Playing out of the eighth-to-last threesome, World No. 182 Bud Cauley (LQ-NT-SC) twirled a 7-under-par 33-32=65 in the final round of The American Express to finish up on 20-under 268, up 16 places to a season-best T4, six in arrears of overnight co-leader and champion Andrew Landry, who shot 67.
This was the 29-year-old’s eighth AmEx, sixth cash and fourth top 25. It’s his second top 10, joining a career-tying-best T3 in 2017, and records his first top-5 finish since T5 at the 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson 59 starts ago. For the week, the Alabama product recorded rounds of 68-64-71-65, and totaled one eagle and 22 birdies versus four bogeys. In R4, he found nine (of 14) fairways and 13 greens in regulation, gaining 0.936 strokes of-the-tee and 3.573 on approach. The Floridian squared a lone bogey-5 at hole 9, smothered by nine birdies at 2, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 16 and 17. He posted 1.385 putts per GIR and 0.918 SG: Putting, buoyed by three par-savers from between five and 12 feet.
