Freeman will provide needed depth for the beat up Cincinnati bullpen over the next few days. He’s likely to head back to Louisville when Tony Cingrani is promoted to fill Johnny Cueto’s (lat) vacant rotation spot. Freeman, 26, owns a 3.60 career ERA in the minor leagues.

The move clears a spot for Thursday’s starter, Tony Cingrani, on the active roster. Freeman was just called up this week and allowed two runs in one inning during his lone appearance with the big club on Wednesday.

Freeman was designated for assignment by the Reds last month but is now back with the organization. The 26-year-old posted a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8/2 K/BB ratio over seven innings with Triple-A Louisville this season.
