Beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 379 Mark Anderson hung up a career-tying-low 6-under-par 32-32=64 in the third round of the Sony Open for a 54-hole total of 6-under 204, up 38 spots to solo 5th, two adrift of clubhouse leader Kevin Kisner, who also fired a week-low 64, and three short of the leader on the course Brendan Steele.
This is the 33-year-old’s fourth Sony, first since a missed cut in 2014, and second cash, joining a T54/2013, where he also carded a career-low 64 (R2). Making his 73rd career start, this is his first time in the top-10 after 54 holes, and is eyeing his third top-10, first since T10 at the 2017 Puerto Rico Open. With preferred lies in effect, the South Carolina alum striped 13 (of 14) fairways and pelted 15 greens in regulation, gaining 4.108 strokes approaching and 4.712 tee-to-green. He squared a lone bogey-5 at hole 6, camouflaged by seven circles at 11, 16, 17, 1, 3, 7 and 9, three from between 10 and 17 feet, posting 1.667 putts per GIR and 0.869 SG: Putting. The Annapolis, Maryland, native, who arrived off a T43 at the RSM seven weeks ago, opened with 72-68.
