Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports that Japanese infielder Takashi Toritani -- a Scott Boras client -- is currently “mulling offers” from the Blue Jays and Padres. Toritani is an unrestricted free agent, so it won’t require a posting fee to sign him.
The 33-year-old Toritani had another strong showing in 2014 for the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball, hitting .313/.406/.415 with eight home runs and 10 stolen bases in 144 games. He’s being offered the chance to play shortstop in San Diego. The Jays wants him for second base, which he never played in Japan. Toritani is not expected to make a decision about his future until sometime in January. He could ultimately re-sign with Hanshin.
