Seahawks spoil Kenneth Walker’s return to Seattle

Kenneth Walker rushed 14 times for 36 yards in the Chiefs’ Week 7 loss to the Seahawks, adding 21 yards on four receptions.

Walker was held to below 4.9 yards per carry for only the second time this season while also failing to find the end zone for the second time through six games, with his longest rush going for a meager seven yards. Seattle had all the answers on the defensive side of the ball as they held the Chiefs to just 213 yards of total offense. One of fantasy’s breakout stars in the early going of the 2026 season will face another difficult matchup on the road against the Broncos in Week 8, where he remains an elite RB1.

Emmett Johnson stole the show today with 128 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. Johnson blew by the Broncos’ defense for a 73-yard touchdown, which alone would have been enough for a breakout performance. The good news for Walker drafters is that Johnson only carried the ball once. Walker also matched him in targets at five apiece. Walker is now coming off his two worst rushing performances of the year in tandem with the Chiefs’ first two losses. It’s safe to assume the two are related. With a down-bad Jets defense on deck, we fully expected Walker to get back on track as a top-end RB1 in Week 9.

The Chiefs once again leaned hard on the rushing attack, running the ball 24 times while attempting 30 passes on the day. Walker breezed through a lifeless LA defense from start to finish. On many of his carries Walker was not touched until he was five or six yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Walker, who accounted for 19 of the team’s 24 rushing attempts, is perhaps the most important player in fantasy football through Week 6. He’ll be an RB1 in Week 7 against his former mates in Seattle.

Walker found the end zone twice in 19 seconds in this one. After scoring on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter, Walker then broke free for a 22-yard run on his next play after the Chiefs recovered a fumbled kickoff by the Raiders. Walker’s longest run of the game was an explosive burst down the right sideline that saw him pick up 76 yards, but he was tackled at the Raiders eight-yard line and lost out on a scoring opportunity two plays later when Tyquan Thornton came down in the end zone with an eight-yard reception. Walker has now scored multiple touchdowns in three of four games this season and has 621 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns. He’s been more than fantasy managers could have hoped for through the first four weeks, but they will have to manage without him next week as the Chiefs enter their bye week. He’ll be firmly in the RB1 mix in Week 6, however, when the Chiefs play host to the winless Chargers.

The two-touchdown outing was Walker’s second in three games as a Chief after he had only one such effort for the Seahawks last season. His 20 touches were a rather remarkable total seeing as the Chiefs were limited to 49 plays with the Dolphins attempting to play keep away. He was not efficient, but Patrick Mahomes was. That’s the new reality for defenses facing the Chiefs, as this is no longer a stop Mahomes at all costs team. You now have to pick your poison, which is going to lead to many more blow-up efforts for KWIII. Perhaps that will include Week 4 in Vegas against the Raiders.

Johnson has turned 14 touches into 103 scrimmage yards thus far. Evidently pleased with his fifth-round rookie, Reid wants to keep “allowing Emmett to grow,” in turn taking “a little bit of load off” starting RB Kenneth Walker. Reid notes that Walker wants the ball on every play and is not asking for a lighter workload, but Reid is seeking “a nice balance with those two in there,” which “keeps them even more fresh as the season goes on.” Walker, of course, remains an elite RB1. Johnson, however, should be rostered in all 12-team leagues as a high-upside bench stash that could return standalone value before long.

Walker has now notched 178 combined yards or more in each of his new team’s first two games to start the season. In addition to the gaudy yardage numbers, Walker saw 10 targets on 47 Patrick Mahomes pass attempts in the overtime victory, while accounting for all but four running back opportunities. His backfield opportunity share, touchdown equity, and pass game involvement make Walker a top-tier fantasy asset for those that invested a second-round pick in his services this offseason. The only micro-blemish on his record against the Colts was a sequence of carries at the end of the second quarter in which he was stuffed from the one-yard line on three straight plays, with the team eventually scoring on fourth down via a touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy. Walker remains a top-tier RB1 ahead of a road date with the much more forgiving Dolphins in Week 3.

