.

Rico Dowdle (knee) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

It’s a new injury that popped up on Wednesday, but with two limited sessions we’re not overly concerned about Dowdle missing Sunday morning’s Civil Unrest Bowl in Paris. He’ll be in the RB3/FLEX discussion.

SNY TV’s Connor Hughes believes the Giants will likely try to trade for a running back, and Cam Skattebo is unlikely to return to his prior role.

Hughes makes clear that he thinks Skattebo’s time as the clear-cut lead back is over, recapping coach John Harbaugh’s offseason attempts to acquire a bellcow, while noting that Skattebo is currently in the doghouse. Hughes believes Skattebo is a nice complementary player who can function as a physical change-of-pace option. The biggest issue the Giants face in replacing him is cost. He thinks a player like Jonathan Taylor will cost a Day 2 pick, at least, and he is not sure Taylor is worth that, given the Giants’ long-term plans for the 2027 draft capital they’ve accrued via various personnel moves. Trading away Kayvon Thibodeaux is an option, but doing so is challenging with Brian Burns (knee) out for the year.

Lamar Jackson (ankle) practiced on Thursday.

After a weird limited session on Wednesday where he wasn’t out in front of the media, Jackson practiced today in full view of reporters, who noted that he was not favoring his ankle at all. Jackson’s injury has always felt tenuous, but even if Wednesday was sort of an aberration, he has to at least be considered to be moving towards playing. Friday’s status will tell the rest of the story, we expect him to at least be questionable after practicing the first two days of the week.

Breece Hall (quad) returned to practice on Thursday.

Reporters on the scene said that Hall headed to the rehab area after reporters left the scene, so he’ll probably be given a limited session. Still, he moved well and likely at least has a chance to suit up for Week 7 after this update. Friday’s practice will be telling. It would be surprising if Hall doesn’t at least hit the questionable line as long as he practices on Friday.
