Alexander

Alexander had played only 52 snaps on defense. He’s unlikely to be a candidate for return.

The Bills will be his third team in as many seasons. Alexander has made 23 starts at safety in his career but is most known for his special teams contributions. That should be the case again in Buffalo.

Alexander was a fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2014 and was a starter there under Jeff Fisher. He’s been relegated to special teams ever since then and spent last year in Seattle. Alexander would be a nice add for kick coverage units.

More of an in-the-box safety than center fielder, Alexander (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) played linebacker as a sophomore, and does his best work close to the line. He does, however, offer plus athleticism with a 38-inch vertical and 4.54 forty. He’ll begin his Rams career on special teams.

He’s sitting out OTAs. The 110th overall pick in May’s draft, Alexander will try to earn a roster spot by standing out on special teams this August.

Alexander (6-foot-1 1/4, 220) only made honorable mention All-Mountain West as a senior despite 90 tackles -- 9.0 for a loss -- and two forced fumbles. Much more a box safety than center fielder, Alexander played linebacker as a sophomore and does his best work close to the line. He does offer plus athleticism with a 38-inch vertical and 4.54 forty. Alexander’s stock was affected by a junior-year aggravated assault charge, which cost him the entire 2012 season. He’s likely ticketed for special teams in the pros.

A fourth-round pick in 2014, Alexander struggled in five starts last season. Cody Davis and Christian Bryant are the other in-house options, and the Rams could look to the draft for help. T.J McDonald is locked in at strong safety.

Seattle also added CB Akeem King. Alexander spent most of last year out of the league after getting waived in Week 5. He adds depth to a secondary that could be without Kam Chancellor. Alexander will face competition from 2017 mid-rounders Delano Hill and Tedric Thompson for a roster spot.

Alexander started each of the Rams’ first four games, but he struggled mightily and was benched for Week 5. Alexander goes to make room for WR Mike Thomas.