Walker single-handedly out-gained the entire Denver offense on the evening as he was the clear point of emphasis in Patrick Mahomes’ first game back after tearing his ACL in 2025. He was fed seven carries on the team’s first nine offensive plays run from scrimmage, a drive that would result in a 15-yard Mahomes rushing touchdown on the team’s first possession. The highlight of the game for the explosive back was a 60-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one, in which he bounced the football outside and dusted the secondary on his way to the end zone. He would add a receiving score on a “Kansas City Special” later in the game, taking a Mahomes shuttle pass to the end zone from two yards out to further bolster his counting stats. What’s more, walker played all but five offensive snaps in the first half with the game still within reason, highlighting a massive ceiling for the remainder of the season. Walker is a locked-in RB1 ahead of a Week 2 matchup against the Colts.

What is clear in the wake of the Chiefs waiving Emari Demercado is that they don’t really have another player that qualifies as a passing-down back besides Walker without squinting. The other backs they kept are Emmett Johnson, a Day 3 rookie, and Brashard Smith, a gadget player without enough size to really block. Perhaps the Chiefs will address this in street free agency ahead of the season, but as things stand, it certainly seems like Walker will be involved on all three downs.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes believe last season’s run game failed to make defenses respect their play-action run fakes. With Walker now on board, the Chiefs believe both the run game and play-action game will improve. The staff has catered to Walker by installing more plays from under center, which Walker prefers to shotgun. “One way Walker can help transform the offense,” per Taylor, “is by becoming a true dual-threat player.” Reid believes Walker’s “receiving skills and ability to make defenders miss” will allow Reid to incorporate “one of his favorite passing concepts: the variety of plays where a play-action fake to the running back is executed before a short screen pass is thrown back to the same running back.” Walker should be expected to handle a high-end, dual-threat workload. He is a locked-in RB1 with immense upside.

Walker was held out of practice recently because of the issue, but this seems to be as minor as it gets. It’s safe to assume Walker will be back at practice soon, likely without any limitations. Walker has been going at the top of the second round of fantasy drafts. This little injury scare shouldn’t move that ADP in the slightest. He remains a strong RB1 bet this year.

Chargers signed CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, formerly of the Titans.

Armour-Davis saw his 2025 season come to an end in Week 17 when he suffered a torn Achilles. The 27-year-old corner has spent the last 11 months rehabbing his injury and is now set to make his return for the winless Chargers. To the surprise of nobody, Armour-Davis is yet another player with ties to a Harbaugh brother, as he began his career playing under John Harbaugh with the Ravens from 2022 to 2024. Now, he’ll have a chance to play under Jim Harbaugh and could see playing time in the coming weeks once he gets up to speed. Armour-Davis allowed 24 receptions for 346 yards and two touchdowns on 31 targets last season while with the Titans, earning a PFF coverage grade up 49.6.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Breece Hall (quad) is “now good to go and should play next week” against the Chiefs.

It was reported on Sunday that Hall was “hoping for next week,” which is now here, as the Jets prepare to take on the Chiefs in Kansas City. After logging a week of limited practices and entering last weekend as questionable, Hall was still scratched from Week 8’s game against the Raiders, leading some to believe he had suffered a setback in his recovery. Hopefully that was more of a case of the Jets exercising caution with their RB1, especially with Braelon Allen playing well in his absence. Hall’s status will still be one to monitor, but this is a very optimistic report on him to start the week.

Jaguars DT DaVon Hamilton suffered a torn quad in Week 8’s win over the Colts.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the injury. This is expected to be a season-ender for Hamilton, who has totaled 16 tackles and a half sack this season. Hamilton has earned a 74.0 PFF defensive grade this season and is a key contributor top-five run defense.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said “we’re in the business of keeping good players” when asked if the team would consider trading Breece Hall before the deadline.

