World No. 78 Matt Jones arrives at PGA National to defend his Honda Classic title off his fourth top-20 finish of the season last week at the Genesis Invitational.
The Australian finished T-15 at Riviera, adding to his solo third at the Sentry TOC, T-11 at the QBE Shootout and T-18 at the Zozo Championship. “It’s been good all year,” Jones told media on Tuesday. “I haven’t putted the best, and that would show on my stats, but if I can figure that out, I’m looking forward to this week.” The 41-year-old, a two-time Tour winner, added his assessment of PGA National, saying, “It’s always a test and a battle out here, so it’s more of a course where you just try and battle along and just make pars, make a couple of birdies here and there, and limit your mistakes. That’s what I did last year, and hopefully I’ll do this year.” Jones has made 11 starts in the new season, making the cut in six events. In eight previous starts in the Honda, he’s made six cuts with two top 10s.
