    Rangers signed RHP Ariel Hernandez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
    Hernandez spent the entire 2018 season in the minors, posting a rough 54/40 K/BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings between the Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the Reds, Dodgers, and Brewers. The 26-year-old right-hander will function as organizational bullpen depth for Texas.

    He’ll take the 40-man roster spot left vacant by John Lamb’s recent DFA. Hernandez, a 24-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, posted a 2.18 ERA, 1.097 WHIP, and 74/39 K/BB ratio in 62 innings of relief this summer between Low-A and High-A ball. He could challenge for a bullpen spot in Cincinnati sometime next year.

    The club needed relief help after Cody Reed lasted just two innings in his start Saturday. Hernandez earned a promotion after allowing just one run while striking out 14 over his first eight relief innings for Pensacola. He’ll be making his major league debut.