The Jets are 2-6 and Braelon Allen has put together a solid few weeks in Hall’s absence. As a result, there has been some speculation as to whether or not the Jets would consider moving Hall, who has missed the last five games with a quad injury. In addition to saying the Jets are “in the business of keeping good players,” Glenn also was sure to remind the media that Hall is “one of our better players,” suggesting there are no plans to move the 25-year-old back at this year’s deadline. If he’s able to play next week against the Chiefs, Hall would fall somewhere in the RB2 ranks in his return.

Saquon Barkley said the Eagles informed him that they don’t intend to trade him ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

Speaking with the media early Monday morning, Barkley said he was informed that the team would not be trading him despite falling to 2-6 on the season after Sunday night’s loss to Washington. Barkley rushed 13 times for 30 yards and a touchdown in the loss while catching one pass for another 24 yards. The soon-to-be 30-year-old back could have decent trade value for the Eagles in what is shaping up to be a lost season, but it sounds like he’s in the team’s future plans heading into 2027. Barkley is playing through injuries and has just 56 carries for 274 yards and two touchdowns this season, and has caught seven passes for another 41 yards. Assuming he can get in another week of practice this week, he’ll be a fringe RB1/RB2 in Week 9 against the Giants.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyler Huntley is going to miss “extended time” after suffering a turf toe injury in Week 8’s loss to the Bills.

Even in the best-case scenario, Huntley felt like a long shot to play in Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars, but it sounds like this is going to be a multi-week absence. An MRI will confirm the severity of his injury in the days ahead, but for now, rookie UDFA Joe Fagnano is expected to draw the start against the Jags for the 4-4 Ravens. Lamar Jackson, who will be placed on IR in the coming days, will undergo surgery to repair the thumb he dislocated in Sunday’s game, meaning the Ravens will bring in a veteran QB through a trade or free agency in the near future. It should go without saying, but all of the Ravens’ key fantasy assets will receive a noticeable downgrade with Jackson and Huntley both out.

YaYa Diaby is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL after the Buccaneers’ Week 8 win over the Falcons.

Diaby will undergo an MRI to confirm the severity of the injury, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team his hopeful that this injury will “not cause him to miss extended time.” Diaby has 16 tackles, three sacks, and one interception this season, with all three of his sacks coming in the Bucs’ Week 7 win over the Panthers. Even if he doesn’t miss too much time, it’s possible he’ll be sidelined for at least Week 9’s game against the Bears on Sunday Night Football.

Chig Okonkwo caught 2-of-4 targets for 32 yards in the Commanders’ Week 8 win over the Eagles.

Okonkwo flashed his athletic ability with a full-stretch reception in the second half but it was not enough to overshadow a first quarter fumble. The spry veteran has now been held to four receptions or fewer in four of five appearances in the low volume Washington pass offense, unable to return consistent fantasy value through the absence of Terry McLaurin. He is best left on fantasy benches in a Week 9 matchup against the Rams.

Stefon Diggs caught 3-of-6 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ Week 8 win over the Eagles.

Offensive coordinator David Blough ha made good on his promise not to increase the route participation or snap rate of the veteran receiver in the absence of Terry McLaurin, effectively keeping Diggs relegated to a situational role primarily from the slot. That has left Treylon Burks and rookie Antonio Williams to lead the team in routes the previous two weeks while limiting the true ceiling of Diggs in the process. Consider Diggs a touchdown-dependent FLEX option in a difficult matchup against the Rams in Week 9.

Antonio Williams caught 5-of-7 targets for 54 yards in the Commanders’ Week 8 win over the Eagles.

Williams mostly operated in a short area role but added a 30-yard grab up the seam in the fourth quarter to pad his counting stats for fantasy managers hoping on a second-half rookie breakout. While the fantasy returns have yet to pop, managers can continue to hold the electric rookie in the hopes his role grows in the coming weeks. That said, he is likely best left on fantasy benches until his route structure improves.
