Free agent CB E.J. Gaines worked out for the Texans on Tuesday.
The Texans are leaving no stone left unturned as they try to upgrade their shaky secondary. Frequently battling health issues, Gaines was cut by the Bills with an injury settlement (groin) in August. He made just six appearances, including two starts, for the Browns last season before landing on injured reserve with a concussion. When healthy, Gaines has often been an asset.

Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson (calf) did not practice on Thursday.
Ferguson’s absence is discouraging. It is possible that yesterday’s limited session was because Ferguson suffered the injury in practice. Hopefully, today is just a planned rest day and he can resume practicing tomorrow. The Cowboys face the Vikings’ blitz-based pass defense in Week 15. Having a big-bodied target in the short-to-intermediate field depths would help out QB Dak Prescott.
Pickett starting could benefit Bowers, Raiders
Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter preview what Kenny Pickett starting at quarterback for the Raiders means for their passing game, debating if he is a better option than Geno Smith, who has struggled immensely in 2025.
  • LA Wide Receiver #17
Rams WR Davante Adams (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.
Last week, the hamstring injury caused Adams to miss practice on Wednesday before logging a limited session on Thursday and practicing fully on Friday. He played on game day but caught just 4-of-6 targets for 29 yards. The Rams face the Lions in what should be a very high-scoring game in Week 15. The Rams are likely just managing Adams’ reps in the lead-up to the big game, though it would be great to see Adams practice on Friday.
  • GB Wide Receiver #0
Packers WR Matthew Golden (wrist) was limited on Thursday.
Golden does not need to be rostered in re-draft formats. His downfield skillset overlaps with WR Christian Watson, and the veteran wide receiver is playing extremely well. Golden will likely handle a small snap share against the Broncos on Sunday.
  • GB Wide Receiver #11
Packers WR Jayden Reed (shoulder) was limited on Thursday.
Reed is on track to play in a tough matchup against the Broncos this week. The Packers’ slot receiver ran a route on 60.0% of the pass plays last week, which was encouraging. Reed is on the FLEX radar once again, though his target volume is likely capped. Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) was also limited.
  • SF Running Back #23
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (illness) was limited on Thursday.
Players rarely miss games due to illness. We fully expect McCaffrey to play in Week 15 against the Titans. If the 49ers were to jump out to a healthy lead, it is possible the coaching staff gives RB Brian Robinson a little extra work in the fourth quarter, but McCaffrey should be viewed as an elite RB1, regardless.
  • ARI Running Back #31
Cardinals RB Emari Demercado (ankle) was limited on Thursday.
Demercado could need another week to rehab his high-ankle sprain, but Friday’s report will clarify things. Cardinals RB Bam Knight has out-touched RB Michael Carter in each of the last three games, totaling 38 touches to Carter’s 23. Should Demercado return this week, he could reduce both players’ workloads. With all three on the field in Weeks 10-11, Knight totaled 20 touches while Demercado handled 14 and Carter took 10. Stay tuned.
  • FA Tight End #89
    Broncos waived TE Marcedes Lewis.
In four games with the Broncos, the 41-year-old tight end chipped in as a blocker, but earned zero targets this season. He could find a spot on a practice squad after this.
  • FA Running Back #30
    Seahawks waived RB Cam Akers.
Akers rushed five times for five yards and caught 0-of-1 targets in his time with the Seahawks. Griffin recorded zero pass breakups and zero interceptions on 56 coverage snaps. Both players could find spots on practice squads.
  • IND Quarterback #17
ESPN’s Stephen Holder believes the Colts are “prepping” QB Philip Rivers to start in Week 15 against the Seahawks.
Per Holder, “it isn’t difficult to tell who a team is prepping to start. That player is Rivers.” Whether this helps the pass-catching corps remains to be seen. Rivers has not played football since 2020. One hard hit from a Seahawks pass rusher could send the 44-year-old back to the sofa. Backup QB Riley Leonard suffered a PCL sprain in his knee last week, though he is currently practicing in full. Stay tuned.
  • DAL Wide Receiver #88
Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (concussion) practiced fully on Thursday.
As long as Lamb remains symptom-free, he should be good to go for the Cowboys’ Week 15 game against the Vikings. The Cowboys last played on Thursday night, in Week 14, allowing Lamb extra time to rest before practicing this week. It seemingly paid off. He can be started as a WR1.
