The Nationals will purchase the contract of Carlos Maldonado from Triple-A Syracuse before Tuesday’s game.
He’ll take the place of the injured Sandy Leon (ankle) on the active roster. Maldonado, 33, is hitting .211/.273/.380 with two homers and a .653 OPS over his first 21 games with the Chiefs this year. He’ll back up Jesus Flores for now, but we suspect the Nationals will be in the market for catching help in the days ahead.
