Bryce Harper on Marvin Hudson ejection: “I don’t think 40,000 people came to watch him ump”

Bryce Harper was very upset about his third-inning ejection from Wednesday night’s game against the Yankees, and rightly so. Harper went off in the clubhouse afterward, and Chase Hughes of CSNWashington.com got the money quote ...

“I don’t think 40,000 people came to watch him ump tonight. Plain and simple,” Harper said. “I really don’t think they did. Especially when we’re playing the Yankees. The Yankees are a good team, we’re a good team and we’re rolling. I don’t want to get tossed. There’s no reason for me to get tossed in that situation. I don’t think I did anything bad to get tossed. Maybe he just had a bad morning or he didn’t get his coffee.”

Harper was thrown out for leaving the batter’s box, but he only left the batter’s box after home plate umpire Marvin Hudson took his mask off and stepped toward the Nationals’ dugout to begin chirping with manager Matt Williams ...

Williams also did some venting after the game, an eventual 3-2 victory for Washington. Again via Hughes: “Doggone it, he’s our best player and arguably the best player on the planet right now,” said Williams. “And we need him in the game. And I don’t feel as if there was any need to throw him out.”
