Phillies LHP prospect Elniery Garcia fired eight scoreless frames Wednesday in a win for High-A Clearwater.
Garcia lost his bid for a no-hitter on a leadoff single in the eighth inning. He finished the evening with six strikeouts and two walks. The left-hander took his lumps in Low-A Lakewood last year but he’s come to play this season with an elite 2.23 ERA over 13 appearances. He’s tied for fourth in the Florida State League with eight wins and also owns the league’s sixth-lowest WHIP at 1.07.

Phillies purchased the contract of LHP Elniery Garcia from High-A Clearwater.
Garcia, who will turn 22 next month, put up a 2.68 ERA and 91/36 K/BB ratio over 117 2/3 frames at Clearwater this season. The southpaw is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

MLB suspended LHP Elniery Garcia 80 games for testing positive for a PED.
Garcia, who was added to the Phillies’ 40-man roster in November, tested positive for Boldenone. The 22-year-old went 12-4 with a 2.68 ERA for Single-A Clearwater last year, and while he doesn’t rate among the team’s top-10 prospects, he is someone they like, possibly as a future reliever.

Cardinals acquired LHP Elniery Garcia from the Phillies for international bonus pool money.
Garcia has an ugly 6.38 ERA, 1.91 WHIP, and 29/21 K/BB ratio in 42 1/3 innings (nine starts, one relief appearance) this season at Double-A Reading, but the 23-year-old left-hander put up promising numbers in the lower minors. He was suspended 80 games last April after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Garcia will presumably report to Double-A Springfield.

Phillies sent LHP Elniery Garcia outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
    He’s now off the 40-man roster. Garcia posted a 1.75 ERA but a 10/17 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 Double-A frames in 2017 after serving a PED suspension.
